@nhcre8tv1 That kind of thing pisses you off? I mean, poverty I could understand. Environmental destruction, political corruption, sure. But people learning about music from video games? I don't get that.
Damn the destruction fields. I can't bring this radio, I can't bring the final still alive radio, I can't bring the different turret. I just want to bring my companions along for the ride. Besides the freaking gnome in episode 2 why doesn't valve allow us to take things throughout the game. Like in HL2 I tried to bring dog's rollermine with me throughout the game, sadly you can't teleport with it. Same can be said with the friendly turrets in HL2. Why Valve why, fuck gnome chompski.
its one thing to find and listen to this song on youtube, but it's completely different when you find it in portal. Because it's human.
The piano, the strings, the VOICE; there's just something so touching about finding one thing unmistakably human that you can completely relate to in that "steel jungle".
You're absolutely right. And it isn't just that song! Exm: I didn't know about Portal until a year after Still Alive xbla. I discovered the game by stumbling over the cake recipe on youtube, and then finding the song. I didn't think much of it at all, even thott it was kinda silly... But when I heard it in game. And the idea of GLaDOS singing to me clicked, the charm and wonder spiked. Something about the atmosphere about this game that makes ordinary things amazing.
@Mickeyman25 When I heard the game (portal 2) leaked, I made sure I didn't spoil it for mehself. Made 'Only want you gone' and this masterpiece so much better and meaningful.
@TIWIH777 If you look at the art in the room where you find the radio you see the lyrics (and thereby the name). Searching the lyrics brings it up quickly enough, but I bet it was harder to find before. I'm betting Portal made this song ridiculously popular.
Rattman didn't die though. He wakes up and leaves the portal gun for you. He lives through Portal 2 and you can hear him in the walls in one of his rat holes.
When I realized that the singer was saying the things written on the wall, I freaked out and threw the radio through the emancipation grill. I didn't realize till later that the Rat Man had just been writing out the lyrics and there was nothing creepy about it. >.>
For some reason I like this song better with the faded radio quality from the game... could just be the day-old nostalgia talking, though. Still, brilliant song.
@hackneo64 i didnt say fuck off to defend hipsters i said fuck off to defend the music, if you choose not to listen to something simply based on who else listens to it, youre a fucking moron and dont deserve to listen to it anyway
@SgtCortez15 a little game called porta. It was around in the 90ies, and if you search YT for a song called "still alive" you can feel the difference in spirit.
@xelacrypt The problem here, is that you're comparing the credit song of the first game (Not released in the 90's by the way) to a song you just happen to come across in the beggining of Portal 2. It's not supposed to have the same feeling.
@SgtCortez15 i am comparing the only song in portal to a song which i found in portal 2 and I say that for me the atmosphere in Portal is pretty much defined by Still Alive
When I first came across this song in game, I had to stop to listen to it. It was hard to go past without wanting to take the radio with me, but I know I couldn't. Ironic considering that the radio is now in exile, just like its former owner and Chell.
Beautiful song!

when you enter the chamber turn right and there will be a small area below normal ground level.
on the wall it will say "too many variables"
behind you there will be a radio playing it.
tell me if you found it!
