  • I do understand what he means when he talks about ppl bringing in their own items (in this case wine) - in my case a bday cake, and i had to get all the plates, find a nice plate for the cake, find them a cake spatula bring forks for them clear th plates then take the cake backand put it in the orginal box and bag...u should kinda leave a bit extra if u bring your own stuff from home

  • how am i a "hater" ? I luv mr waiter man i just dont agree with him. like is said, if someone orders a 500 $ bottle of wine does he deserve $100 but if someone orders a 200$ bottle of wine he deserves $40? did he work a lot harder with the 500 wine then he did the 200?

I agree that ppl should tip on wine, but maybe not the full 20%

  • Also, good video! To the people bitching about having to tip on the price of a bottle: Dining out is LUXURY. We servers and bartenders are there to make you have a special experience; it is not a necessity or a right. We get paid a very low wage and expect to make that difference up in you tipping us on our service to you, the happy customer. If you have the money to go out and spend $300 on a bottle of wine, be real, you can tip $60 on it. It's the way it goes here in America.

  • @TheGreatOne1185 I'm not totally sure on how other states handle this (or if it is even a state-by-state case), but in Pennsylvania you are absolutely allowed to bring home a corked bottle of wine from a restaurant. I took an alcohol awareness class and they covered that as a topic of discussion. You should check and make sure your state lets you do this, or if you do go to a restaurant, your waiter should definitely know that information. :)

  • I have a question that is off topic but I have always wanted to know the answer. If I order a bottle of wine (for the purpose of this question, lets just assume it is a $300 bottle of wine) and my gf and I have 1 glass each with our meal, what happens to the rest of the bottle once dinner is over? Do I get to take it with me since it was an expensive bottle or does the house keep it and get to drink the rest of a $300 bottle of wine?

  • One thing I'd like to add, though the ones saying $60 is a very big tip have a point. People who spend $300 on a bottle of liquid probably have extra money.. and if the waiter was there for you to fill your glass, do his best to give you a pleasant dining experience with your good friends.. shouldn't they give a bit away? It's not him begging.. nor deserving such a high price.. but it's for the gratitude of him standing there and being at your beck and call.

  • @jessmar if you honestly believe servers are always making $60 an hour, you're crazy. Yes that may be the tip from a table once in a while but what about the hours during the days when no tables come in at all, and the hours spent in preparation for service( restaurants don't set themselves up) when a server is only making the $3-$4 an hour. Factor that in plus the fact that tipping out will send you home with a bit more than half of your tips before tax is even taken out does not add up to you

  • I never thought NOT to tip on bottle service...I always just tip on full bill... that sucks that people are so cheap...I have not been dining out lately cause I know IM responsible for 20% or more on my bill and I am trying to save money...BUT when I am out to dinner i am very aware of how to treat my waiter(btw the ladder affraid of heights was really funny)

  • best moment = MWM on a ladder screaming. lmao

  • Lol @ JessMar. You talk about entitlement while you make an argument about how you should make more just because you have a degree. Who's more entitled, the person busting their ass and expecting a standard/proper 20% tip or the asshole saying "I have a 4 year degree, pay me more!" If you really are a server, then I guess you'll be happy with $5 tips on $85 tabs because the meal they ordered was no harder to serve than a $20 meal.

  • JessMar69 is one hell of a hater. He/she probably works at a Denny's where $40 is a good shift, thus is getting all bent out of shape at Mr Waiter man's tip percentage, and level of service.

  • Wow, a whole lot of negative comments today. To those that seem to have server envy over the money that is made, it is a very hard job all around that breaks down your body and spirit over time. A guest should always tip on bottle service, period. Good vid Waiterman!

  • Have you heard his sense of entitlement recently ? There are people who don't make $60 an hour with degrees ! Who studied more than just wine and a menu ! And MWM will be serving other tables during this time as well...

People don't get their bonuses, work overtime and don't get paid for etc...those are people who may be really getting ripped off. You get what the customer values your work at...you may not be entitled to $75 for pouring a $500 bottle of wine. Doesn't that seem over the top 2 u?

  • You make it seem like you have one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Lately all you do is complain about how much work you do and how under appreciated you are. Why not put your job in perspective by sharing with us just how much money you make each shift so that we can get a true understanding of your hard work.

  • I expect 20% on wine sales. With high end wines you learn everything about the bottle, ranging from vintage, varietal percentages and tasting notes, to how long it was aged in what sort of barrel, or how long the skins were left on the grape. There is wine pairing and suggestion as well as serving traditions involved. Cork goes to the left of the host, pour to the right of host starting with the oldest woman, much to consider while juggling tables.

  • I see a LOT of wine at work, and have never seen anyone not tip on the wine. Maybe I'm just lucky. One odd thing though, I'm not a fan or refilling people's wine glasses. If he only wants one glass, and she want the rest of the bottle, I'll let them decide that. I've been out with friends where I get a bottle, and a friend wants to "try" it, but the waiter keeps topping off their glass. They don't want to be rude and tell the server no, but I sure as hell wanted to.

  • removed a long post about most people's wine service (including my own) being limited to very simple wine menus, the bottom line is that you tip on the total bill.

ultimatly mr waiter man.... ive been in the game for awhile myself, and i'm kind of resigned to the mentality that good customers will be good to you, assholes will be assholes and you cant really change that.

is this really just a defeatist attitude or am i just hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

    get back at me

  • how much do i have to tip for you to smile at me?

  • @jessmar69 you seem to misunderstand the point, in alot of resterants (including mine currently) you have a basic wine list with just one type of wine from the major regions (aka 1 sav blanc, 1 shiraz, etc), these wines basicly sell themselves as most people know what a merlot is. that said it takes a special type of asshole to look through thier recipt and divvy up what part of the meal theyre tipping on and what theyre not.

Keep it comin mr waiter man.

  • Today, I was in a party of 8.. We were sat when it was just us first two (but we ordered appetizers and there were open tables so I think it was ok). The other 6 came in about a half an hour late. She was wonderful and didn't even flinch when I had to ask for a napkin when something spilled dip on the menu. Sadly she told me she was grateful for us being so nice. She must have had an awful time since we did get lots of refills yet still thanked us. I know Dad tipped well, so it's good.

  • I am a fellow server as well right now, & a fan of yours but lately you have been out of control. "TIPPP ME TIPP MEEEE."

You really think u deserve $60+ for pouring a $300 bottle of wine ? Just because u studied it ? Because you worked really really hard ?

I've neer seen anyone make such a big deal about opening a bottle of wine and getting out glasses. But everyone needs to value YOUR time. When people don't get $60 an hour, or as much respect as u demand after studying 4 yrs in university.

  • @JessMar69 I have to respectfully disagree with you here. Perhaps your serving exp has been of the more casual variety. I think MWM clearly, convincingly & thoughtfully makes the case for why 1 must tip on bottle service. This rant was like a well crafted film. BEGINNING: wine knowledge/tests just to get hired AND stay employed. MIDDLE: How wine service may often be the most time consuming of all. END: How we lose money if you don't tip on bottle service. Brilliantly executed, IMO.

  • @pardonmypardon Perhaps I didn't make MY point clearly enough.

$60 -$70 he deserves for pouring wine ? Let's say, on a $300 bottle of wine. He deserves that ? What if that wine was $100, would he deserve $20-25 ? What if the differene in work he does on a 300 bottle of wine of a 100 bottle of wine ? Nothing, yet he feels he deserves $60 just because the wine was more expensive ?

Last vid he was complaining someone rounded down a $1 and left him $14 instead of $15. He whines like a baby.

  • @JessMar69 I'm sorry to say that I still don't think your point is made clearly at all.

It is irrelevant what makes the total of the bill. What IS relevant is that a 20% tip is a 20% tip - whether it's at the local diner where the avg. glass of wine is $7 or if it's at a fine dining establishment where the avg. glass of wine is $15. You get certain jobs BECAUSE of your exp.

If after watching this vid all you think Mr. Waiter Man is doing is "pouring" the wine, then watch again.

  • @pardonmypardon Did you see him talking about how if he makes a mistake, you should still tip him 20% because maybe it wasn't his fault, maybe it was the kitchens fault, or maybe it was his fault but his other tables were being really picky and....geez. He needs to just GET over himself. Other people get way more education about things other than wine and someties they get ripped off-work overtime, dont get their bonuses, and they STILL dont have the entitlment of this effing WAITER !

  • @JessMar69 1st, I don't recall MWM saying anything of the sort (I think ur twisting his words around). 2nd, I don't find him entitled, but simply illustrating for the masses the correct thing to do as guest. MOST customers DO tip on bottle service, but for those who don't this vid is for them. 3rd, I don't believe u wait tables because $60/hr is not what a 20% tip on a $300 btl of wine does for u. Lastly, he made clear in other ramblings that he uses satire to make an ultimate point.

  • @pardonmypardon $60 is 20% of $300 before tax, although he wants to be tipped after tax. So actually he wants more than $60(for this example). I was thinking how long he'd realistically have to pour wine for, an hour sounds about right. Plus, he'll have other tables in that timeframe I assume. But oh, getting glasses, and pouring wine, so tough.

  • @JessMar69 Well, he does explain in the video that he does need to tip out to other people, so he doesn't get the whole $60- maybe half of that or a little more than half, I'm guessing. Also, as he explains, the government assumes he gets a 10%-15% tip, so he is automatically taxed on that whether he gets the tip or not. So, if he receives a shitty tip, he has to pay more in taxes than he received. If you are spending $300+. what's $60? This is obviously at a fancier restaurant, not a diner.

  • @JessMar69 As Mr Waiter man already said, what's the difference between 10 beers at $7 a piece, and a $70 bottle of wine? I ask this because tonight I had a party of 9, who did just that, consume 10 bottles of beer. I would simply walk by, and 1 or 2 guys would give a slight nod, saying they wanted another. The bar is by dish, so it was never out of my way to grab another. I worked a lot easier fetching all those beers that dealing with a bottle of wine.

  • Oh wow!! You're working harder at this side job then your dream! Well, at least you have a bunch of happy fans.
