  • @cmf4321 Secretariat raced and won in 1973 on Sivan 9, and he came the week of

Sivan 6 (the Day of Pentacost and the Day of the Torah given to mankind). He was

a gift from God Almighty like Jesus, who I think was born Sivan 6 on the Jewish

    calendar. You are right!

  • @pmcMatilda thank you very much for this comment i liked it

  • Posting appreciated. I especially like being able to see the legendary Secretariat in motion while music plays. Extra Special. THANK YOU.

  • This horse LOVED to run...tremendous animal and beautiful too :)

  • absolutely I just love him and am a fan! What a creation of god this animal was!

  • That horse makes Michael Jordan and Peyton Manning look bad.

  • Yeah 31 lengths and a world record time for 1.5miles that will never be beat

  • Secretariat had the looks, the speed, and from what I've read, a great personality. He was truly one of a kind, like Elvis.

  • Finally...for the 1973 Marlboro Cup...Sec, "pulling up" on finishing the race passed the 1 3/16th's pole a full second under the world record; he passed the 1 1/4 pole in 1:57 and 4/5th's, a world record at that time.

  • @bbmtge You can also add the MOW Stakes and Canadian International where Sec demolished older champions with the same ease as the Marlboro Cup, his jockey never once touching him in all 3 races. But Sec also faced good competition in the TC races, besides Sham and Forego. Our Native and My Gallant were both G1 winners, the latter beating Forego and ON in the Bluegrass Stakes. My Gallant was the other G1 champ who didn't fizzle out at the Belmont (like Sham), and got killed by 31 lengths.

  • @liszt1186 Yes...in the MOW...Tentam was handily defeated in what looked like a cakewalk for Secretariat. I think the Canadian Intl showed that Sec could have easily handled 2 miles. Not many realize that Sham ran, arguably, 1:59 and 4/5th's in the KD with Sec last quarter mile, including being wide at the 1/4 pole in 22 4/5th's. Thanks for your info!!!

  • @bbmtge My pleasure. I enjoyed reading your description of the older champs Secretariat faced in the Marlboro Cup, and the details of that race - it was indeed a stellar field that day, which also included the prestigious Travers Stakes winner, Annihilate 'Em.

  • @liszt1186 The list goes on. Not only did the filed carry credentials, it was one of the all-time great races in my opinion. I don't think that aspect of Sec career, post TC, gets enough attention. Especially when you consider that Nack did not think Sec above 80-90% after the Whitney. In any event, thank you for posting your video. I was fortunate enough to watch Sec when I was 14, but the videos allow such examination and enjoyment. Again, thank you.

  • @bbmtge It must have been quite special to watch Secretariat race. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. Take care.

  • @liszt1186 It was special. I had been watching the TC races since Majestic Prince ran in 1969. By the way, you may already know this, I found an article in the SI vault by Nack. It has Sec on March 14, 1973 ( 6 weeks prior to his 3rd birthday) running a 3/8th's mile workout in 32 3/5th's!!! Simply otherworldly!!!

  • @bbmtge I didn't know about that workout Secretariat did before his 3rd birthday. Extraordinary!

  • @liszt1186 Great article. I have been told that Sec was about 10% over his racing weight at the time. Truly superb.

  • @liszt1186 BTW...I found out that the 3/8th's workout was on March 14, 1973. This was his last workout before the Bayshore on 3/17. In the mud, Sec ran 7 furlongs in, from memory, 1:23 and 1/5th having to fight through a wall of horses before drawing away under a hand ride. Now, here is a very interesting point; Sec was weighed 12 days later at a whopping 1555 pounds. His Belmont weight was 1131 (these stats are form Charles Hatton). Sec could have carried a house if necesary.

  • @bbmtge Well, that puts to bed any doubts people may have about Secretariat carrying similar weights to the likes of Dr. Fager and Spectacular Bid as 4 year olds, and still crushing the opposition. Like Eddie Maple said at the Canadian Stakes: Secretariat "could carry a house". Thanks for that info.

  • @liszt1186 Absolutely. If you would like, rscarbro and I share linnks whenever we find info on Sec. Would be happy to send them. Just foind one on his viral condition at the Whitney and his scratch at the Travers.

  • @bbmtge I would love to receive links on Secretariat. Thanks a lot.

  • @liszt1186 Will do. I will retrieve what I have.

  • Sec started slow but ran the field down; the 3/4 fraction was 1:09 and 1/5th. Around the turn it was Sec and RR. Sec made an imperceptible move drawing away from RR to win in WR time at 1:45 and 2/5th's under a hand ride. Never exerted himself. RR and Cougar II arguably ran 1:46 and 1:46 and 1/5th that day. fastest 1,2,3 in history for 9 furlongs. I do not believe a filed with those credentials had ever run together with the possible exception of Dr. Fager, Damascus and Buckpasser.

  • So...the field is very well credentialed. RR drew top weight at 127 pounds. Scale is that the 4YO should carry at least 5 pounds more than the 3YO. Cougar and KTM drew 126 with Sec at 124, actually above scale. The remainder of the filed drew lower weights. It is important to remember that this was Sec first race after the Whitney thus his first race back from sepsis. His workouts leading up to the race were not good. So...how did the field run? The track was rated "wet, fast"...(con)

  • it's really an amazing horse!

  • This is not true man o war was the best! Even though secritariate beat his times doesn't mean anything I mean he was the won who ran 72 races only loosening one unlike secritariate who ran 10 and lost 2 I mean really everyone i live both horses but no man o war is better i promise u

  • @trosselit okay REALLY you can't say that. BOTH were amazing horses!!! they both made there records and were "freaks of nature" no one can say who was really "better" but we can atleast say who are favorite was.

  • @trosselit Wow!!! What an idiot!!! Another hater who lies. MOW did not run 72 races, he ran 21 as did Sec. MOW was a phenom and generations ahead of his time. However, he ran in a completely noncompetitive era, thus running, not racing, in isolation. Sec raced in the most competitive era and dominated like no other. The truth is in his performances. All of this is very basic. Do some research before making yourself look like a fool!!!

  • @bbmtge ...what really noticeable horses did Sec run against? Don't get me wrong I love him...but still. The only ones I can really think of are Sham & Forego...but Sec. only raced against Sham several times and Forego like once, and that was before Forego became really good in horse racing...

  • @ItStartedAtUs A great question. The best example would be the 1973 Marlboro Cup. In this race, against Sec, were the following: Riva Ridge (HOF, Eclipse Awards in 1971, 1973, KD, Belmont WR @ 1 3/16th's miles); Cougar II (HOF, Eclipse Award, Turf, 1972, ran 1 1/6th's miles in under 1:40); Kennedy Road (Candian HOF, 5 time Canadian Champion, set 6 furlong record at Woodbine that stood for 25 years); Key To The Mint ( 1972 Eclipse Award). These horses were all OLDER than Sec. (con)

  • Secretariat had it all!!!! HE WAS THE SUPER HORSE!!!!!!!!!

  • He had it all!! As one commentator said on the Sports Century clips, "If Secretariat had been handled by anything other than fallible human beings, he would have been undefeated." As it was, no one could have handled him better than the team blessed with him. mho ♥

  • I was born in 1974. I love Secretariat.

  • i like

  • Whenever I need reminding of how MAGNIFICENT God's creations can be, I look at Secretariat, especially in action. He had a team around him who strived for excellence, who valued their abilities & who treated this equine friend w/ love & care. THEY'LL NEVER BE ANOTHER SECRETARIAT!!

  • The greatest athlete of all time........ Secretariat!

  • God looks at some horses and makes them good. Then there are a few he makes great. But there are some, the rarest and most magnificent of all, to them he says with a knowing look and a mischievous grin “I give you the speed to chase down the wind, the courage to face all comers, and the unyielding heart of a champion. You my child, you will be extraordinary.” Here is to the most extraordinary of them all.

  • God made only one perfect mortal...it wasn't a man...it was a horse named Secretariat. He did something no human or horse has ever done in history. He speeded UP while breaking EACH quarter mile world track record. It has NEVER been done before or since. He was the supernatural miracle born on Earth. We'll never see this again. And he was only 3 years old when he was retired. What a shame. He loved to run & we'll never know what he was capable of doing by the age of 4 & 5.

  • @cmf4321 Considering the millions of "hits" this and other mediums sporting Sec in tributes, Secretariat is on Mt Olympus looking over his domain quite nicely. After 38 years still no horse has approached his speed or margin of victory. there was a 25 year gap between Citation and Sec, and now I think it has been 33 years since Spectacular Bid won it last. Will there be another TC winner? Undoubtedly yes. Another Secretariat? Not in our lifetime to be certain. Sec is immortal now...

  • the best horse with the best jockey a solid trainer and brilliant owner = triple crown

  • FANTASTSTIC

  • amazing video, i love it

  • there will only be one Secretariat my friend

  • he's running to the breeding farm instead of the slaughterhouse. good for him. today's breeders (not all of them) are a lousy bunch.

  • i think THIS was a message from god that humans are not the best creature on earth

    this message was called SECRETARIAT

  • Yeah I know all that about Man O War and Secretariat--and I hope. I have loved horses all my life--the point I was trying to make--but must have missed it---is they made it sound like with modern breeding techniques they could produce horses like Sec, any time they wanted---haven't done it yet. I hope you are wrong---that it doesn't take 14 moe years. We need a horse like this NOW, With the unemployment and all the troubles in the U.S. we could use a hero like this now. Thank-you for your reply

  • Never get tired of watching GOD'S Horse run. I have listened to so many documentaries about him it is unreal. At the end of the KD one of the announcers said I am told the way they breed horses now--they can produce others like him, or something to that affect----well buddy we are still waiting for his duplicate and it has been 39 years and we are still waiting. Where is he? When another horse makes that move in the Preakness and breaks Belmont record-we have a new Secretariat--we are waiting.

  • @vetralovesdoug the spacing between Man O War an Sec was 53 years, long enough to say that each was a once in a lifetime horse champion...the best ever. both were affectionately called Big Red; both were chestnut; both had barrel chests and mountains of muscle; both dominate their era; both will never be forgotten an both are the measure toward all will be compared. And Sec was 4 seconds faster in the Belmont for 1.5 miles.

  • Secretariat. greatest racehorse that ever lived. biggest inspiration to me. :)

  • Forego would have been 2nd but he hit the rail hard early. Forego is my all time favorite horse just because he was pure heart and courage for years. He was born with bad legs but he ran his heart out every race. He was Zenyatta's great-uncle.

  • my trainers got one of his rivals grandsons Man"O"War
