I somewhat agree with your larger point but just for clarification; David Lee Roth does play both guitar and harmonica. He plays the opening acoustic guitar on "Ice Cream Man", he plays acoustic on "Could This Be Magic?" and he plays both the opening acoustic guitar and the harmonica on "The Full Bug". He usually uses open E tuning for is guitar parts. Look up "Van Halen - Ice Cream Man - Largo '82" on YouTube for a video of him playing acoustic guitar.

you also have to consider that Rush has never had any line up changes since 1974 and that they tour pretty much every year. Van Halen had the advantage of Roth rejoining the band which would be a huge draw for many fans. Also take into consideration, and no ill will toward VH or their fans, that VH has alot more appeal to the average meathead rock fan. I love Rush by the way.

WTF is up with u Rush fans? You latch onto one sentence in an entire spoken paragraph and take it as a slight towards your band. He clearly states that all the bands that were mentioned had songs that he "appreciated" and listened to but NO band has an entire album that he loves including HIS OWN BAND VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!!! He was being honest. Using your standards that would mean he's slighting his own band but you're not complaining about that are you?

I love Rush too, but if it comes down to bringing one album from a band for a roadtrip, gotta go with Van Halen. They're the ultimate party band, even today

you also have to consider that Rush has never had any line up changes since 1974 and that they tour pretty much every year. Van Halen had the advantage of Roth rejoining the band which would be a huge draw for many fans. Also take into consideration, and no ill will toward VH or their fans, that VH has alot more appeal to the average meathead rock fan. I love Rush by the way.

I know you weren't being literal. What I'm saying is that he was on top of the music world for roughly ten years. And, he IS still making music. Do most people care about his solo career? No, I grant u that. But when he reunited w/ Van Halen in '07, their tour grossed close to $100 million. Has beens don't draw that kind of money. And it bears mentioning that Rush's last two consecutive tours didn't gross half that amount.

Daves a genius...think of it this way....The one hit wonders are okay but the real genius comes from other bands/songs that u hear the first time and -JUST DONT GET IT. if u listen to Dave more than once, he is hilarious and quite frankly very intelligent. If u take him serious, yeah u would call him an asshole. However, he is, in a way serious .....(in a way) ...... but then again. why take a man like him serious, hes a rock star.... He wasn't criticizing Rush. He's simply saying that he couldn't make the kind of music Rush does. And he's right -that wouldn't be natural for him. What's wrong with him saying that it's not his ilk? I like that he's straightforward & honest. Like his example about a celebrity saying, "I'm just like everybody else" - Dave is 100% right - celebrities who say that stuff are completely full of shit.

He may not have been ragging on them in this interview but it is known Dave is not a fan of the greatest Rock band the world will ever know. This is not the first time he has said something about Rush that was not flattering. He is a jealous sap who is now a has been. Even though his time at being was only 26 minutes in the 80s, as I have already stated.

What are u talking about? Roth became a star in '78 when Van Halen first came out! That success continued until the mid 80's. He was IT - the biggest rock n' roll frontman on the planet. I know u love Rush & hate Roth - but c'mon, don't try to rewrite history. And no offense, but I don't know too many people who like Rush either. Not saying I don't respect the talent, they're just not eveyone's cup of tea.
