Beverlee's voice is almost a "white" version of Eartha Kitt's Catwoman . One thing that creeped me out about the Rachel/Mac/Iris triangle was the tone of incest. No matter who Iris targetted and demonized, I thought about the lengths she would go and think to myself, "These super rich people are RELENTLESS!" . And this was years before prime time villains like JR Ewing or Alexis Colby. Growing up, I was used to Liz' snobby attitude and Rachel's seductive ways and lying. Iris was a cut above !
ANOTHER WORLD was then what MAD MEN is now! Only AW was a masterpiece masquerading as a SOAP OPERA! Didn't Iris prophecy/mirror the Watergate scandal before it actually happened. ANOTHER WORLD is an important artistic achievement for the 1970s. I just wish we could could get this Golden Age on DVD. I fear it has been lost forever.
ANOTHER WORLD was then what MAD MEN is now! Only AW was a masterpiece 5 for days of the week! Didn't Iris prophecy/mirror the Watergate scandal before it actually happened. Harding LeMay boughts about how he didnt use murders, etc to they way people die or leave them with intrigue. Has anyone read 8 Years in Another World? great book
omg. this is amazing! Bev looks so much older in the early 70's than in the later 70's. Iris was so different then Carmen Duncan's portrayal of her. This was AW's hayday
Tragic, but almost a dejavous. Terese (Carol's mom) passes away alone on a chaise lounge on Iris' patio, while a year earlier, Mary Matthews perishes the same way on a chaise lounge, I THINK it was at Steve & Alice's house in St. Croix. No murder mysteries, no hospital flatlines, just elegant cozy outdoor peaceful atmospheres. What a way to leave this wretched world .
This scene and this entire episode is superior to any scene on any soap these days. When people read and hear about the golden days of Another World, this is a sterling example. Just to see the power of Beverlee and Doug is all anybody needs to see about the impact a soap can have on its viewers. This episode is outstanding every way you look at it
Oh, the amazing Beverlee...I love seeing every scene she's in. What a treat this 1976 episode is. Also, I remember having a little crush on Laurie Heineman, lol. This is great stuff!!!
How wonderful to have this lasting legacy to the most unique father-daughter relationship in daytime television's history. Both Douglass Watson and Beverlee McKinsey are sorely missed. Now if only I could remember all the evil things the character of Iris did to Clarice.
If you want to know I know everything Iris did to Clarice and to Rachel! My memory of "Another World" at this time is very vivid, so if you need info let me know!

From July 20, 1976~November 22, 1976 *Therese Lamont* was portrayed by Nancy Marchand {aka *Livia Soprano*}
Also, a chance to see Laurie Heineman...the original *Sharlene*
Thanks *sayno* for these gems!
