@nutnfancy-------------- got a question? on the mods to the dura-coated MN( or mosin#1, as you call it) have you used , or thought of using a decent-cost high powered scope in the same front reciever alignment to see how far you can really take a shot down range from the mosin?
dont use the word retreat if your getting over run.. you will just die with bullets in your back..
instead.. hunker down and fight til you win or til they find you in your fighting hole with your weapon. and your dead.. we all gotta die sometime.. might as well die with corage
truthfully if your out numbered and u need to get to a better tactical fighting position you can "BREAK CONTACT"! and relocate to a better fighting position that offers you a tactical advantage. but NEVER RETREAT!
it'd like an episode of "COMBAT" with vic morrow the actor. all you guys need is background noise edited in and some cool music.. and some yelling and hollering and a few more guys to fill out your fire team and have them also engage steel plate bad guys..and this video would be a pulse racing adventure flick..
yo did you duracoat the original wood stock? or did u form a synthetic replica and swap it out? it's cool either way.. it looks really good and protected.
imagine yourself as a russian soldier/sniper in stalingrad during world war two and you are dealing with some of the same issues and probles that your experiencing here in this "ARCTIC-TRAINING" video as a happy civilian well fed American with lil or no stress and no one shooting at you. it just makes me respect those russian sniper that much more when i see the weather challenges and also run and gun in an urban combat environment with artillery rounds crashing all over and machine gun bullets
yo man, are you a tactical civilian? or are you a former soldier? or possibly law-enforcement? your videos are cool.. but i'm just curious as to your ocupation.. you do alot of tactical stuff.. scenarios etc.. just wondering if your affiliated with the military or law enforcement in some way
WHAT SCOPE DO YOU HAVE MOUNTED, AND ALSO WHAT AMMO ARE YOU FIRING, IS IT AFTER MARKET? IS IT THE CORROSIVE AMMO?, I KNOW YOU CAN REMOVE THE REAR SITE TO REVEAL A DOVETAIL WHAT MOUNTING OPTION DO YOU RECOMEND FOR A RED DOT?
And are you kidding me with "Practical cold weather testing"? It's a fucking nugget. You can fire it from inside a block of ice, to inside a volcano and everywhere in between.
everyone complains about modernizing the mosin nagant, but the guys who designed it would be doing just that if they had the materials and equipment that we do
I've got a 91/30 with a hex receiver just like that one. Absolutely love the gun, it's a total work horse. The 7.62x54mm is one of my favorite rounds. Great video nutn
Love the video guys that looks awesome did you remove the rear site to get the optics on?
and i love how you painted the stock / love the hex receiver that changed in the 1930 to the round receiver i hope that is right i love my mosin they are a fun rifle a lot of history great vid guys
@admmaddog1 If you look closely, you can see that the red dot is mounted in the same location as the stock rear sight. He's also got a review of a scope mount that uses the same mounting position but retains the rear sight as a backup (albeit with severely restricted field of view).
is he just working threw the recoil or did he put a butt pad on that thing mine has a lot of felt recoil i get sore after a few rounds ive fired a lot of different firearms and that was the worst me personally id rather have iron sights than a red dot for a bolt action gun but to each his own i have to say there isnt a whole lot of people out side of the LE or military that would train in a adverse weather conditions if they didnt have to
Is that the carbine version of the 91/30? or is it just a different stock i know you duracoated it but i was wondering if it was bought or if it is the original.
@50TNCSA your an uneducated fool.. russia is not the only cold place in the world you donkey..come to canada..up north has some of the most harsh weather you have or will ever see.. somewhat similar to siberia or alaska, except were canadian and american and your russian so your a douche bag.......EH!!!
i got mine 3 days ago and i love it! Got it for only 90 bucks and it came with bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, and ammo pouches! got a box of 20 for only $8! cartridges are a little strange with the large rim but seem to be accurate. Today i put 5 rounds downrange at 100yds and got just one hit my 6in target but i was using irons so i feel pretty good about that. Ive had the same minor issues with mine as nutn such as the rim lock and failure to extract completely but its no big deal to me.
I don't know why people say the Mosin is an ugly gun. It has clean lines, very streamlined, very classic. Just beautiful, whether it's wood or DuraCoat like that one.
6:12 regarding stripper clips, I found that there is a preferred methods of getting them to go in.
I found that using my thumb to press down on the base of the top round and using my index finger to pull upward on the tip of the top round helped all the rounds to slid in much easier.
An m91/30 was my first firearm, and still one of my favorites. Theres just something about how simple it is that I just love. Great vid and shooting nutn, thanks TNP.
Try entering "Mozinka" into You Tube and you will discover a whole new world of "Mosinkas". Thats where the inside info is. Hope you speak Uki or Russki.
The REAL nickname (amongst Uki's and Russki's) of this rifle is "Mosinka", pronounced MoZEENkah. If you use this word, they will understand what you are talking about and they may even respect your knowledge of Russian firearms.
Fellas, Let me help you out a little. When you go to eastern Europe or Western Asia, leave the "Nagant" word at home. It is known over there as just the "Mosin". It is my understanding that after the court action, they scrapped the "Nagant" Bros. name as they didn't need them anymore.
I really like the DuraCoat look here. While I'm typically more of a "purist" with these guns, I'm definitely open to modifying a few in my current arsenal. I just bought Mosin number 7 this week. Great vid!
hey all, love the vids. I am now considering on buying a mosin for my self. And yes I plan on modding it out my self. new ati stock, turn down bolt, scope mounts. It will be used for hunting. To those who are purests, Oh well. there were millions produced between ww2 and vietnam and chances of finding one that is considered "RARE" are 1 in 1.3 million. so out with the old and in with updates lol.
@modillo1986 Hope you don't mean the ATI turned down bolt handle, I've heard (from Nutn and others) it's not exactly recommended... I have one from rock solid industries, and its great. apparently their scope mount is too.
I admire the Mosin Nagant rifle for the Russian Empires mentality on building an army with what you have. The predecessor to the gas operated AK-47 that still fights today; and that's almost as sick as this song is man who is this?!
The Mosin is one of the greatest rifle designs ever. As soon as you take it apart, you understand that this was fully designed to withstand worst battlefield conditions.
There's NOTHING as cool as shooting a Nagant in the Winter. It give's you a feeling like you are reliving a part of history. Without all the nasty things that war brings with it of course (Death, Hunger, Sickness, Sleep Deprivation, Stress etc.).
But everything else, the Sound, the Smell, the Feel, the Recoil, and most improtant of all, the Rifle. All the same. (Even though this was changed a bit)
Nutn, i hope you dont mind. im gonna buy a mosin and upgrade it exactly like yours. watched your other mosin video "$100 .30-06" so i know what to look for. might go Russian Army Brown with the duracoat though. You the man!
I have 1939 Mosin, can't wait to shoot it. Paid $99.00 Texas Frisco Gun Show. I am getting a Red Dot scope for sure. What do you recommend? Love the review vid.
I've got an original, unmodified 1942 91/30 and can shoot 3 inch groups at 100 yards with iron sights, and I've hit a bottle cap at 200 yards with iron sights. I'm very satisfied with it, and I would definitely say that it is comparable to modern bolt action rifles, considering its age. The performance with iron sights is just as good as any other bolt action rifle I've shot with iron sights.
What details/features of the Mosin-Nagant allows the shooter to fire it repeatedly without worrying about throat erosion and the barrel getting to hot?
Usually not a big fan of altering a firearms this old, but gotta admit, what's you've done looks nice. Great video and fun to watch. Wish I was at the range now.
i've always thought of the mosin bolt kinda complicated but is is a very stout rifle. i doubt ill ever get rid of mine...between my AK's, mosin and glock...im happy.
Hey nutnfancy, where about did you film this (i'm not looking for your specific spot, I know better)? Is it public or private land? It looks an awful lot like where I shoot here in Colorado. Great spot and great video!
Nutn how much prep did you do on the stock and metal before refinishing? I would like to do my Mosin in Od and leave the metal parts black. Also if anyone knows how to remove the springs that hold the forend of the stock together please LMK. Thanks, PS just picked up another P226R with NS, I don't know why I sold my first one, but I have missed it ever since
This is kinda funny for me, im from Sweden. And i've served in the army for 10 years. You think 15ºF is "arctic conditions", ive used my issued AK5C at -30ºF... We dont call that "arctic conditions"... we call that winter. When tempretures start falling below -50ºF, then its time to start using bolt action.
thank you smartacus88 it does look cheap.. and im just wondering aswell is the swiss k31?? all the asses keep saying in there vids a 7mm.5 swiss! im lookin on getting one in the future
I love my 91/30 best gun I own, ammo's cheap, hard hitting, and perfect for cold weather. In my experience the only time I've had SBS (sticky Bolt Syndrome) was when I shot Wolf out of it.
A better winter setup is the M39 Finn with a Darrell's scout mount, mojos or just the excellent original Finnish irons. It's got a heavy, accurized barrel that resists overheating and the resulting heat waves that obscure vision in the deep cold. I use mine all the time in the winter up here, and I know a guy who's whole family subsistence hunts in the high arctic with M39's
@Cosmoline true that!.....the finn mosins are the absolute best and i prefer a finn reworked m28/30 or m39 to any modern bolt rifle and the mauser k98k,and lee-enfield mk.5 are it's only competition when it comes to bolt rifles..........i like to call my "b" barrel m39 "The Roosian Mauser"!
Recently purchased a limbsaver for my mosin. though it increases my length of pull it vastly reduced the case of sore shoulder. a Must have for a long day at the range with a nagant.
That Mosin bolt is a finicky one in my experience. I've had an empty cartridge jammed in the chamber several times to where the bolt will rotate 45 degrees or so from horizontal until it begins the short rearward motion before the bolt handle is vertical. Did you have any malfunctions of that nature in your testing? Thanks for the professional reviews and testing, your hard work is greatly appreciated.

My winter rifle is the Remington 700 .300 Win Mag. Great when you have deer to take out at over 300 yards. Overkill everywhere else.

For the price of the rifle and ammo this will make a good poor mans urban sniper rifle. No she aint pretty but she'll get the job done.

What details/features of the Mosin-Nagant allows the shooter to fire it repeatedly without worrying about throat erosion and the barrel getting to hot?
ntrudr800 5 months ago
@unscmaverick I live in Louisville Kentucky. kygunco.com has Mosin Nagants for sale $69 dollars. You get a bayonet with the rifle of your choice.

Hey nutnfancy, where about did you film this (i'm not looking for your specific spot, I know better)? Is it public or private land? It looks an awful lot like where I shoot here in Colorado. Great spot and great video!

That's what great about the Mosin: Works even in the snow.

When tempretures start falling below -50ºF, then its time to start using bolt action.

is this a very good hunting rifle? i understand that a 30-06 is an essential deer rifle . just wondering
PADSCALE 6 months ago
@PADSCALE it's a very cheap hunting rifle that can be good.....as far as ballistics go the 30/06 and 7.62-54r are identical in performance

Cosmoline 6 months ago
@Cosmoline true that!.....the finn mosins are the absolute best and i prefer a finn reworked m28/30 or m39 to any modern bolt rifle and the mauser k98k,and lee-enfield mk.5 are it's only competition when it comes to bolt rifles..........i like to call my "b" barrel m39 "The Roosian Mauser"!
smartacus88 6 months ago
i understand this is a mosin, but where did you get this one with that black finish on it? it looks really cool.
