having been at this for about 4 years now. I can see what Hes saying. It is a slow progression. I obviously will never be at his level (who is?) But it is inspiring to hear him say, it takes time...
I'm watching this video as a beginner guitarist. These guys are my inspiration, just watching him do it so naturally and easily makes me feel like I could just pick up a guitar and do exactly what he does. Truth of the matter is-as much as I'd like that, it just won't happen and so I find I am doing MY best to 'creep' forward. I've watched lessons that show you exactly what to play, and i'm finding, just a general jump start like Knopfler shows us is all you need to start your practising.
Awesome! I love his comment about slowly creeping forward as a guitarist. So true. We mortals tend to think that the genius did not have to work at it.
I think it is unfair to try to say who is the greatest. There are many (Clapton, Gilmour, Knopfler) to name a few. But Knopfler is certainly in the top class and my favorite. 'Brothers In Arms' is the greatest song ever IMO. Mark Knopfler's lyrics seperates him from the pack for me.
Very nice video, inspiring to someone who sometimes becomes impatient with my progress. Thanks. I relate to his approach in the same way i sharing my skill, in my own profession. Straightforward and (K.I.S.S), Keep it simple. Works all the time.
Wonder how many guitarists would love to have Mark Knopfler give them a music lesson ? He could probably make millions doing so, even if he doesn't need it !
Funny enough if you watch the story of the guitar from bbc there's a scene where mark was playing with some young guy in his studio and the guy is playing the guitar with his fingers like mark so I thought it might be a guitar lesson I'm not sure wish it was. I would do whatever it takes to play with mark! so would all of us! all the best.
such a humble guy and such a big artist!

I love that "...your fingers don't want to do it, of course, but you've kind of got to stick at it..." remark..
You make it look so easy, you really do.
Thank you for taking the time to share. It's a real boost to someone like me, who's fingers don''t want to do it.

@wmwoodard31. The blues lick is mississipi blues. I have the full lesson on: Complete Accoustic Guitar, by Mel Reeves on DVD. Hope that helps.
