I miss Charlie O'Donnell so much. The show hasn't been the same without him. I do like Jim Thornton a lot though but Charlie had the best voice. Charlie and Rod Roddy are my all time favorite announcers.
I was hoping that they would show Charlie saying "Wheeeeeeeeeeellll of Fortune!" before they showed his picture, then his name with the years 1932-2010 under them.
CBS (the distributor) can mandate the tribute be aired. According to Pat's Twitter, they taped this on Wednesday and began taping the next batch of shows Thursday. Rich Fields did this week's tapings.
I have been watching WOF for a number of years now. I can imagine how tough it must be for Pat Sajak to have to do this kind of thing for a second time. I remember watching WOF in the 88-89 season (I was 12 then) when Pat made the announcement of the death of Jack Clark. Both Jack and Charlie were class acts whose talents will be sorely missed. :-(
@tzankoff I remember picking up on WHEEL OF FORTUNE during the 1989-1990 season onward. I was just about a year old back then. Since then, I have always adored Pat Sajak, Vanna White, the music, wheel, puzzle boards, and most of all, Charlie O'Donnell. I'm really going to miss him.
Tough to watch. My brother and I have been watching Wheel since I was 5 (we're 26 now) and Charlie was the only announcer we ever knew. Tonight I decided to watch Wheel with him as a tribute. RIP Charlie.
Thank you for posting this. I was watching this on WCPO in Cincinnati and they cut off the show in the middle of the credits (as they always do), and I was hoping they wouldn't be asshole enough to cut it this time. They did, and you're the savior, rivera5b. Thanks again and R.I.P. Charlie. Rich Fields will be joining Wheel in two weeks on a temporary basis to start, but hope it's permanent.
@Wheeloffortunefan999 Not only that, Johnny is getting up there in age too. He actually hosted three different game shows before he went into being an announcer.

@bluebear1985 You are right bluebear. Johnny Gilbert is 86 years old.

@rodney1279 I knew he was fairly old, but I wasn't sure of his age. For sure that has to make him older than Bob Barker.
