the sad thing is that i think modern art used to be ok not ''great''but now that people are well...... retarded because now people will have a few sticks all round a paper and someone buys it for say 1000 dollars so on then the buyer would think it ment a symbol of say a''destiny''or a''memory''practically just seeing what the buyer wants...when they gotta see its just some random shapes that the ''artist'' just put together...
LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! So good and so true. Damn hippies. It's post-modernism gone crazy. Made it's way into the english departments and art departments around the world. Thank goodness the science departments told these shroom filled hippies to take a hike.
@schmopykins oh yes I had english last year and it was soul destroying the amount of pointless analysis we had to do, ripping apart people's novels in search of symbolism that doesn't matter, luckily I don't need to know how to dissect depressing 20th century literature for engineering :)
I'm an American artist, but I agree with most of what you say. The bad part is that there are two broadly defined sorts of art today: 1) commercially viable art, e.g. Thomas Kinkade and other schmaltzy rubbish designed to appeal to the LCD of Middle American "taste", and 2) academically viable art that will impress gallery curators and get you NEA grants, shit (often quite literally shit) like Damien Hirst, Manzoni, Serrano et al). There's no room in the middle for actual good art.
Don't confuse modern crap with modern art. Some of us go through great lengths trying to find a niche that is of our own without having to hear the words, "Oh, well that looks like something Renoir painted... etc" But even a Renoir would be considered modern art because at the time, he too was pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable and was is just... crap.
@ProfessorCWI like I said, I will respect art that has taken a great deal of time and effort to create something beautiful, the renoir paintings look good, I am mostly having a go at people who call a few everyday items mashed together and defecated on a "sculpture"
@SirRiehl by no means am I trying to insult you good sir, but if you had paid attention to previous comment you may have realised that this was my second video, no ones first few videos are great, but I have got a better camera and I now have movie maker so I can edit, and I am good at remembering whole paragraphs in order to produce better videos, since this there have been 52 others, if you wish to see how I have come on, check out the more recent ones, thankyou
@MrJaxt it was my second video, back then I didn't really care about quality, plus it was filmed at silly oclock at night, but now I'm trying to make them bettter
I beg to differ. Art is about expressing yourself. And if expressing yourself means making pointless art, then let it be. You are just probably jealous because you could never come up with something brilliant. You're too much of a logical person. Maybe stop thinking so hard? And my friend Ricki's an artist, and he does shave.
"You are just probably jealous because you could never come up with something brilliant. You're too much of a logical person. Maybe stop thinking so hard?"
Should that comment be taken into consideration?
I mean:
The ad hominem attack instead of a constructed argument; the accusation of him being a "logical person", like that's a bad thing; and "stop thinking so hard"? Are you fucking serious?
Modern art is the result of elitism and contempt amongst the intellectual and cultural elite. It is ugly and meaningless, and deliberately so, because modern artists are trying to be unique at any cost, including the cost of beauty itself.
Well... Interesting commentary. I could go on about Suprematism and De Stijl and things like that, but that would be beside the point. I think the true point is I really sympathize with you on the superficial culture that has molded over art. But that bourgeois section of society has always been there. After I am sure that 1940's "hipsters" flocked to Jackson Pollock thinking "wait till I tell people I like this!" and the same thing with Picasso or Monet.
@Ozzrya91 very good point, I do admit that art where effort has been put in is good, what I think is talentless crap is the mad stuff like exhibiting your own feces

I wanted to comment this video, but I found it to bland.
I commented anyway.
Also, you might want to check for disembodied voices in the white noise of this recording. It might be the ghost of Kasimir Malevich!

Grow up. Please.
And do you even know what an ad hominem is? Come on. Go google it and then say you knew what it was all along.
Pathetic. Just pathetic.
