Always the same shit - Pink Floyd could tour with exorbitant big equipment but ELP were the bad boys with a love for gigantism. What about all the so called super groups like the Stones or the Who? What about today´s shows? In direct comparison ELP´s equipment was pretty undersized. - Oh, they had 3 trucks! What a shame. Genesis had over ten during their last world tour.
This bullshit was launched by the press that could not stand ELP´s music but these prejudices still stick on them.
Agreed, but I think there was a point where ELP were taking a full orchestra around with them on tour. I remember an interview with Emerson in which he said they were kicking themselves for doing that during the tour. They also lost a ton of money on that tour. Of course bands don't lose money touring these days - I believe Rush are charging $500 a ticket for their Moving Pictures reprise at Gibson Amphitheatre in L.A.
Yes, they lost a lot of money touring with an orchestra due to the restrictions of the American musicians union and due to the fact that they were the very first to do that - so there were no experiences at all.
Today it became pretty normal and of course noone talks about it. Jethro Tull, Yes and many others did it - but again: ELP are the bad boys ovedoing everything.........
what else can a critic say..they cant play?...so they always rant on something that no one cares about.
