  • Beautiful song!

  • WHY IS THERE A DISLIKE BUTTON?!!?!

  • Am I the only person seeing GLaDOS in the picture?

  • @MrXlisam it is glados, squint your eyes and youll make out the shape of her head

  • Yeah - the song is haunting. I also wanted to take the radio in Portal with me!

  • They create a whole song and hide the radio in a corner somewhere... love it!

  • 1 Dislike? I didn't know GLaDOS uses youtube :D

  • Listen to this and Rainymood at the same time. Wow.

  • This is a fucking great song.

  • This is the only band I'm not pissed off about people learning about it from a video game.

  • @nhcre8tv1 That kind of thing pisses you off? I mean, poverty I could understand. Environmental destruction, political corruption, sure. But people learning about music from video games? I don't get that.

  • @Proggost NOt THAT kind of pissed off...

  • @Proggost He must've dropped his hipster glasses on the way over here

  • @DanJoeProductions97 i have to agree with you...

  • @ChinaTrip2011 Thanks for understanding. I'm tired of seeing them everywhere. Just don't do it again, ok? :)

  • @DanJoeProductions97 to be honest it is the first kind of comment iv done, iv seen them before but i swear thats the first and last :)

  • @ChinaTrip2011 I'm glad. I take back what i say. Have a good day mister.

  • @DanJoeProductions97 and to you too sir

  • Beautiful song for a beautiful game

  • So I totally liked The National before they went mainstream.

  • @DuckyDos They're not even remotely mainstream. Make more pretentious troll comments though.

  • @DuckyDos hipster.

  • @DuckyDos annoying bitch

  • 1 person has not played portal 2

  • yea i double checked,

if you want to see it it is in chapter 2: the cold boot

    chamber 3

when you enter the chamber turn right and there will be a small area below normal ground level.

on the wall it will say "too many variables"

behind you there will be a radio playing it.

tell me if you found it!

  • I found this song through Portal 2. I listened to it 5 times end to end just because it is an AMAZING song!!

  • 1 People got Suckers Luck

  • Damn the destruction fields. I can't bring this radio, I can't bring the final still alive radio, I can't bring the different turret. I just want to bring my companions along for the ride. Besides the freaking gnome in episode 2 why doesn't valve allow us to take things throughout the game. Like in HL2 I tried to bring dog's rollermine with me throughout the game, sadly you can't teleport with it. Same can be said with the friendly turrets in HL2. Why Valve why, fuck gnome chompski.

  • Huh, now everyone who has never played Portal 2 and likes this song anyway will be confused by every one of these comments.

  • its one thing to find and listen to this song on youtube, but it's completely different when you find it in portal. Because it's human.

The piano, the strings, the VOICE; there's just something so touching about finding one thing unmistakably human that you can completely relate to in that "steel jungle".

  • @PokefanLoojopop

You're absolutely right. And it isn't just that song! Exm: I didn't know about Portal until a year after Still Alive xbla. I discovered the game by stumbling over the cake recipe on youtube, and then finding the song. I didn't think much of it at all, even thott it was kinda silly... But when I heard it in game. And the idea of GLaDOS singing to me clicked, the charm and wonder spiked. Something about the atmosphere about this game that makes ordinary things amazing.

  • @Mickeyman25 When I heard the game (portal 2) leaked, I made sure I didn't spoil it for mehself. Made 'Only want you gone' and this masterpiece so much better and meaningful.

  • What a great song

  • Thanks Valve.

  • Beautiful...

  • For those wondering, the file name is sp_a2_dual_lasers_r1.wav

  • @HamburgerExplosion THANK YOU! I have been waiting for somebody to find it lol I checked but I had no idea it would be named such an awkward name.

  • @TIWIH777 If you look at the art in the room where you find the radio you see the lyrics (and thereby the name). Searching the lyrics brings it up quickly enough, but I bet it was harder to find before. I'm betting Portal made this song ridiculously popular.

  • I love the song, but you have had to read the comic "Lab rat" to understand it.

    oh and R.I.P.

    Pr.Rattman

rest forever...and wake up to a friend

  • @shakenmikeg14

    Agreed, poor ratman

  • @shakenmikeg14

Rattman didn't die though. He wakes up and leaves the portal gun for you. He lives through Portal 2 and you can hear him in the walls in one of his rat holes.

  • @topdod Did i say he died? or did i say REST and i guess he did wake up to a friend :) didnt he?

  • When I realized that the singer was saying the things written on the wall, I freaked out and threw the radio through the emancipation grill. I didn't realize till later that the Rat Man had just been writing out the lyrics and there was nothing creepy about it. >.>

  • what album is this song on?

  • Dude, what's with everyone calling this hipster? The National is a big, well-known and popular band, not obscure or "you-may-not-have-heard-of-it".

So shut the fuck up and enjoy this great song.

  • The song was wouldn't be sucking your dick alright.

  • a songs a song just cause some people thing its for hipsters dont mean non hipsters hate it, for what its worth this is an awesome song

  • I love Lab Rat. Even without that song.

  • @hackneo64

If it's in portal 2, it will become popular. Ergo, it will no longer be hipster. Q.E.D.

  • I carried the radio with me throughout that chamber, and I took my damn time doing it just so I could hear the whole thing.

  • For some reason I like this song better with the faded radio quality from the game... could just be the day-old nostalgia talking, though. Still, brilliant song.

  • such a chilled nice song!!

  • @FreakingPikaChuuu How many hipsters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

I don't know maybe its some obscure number nobody knows.

  • @hackneo64 i didnt say fuck off to defend hipsters i said fuck off to defend the music, if you choose not to listen to something simply based on who else listens to it, youre a fucking moron and dont deserve to listen to it anyway

  • @FreakingPikaChuuu Sorry, didn't mean to thumbs down!

  • Thumbs up if Hutch brought you here

  • Is the Portal 2 credits song on iTunes?

  • Comment removed

  • I would like this at my funeral, its sad but there's a hint of hope.

  • Was this song actually written for the game?

Because as far as I know, before Portal 2 came out this song didn't exist.

  • @JonnysToyRobot It was written for the game, yes.

  • @GenBadGuy thanks.

  • This song is so beautiful. It was so depressing finding the ratmans hideout with this song... makes you think about the poor guy. Portal is so great.

  • where is the radio, missed it =(

  • all likes so far, sound about right, but not as amazing as the song

  • I missed it completely during my first playtrough, when I suddenly saw this song listed in the credits and was like -the f*ck, how did I miss that-

    Found it now ;)

  • Absolutely beautiful. This band never stops making perfect music.

  • Hutch sent me here :-D

  • @a55a5ain789 no he didnt it was just in a video he made

  • @xelacrypt Shame you feel that way. For me, I like this song a lot!

  • @Darthcaboose87 i am still playing through, but i hope that the ending will be as striking as the first one. you know, with cake, science and death

  • @xelacrypt Original? What are you referring to?

  • @SgtCortez15 a little game called porta. It was around in the 90ies, and if you search YT for a song called "still alive" you can feel the difference in spirit.

  • @xelacrypt The problem here, is that you're comparing the credit song of the first game (Not released in the 90's by the way) to a song you just happen to come across in the beggining of Portal 2. It's not supposed to have the same feeling.

  • @SgtCortez15 i am comparing the only song in portal to a song which i found in portal 2 and I say that for me the atmosphere in Portal is pretty much defined by Still Alive

  • @xelacrypt Woaw, know your fact dude, portal 1 wasn't release in the 90 but in 2007 with The Orange Box, big difference.

  • @xelacrypt Original song?

  • Portal 2!!

  • When I first came across this song in game, I had to stop to listen to it. It was hard to go past without wanting to take the radio with me, but I know I couldn't. Ironic considering that the radio is now in exile, just like its former owner and Chell.

  • @Wanderer2021 Where in the game do you find this song?

  • @AmbroosVaes Chapter 3: The cold boot, test chamber 3. Its in a small room that drops and it'll be in a corner.

  • @Wanderer2021 You are playing as chell...Shes alive...

  • @TheEjayProductions I never said she was dead, just that she's basically alone in this whole experience.

  • @Wanderer2021 I took the radio with me through the chamber and hoped it would play the song again...

  • This song strikes me as... very deep for Portal 2. After having played the whole game, this makes me feel... really sad that it's over.

  • huh... anyone know what time signature this is? I'm hearing 3/4...

  • @mulletalchemist Definitely 3/4. It's waltzy ballad. :-)

  • heard this on portal 2, just had to hear the whole thing.

  • From albums to b-sides to movie soundtracks, and now videogames? The National don't know how to let up, they can't make a bad song.
