Yes, but Amos Gerald was the one who knew what he wanted. William Miller was the one who put it on paper for him. Gerald also said he wanted to live in a castle, so he had a castle shaped house built for him, which is now the Lawry Brothers Funeral Homes on Main Street. They used to be located on the main floor of the Gerald way back when.
Nice video. But just for the record, The Gerald Hotel was actually designed by the noted Maine architect, William Robinson Miller (1866-1929), whose works include libraries in Auburn, Fairfield, Farmington and Waterville, Maine.
I love that hotel. My mother and I would visit Northern Mattress (without any intention of purchasing furniture) to look at the beautiful molding, the staircase, and the ballroom. It's so sad, I truly hope the new own will at least attempt to restore it to its former glory. There is hope! The Herbert Grand Hotel in Kingfield still stands, and is being used as a hotel too! Perhaps we'll get lucky and be able to see the same happen to the Gerald.
Wonderful Video Kerri! It's nice to see someone else who is proud everytime they see that beautiful old Gerald standing still Magestically. Great Job. Zac W.
Also be advised there is a video prequel to this . It should be on the side bar to your right or just click on 'more from this user'. There will be a Waterville, Maine video up in about a week.
Hopefully some multimillionary will come and refinish it to its original beauty and bring it back to life again... we all can dream, right? Thanks for putting it on youtube.
Nice job Kerri. Thanks for reminding all of us of the beautiful history we have come from, and need to cherish, preserve, and share with our children. Steve and Lisa G.
