Thank you very much for "wayfaring stranger" I love this song that conveys strength, God used his gifts follow in your life. Thanks Selah. From Argentina
Heard this song for the first time in college, sung unrehearsed by two soon to be methodist true preachers of the gospel. Seems it pierced my heart before verse two was finished. If you are a young, naive christian and hear this song, you almost have to ask yourself am I holding onto this world for dear life, or am I living faithfully focused on the end of my journey, Heaven with Christ.
For anyone who is looking for a biblical explanation of the gospel and salvation, I would highly recommend checking out the scribd website that is listed on my channel. The scripture references given on there make it very clear and easy to understand.
I love this song. I've sang it all my life. I'll soon be free from every trials, This form will rest beneath the sod. I'm going there to see my FATHER I'm going there no more to roam. Thanks for posting.
Excellent talent - but I really feel it is 'over produced'. Much prefer this song when it is stripped back to its roots - it becomes much more powerful. Simple is sometimes better and stronger.
@mermerchar This song, like most songs, can be performed effectively in many different ways. This "production" is fabulous and gives me chills. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, my dear.
not bad... but, at least for me, this is a bit overly boombastic, there's not much left of that poor wayfaring spirit... Prefer the 16 horsepower version so far but that might be due to a lack of a proper authentic blues version a la koko the clown
I am so tired of people arguing over the origin of this song. Learn your history. The song is most likely of Romani origin because of it's structure, phrasing, and the time frame it was written in.
@KABASO That's only a theory. No one knows for sure where it came from. There is actually more evidence that the song is of Romani origin or "Gypsy" origin.
I truly love this hymn. I didn't think that anyone could do it justice like Trace Atkins does. But I must say this remdention of it is absolutely beautiful.
This doesn't have the flavor...it IS a negro spiritual and it's not an old hymn. It IS a negro spiritual. Sorry for being so emphatic. Negro spirituals are unique and have a special place in history. I just get ticked off when we lump everything together.
@SupremoHumberto Actually that statement can't be proven. Considering a hymn is a song or ode to praising a god or deity it can't be said that this is exactly what the song is doing. It is just telling a story. Compared to traditional hymns...this song doesn't fit.
@chrisjonmel1 "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" is a traditional folk song of unknown origin. There are many and varied opinions as to its origin. Some of the proposed origins are Appalachian folk, old Irish folk, and Catskills folk. One theory is that it originates from the Negro Spirituals and there was a deliberate concealment of the song's origins.
@zee339 You must be ten years old. Your reference is wikipedia which was written by an idiot because his citation was a website with the lyrics and a book from the 80s containing north America hymns. He provided no reference to the historical "facts" he stated. Mainly because there isn't any. There is no information on the origin of the song, only speculation. My statement is based on knowledge of music and history. Do some research on the subject and you'll find more evidence in my argument.
Wonderful Selah did not leave anything out of this wonderful old hymn no doubt once sung by some who had every reason to think about a better time. But that isstill true for many today...for those who are hurting...wrap yourself in Jesus...He still...never fails.
@Staymewithflagons Stop putting god into everything, it is ignorant and no one but you needs to hear your beliefs in a god or what ever!!! So stop throwing your religious words around!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone please tell me what they are singing in the background. I`m trying to arrange this for my choir. It doesn`t make any sense to me. a quinna - a soona ???
Me and my sister have to sing the last two verses of this beautiful song in my church's youthgroup. She has the second to last verse and I have the last verse. My cousin got saved while I was singing my verse! It makes me cry everytime I think of it!
youtube search "old bible found in palestine" and watch it. Proof by Jesus' own family that his message was corrupted in the bible. Jesus' brothers Saint James and Jude say in their letters and books that Jesus was 'the Servant of God' and that he is not divine. These books were declared heresy by the Vatican. You are not following Jesus' true teachings. He wants us to worship 'The Father' YHWH Elohim, One God in Heaven and not him.
@animallovr61 Thank you. He's amazing! And I'm an animal lover too. Currently working on getting Canada's horse anti-slaughter Bill, C-544, to pass into law.
I can remember singing this folksong in the highschool choir back in the 70's and seems to me they taught us it was a spiritual sung by black slaves....sure sounds likely considering the lyrics. So sad.
oh.. i will always sing it solo for my grandpa... i'm 9 yrs. old now, i think grandpa will be happy with me because i always sing this song... i love this song v-much
@truthtrekker Do you meditate with 'chrystals' or what? This world has denigrated itself into an endless chasm void of life as it rests in Jesus hands. There is no 'Life' outside of Christ, only this lonely planet searching for eternity when it's right there in front of us all the time!Religion is bad,but faith in GOD is not!Heaven is eternity enraptured with all the believers as ONE with GOD!Who would want to miss that?
@royboy56100 My life does not rest in Jesus hands. REVELATIONS 1:18 Jesus Christ `states` he has `the keys of hell and of death`. He mentions no other keys. Those are the only keys Christ can offer anyone.
Jesus never existed the story is an allegory based on the Sun. The Sun comes on the clouds and all eyes can see it. The Sun shimmers or 'walks' on the water,
@truthtrekker well its too bad you have such a pantheistic point of view..but that okay. That is what this world has;'free choice', and in America even more so!good luck with yer life...
@truthtrekker It does not refer to Jesus by name in that passage...how did you know? Silly trekker, he offers much more than that....have you not read the other things Jesus says?
@volvobilbe No, because that is not what is written in the text and even a fleeting glance at history in the past 2000 years will show the exact opposite.
Jesus is a myth based on the Sun, where all the conciousness of the dead are.
@truthtrekker there are other keys: " And I will give unto thee the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.Matt 16:19
@truthtrekker An interesting perspective, but not a universal definition, for in the Holy Bible, 3 people did not die: Enoch, Elijah and Jesus. Nor do you have to die to be "with" God, for He is everywhere and will guide you along the way if you ask Him sincerely. Not everyone takes the same road in the hereafter. You may choose between life (with God) and death (adrift) beforehand. That, at least, is my understanding.
"Kwenda na Zulu" is being sung in the background. It means "going to heaven" Nicol Smith had the idea of adding this Kituba chant. Nicol's parents were missionaries in Zaire, Africa for many years as she was growing up.
@akiracunninham I take it you are already an Eva fan. Have you ever heard Eva's other version of "Wayfaring Stranger" on the "Live at Pearls" cd. A more traditional take on the song, just Eva and her guitar, but every bit as awsome!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The most ridiculous concept ever perpetrated by Homo Sapiens is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of his creations, that he can be persuaded by their prayers, and becomes petulant if he does not receive this flattery. Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest and least productive industries in history.
Not at all! I find life more enjoyable with Christ in my life. I became a believer at 24 years old...I had plenty of time to take the 'fun road' which I found myself drinking (partying), sleeping around and, worrying if I had HIV...no thanks! The 'fun road' comes at a painful cost!
I always understood the song as the last words of a dying man who reflects his past life. and when he's dead he gonna see his mother, father and and old friends again.
one of the most beautiful traditionals ever and the johnny cash version is amazing!!
@humminalong It may or may not be, the trouble with folk music is that you can never tell what the original song lyrics were about. It could have originally been a man far away from home (from war or working) singing about wanting to go home. The original lyrics have most likely changed over time, even the original melody most likely.
When I sing the song, I think of both wanting to go home and spirituality personally.
@curiousgeorge555 Yes, a great song.........God created all people of all colors....to me it is simply tremendously "Spiritual".........Bless you.........
piano is AMAZING here...I really like this arrangement as well; it's no better or worse than Johnny Cash, just different. I like both for different reasons. :)
i luv this song i luvluvluv it! omgosh i think that the piano is amazing and that the song is great im hopein that me and my duet partner will sing this 4 a competition! :)
some of you people are crazy..why put responses down like these to a gospel song..with bad language..there are many versions of this song and different lyrics as well..who cares..everyone ive heard praises the LORD..the words and chords on this one are the same way ive played it for years
Can't really call it a "Jack White Song"..I like his version too. very traditional, the way it has been sung in the mountains for years....But this song was beint "ruined" before Jack's grandfather was born.
Have you ever done any reading about this song??? It was first passed from person to person by word of mouth, not written. Do your home work, alot of people have sang it differant ways, and i think he did a good job.

The contract entered into with any god of your choosing is very simple and always the same.
You agree that one day you must die to go and be with your god.
That is the pact that is made.
No one said you had to die but your god.
Death is eternity in the Sun, the blazing lake of fire, where all excess energy in this Solar System is drawn by gravitational pull.
This includes human life force energy when released from the body at death.
Therefore it is unwise to follow the religious to god.

@royboy56100 Yes you have a free will choice of giving up Natures gift to you of eternal life for believing in god.
The main pllar of any religion is that you ust one day die to go and be with your god.
All religion requires slavery and death.
Religion is totally and completely against Nature.
Too bad for you.

volvobilbe 1 year ago
@volvobilbe God was nothing more than a human being who made slaves and claimed to be the creator of all things.
For this, Nature put god where all things are created, the Sun.
The only `life` after death is in the Sun, where all energy in this Solar System goes, back to its source. Hence the term Solar System.
You may choose beforehand- eternal life with Nature in this garden or eternal death with god, the devil, in the Sun.

@akiracunninham I take it you are already an Eva fan. Have you ever heard Eva's other version of "Wayfaring Stranger" on the "Live at Pearls" cd. A more traditional take on the song, just Eva and her guitar, but every bit as awsome!!!

Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest and least productive industries in history.

so what. does anyone else's beliefs or "concepts" intrude on your life and hinders you from enjoying life?
pstock426 1 year ago
Not at all! I find life more enjoyable with Christ in my life. I became a believer at 24 years old...I had plenty of time to take the 'fun road' which I found myself drinking (partying), sleeping around and, worrying if I had HIV...no thanks! The 'fun road' comes at a painful cost!

I always understood the song as the last words of a dying man who reflects his past life. and when he's dead he gonna see his mother, father and and old friends again.
one of the most beautiful traditionals ever and the johnny cash version is amazing!!

humminalong 1 year ago
@humminalong It may or may not be, the trouble with folk music is that you can never tell what the original song lyrics were about. It could have originally been a man far away from home (from war or working) singing about wanting to go home. The original lyrics have most likely changed over time, even the original melody most likely.
When I sing the song, I think of both wanting to go home and spirituality personally.

Can't really call it a "Jack White Song"..I like his version too. very traditional, the way it has been sung in the mountains for years....But this song was beint "ruined" before Jack's grandfather was born.

This song, regadless of its uncertain origin, is the most perfect witness to Christ I have ever heard.
I get such a blessing each time I hear it...by whom-ever...but especially by Selah.
