  • It's refreshing to hear such an talented and well respect musician with an Australian accent.

  • @popothedragon Not so much refreshing as much as confusing.

  • What channel and programme is this from? SVT I guess?

  • The best interviews with Nick Cave are when he is not discussing his work. He is so honest in his interviews that it is always much funnier when he is discussing something non work related. I find him extremely funny, but he always tenses up when it comes to discussing his work...it must be so boring and repetitive for him. I mean, I fucking hate it when people ask me about my work, but imagine being asked about it 35 times in one day? I don't care how interesting your work is.

  • Who is this moron interviewing this genius? I think Nick is being too polite here, and hes demonstrating a lot of fortitude and patience during this interview. I would've slapped the idiot by the 3rd question.

  • i resent what he says about [musicians]....he's just talking about [songwriters]......real musicians have to practice diligently at their instruments every day and its alot of work.

  • You just cant be fucked ,classic

  • it amazes me how different his singing voice is from his speaking voice; his singing voice makes him sound as if he has a 3rd testicle lol.

  • Klart det är per sinding Larsen. Hans röst är svår att missa!

  • What a very Swedish interviewer :D

  • Wanker!

  • I enjoyed this interview very much ^^ nick is cool

  • Please someone, make a 5 minute video of Nick Cave going "Lamp, standing lamp? "Lamp, standing lamp? "Lamp, standing lamp? "Lamp, standing lamp? "Lamp, standing lamp?"

  • Är det Per Sinding som intervjuar?

  • @88stooge ja. så jävla dålig engelska :) "it was funny because...", "it's funny, our national..."

  • "It's got a wing-backed couch thing in the middle...I don't actually lie on it very much, I always think 'I should lie down on that', but I never get to do that..." :D

  • Confession: I don't smoke because of Nick Cave. Don't wanna look foolish like anyone else, 'cos no one'll ever be able to light a cigarette with so much class and cool-ness. Period.

  • @araglar101 Except maybe Clint Eastwood in the Dollars trilogy. Though technically that's a cigar...

  • thanks for posting.

  • lord, he's a truly methodic genius

  • his voice musically is so goddamn powerful and american sounding but here its so unbelievebly accented and reserved. its amazing

  • i gotta get me an office like a cut rate psycho analyst from florida

  • ...anda leather armchair with a.... whatever you call that..... a lamp.

    Awesome.

  • He is brilliant!

    and 3:20 - 3:32

"...try not to jump out the window..." thats why I love hm so much :D

  • @MrsHolysinny I know this has nothing to do with the interview but----how do you make the hyperlink to go to a certain part of the video? Like you did in the post I am replying to? I appreciate the help.

  • @lilyslimit Hi:-) just watch the video and note the time below the clip. The point that interests you : just write the numers with a colon like this 3:20

Then it should be set :-) (sry for my bad english)

  • Isn't it funny how mainstream musicians today haven't led interesting lives, Nick cave however has a really interesting life i could listening to him telling me about it for hours...

  • What a brilliant man!

  • ha with that.. whatever you call it.. a lamp

  • Bizarely, I never though Nick Cave would have an Autralian accent, particularly not a rising inflection. Hmmmm...I guess my reaction to this this is an exemplar of that impulse we have to think art comes from something outside of the artist.

  • Kinda looks like Hugo Weaving.

  • @PeripheralSenses

Hmm, they do sort of have a resemblance. Maybe it's an Australian thing. :) They're both brilliant at what they do nonetheless.

  • "I always think, I must lie on that, but I never get..to...do...that."

  • Noo... I think that the chair is only creaking or something.

  • does he fart at 1:40??

  • I think it is for the Swedish channel 4. Maybe before Grinderman release, judging from his baldspot and absence of mustach..

  • Done in 2003, the year before Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus. :)

  • Hi, could anyone tell me for what show/channel this was filmed and when it was broadcast? Cant seem to find out anywhere!

  • He should have appeared in

Coffee & Cigarettes (Jim Jarmusch, 2003)

  • YES! Definitely. I'm now thinking who would be great to see opposite him.... ooh.. maybe Elvis Costello? I would pay a lot to witness a conversation between those two!

  • That's a fantastic idea! Imagine Cave & Waits...!

  • you must be kidding!

  • Nick cave doesn't fart, hes a god!

  • LOL.

    amusing comment.

    and yes he is indeed.

  • @ijustsigneduptobagu

Oh, but he does. He's probably followed through & painted the brown butterfly on his seat, a few times down the years.........happens to us all at some point or other, especially after a bad jar of ale, or curried food, etc.

  • @RedBryn i think thats the funniest comment ive read on youtube. i tip my hat to you..

  • @jcarter1982 ; - )

  • @ijustsigneduptobagu Must be that tobacco rolling machine that made this fart-like noise.

    And yeah, Cave's a genius

  • @ijustsigneduptobagu Nick Cave couldn't exist as he does if he didn't shit, piss, come, bleed, hate, love and, yes, fart. What makes him amazing is how human the guy is.

  • Haha lamp and couch... hard words to remember. Cute.

  • Nick Cave's accent = orgasm :D

  • Silly question but does anyone know what kind of tobacco he uses to roll his smokes and if he uses a rolling machine?

  • I doubt Cave uses a machine.

  • there's no way that's hand-rolled.

  • It is, you see him lick the rolled tobacco. Rolling machines only require you to like the paper.

  • Man his accent is awesome, I wish I could sound like that.

It's like a general accent leaning towards broad which has partially disappeared towards some sort of 'neutral' accent.

Maybe I should move to London for a few years.

  • Where are you from jonberg? He just sounds like some regular guy; he's just talking.

  • I'm from Melbourne, actually he grew up about 2km from my house which is kind of cool.

  • @jonberg

no...its just a normal Australian accent..

  • Much respect Nick Cave.

  • genius

  • roll ups! oh nicholas my love for you still grows

  • just the way he's smoking and drinking tea is too cool.

  • Nick Cave = God.

  • cool the way he pauses and thinks about his awnser, its refreshing compared to the many generic awnsers people give :D

  • nick seems like a really nice guy. you just know he has a million funny storys to tell.

  • Nick always seems to be an interesting and polite interviewee. He's living proof that one can be an interesting personality without acting like a jerk or being hilariously dumb.

The interviewer should have organized his brain and his papers.

It's an added nicety that they started the interview by talking about my favorite playwright and the greatest dramatist of them all, August Strindberg.

  • the interviewer lacked alot of personality and charisma, but Nick is really cool.

  • I do feel a little sorry for the interviewer though, since he's off camera the whole time, and doesn't seem to be mic'd very well. It must have been hard for him to be charasmatic when he was basically functioning as a human cue card, giving Nick prompts on what to talk about. :P

Personally, I think the clip would have been better served if they had just dropped the interview idea altogether, given Nick some topics to cover ahead of time, and then let him loose with the camera. :P

  • yeah thats true. Its perfect english with aussie accent. Classy.

  • I love Nick and his work to death, but I'd hate to have to interview him. He comes off as very serious and scholarly, and I would be seriously fucking intimidated.

Ah well. He's probably a really nice guy to interview, and I'm just being swayed by my awe of him. :P

  • I agree.

  • quite a serious bloke isn't he?

hard to believe this is the same man from the birthday party....

  • He looks like Ray Stanz from the Ghostbusters after busting way to many ghosts.

  • He does come across more like an author than a musician. He's great!

  • nice interview

  • Great video!

  • like most creative people, eccentric but talented, hope it inspires other people!

  • he is sooo sexy

  • Lol, yeah! But it does happen.

  • It's definately there... Did you expect crocodile dundee? He sounds like a standard educated aussie to me.

  • Ehh accent wise he's normal. But very few Aussie's speak that formally.

  • I'm not so into Australian accents ;) But my guess traveling all over the world and working with so many different people must have an effect at his accent...

  • He has no accent, he's almost above all that. I assumed he was British for years

  • Balls. He sounds like he's from Melbourne and lived in England for a bit. Oh, wait...

  • Nick cave grew up in Australia, his parents are Aussies

  • Is it opium tea he drinks there?

  • Should be added that Cave lives in London. Or at least lived there for a long time..

  • GENIUS..the australian accent is there.. i can hear it...

    tender prey baby!!wah wah

  • sounds like a aussie to me! he has a southern australian accent, there are more than one aussie accent in australia belive it or not, people from the sydney accent sound like steve "crikey" irwin people from victoria sound like this /\ x

  • That's what Australians talk like. Not like Steve Irwin.

  • it sounds pretty australian..

  • Can Somebody please put up some more Cave interviews?? I know he doesn't do many but someone must have more. Good Interviews though, Very nice to this bloke in this. I think Nick is a great songwriter man. And he seems quite friendly here

  • the guy is scared. Nick DESPISES journalists. As he fancies himself the writer (Lou Reed), he thinks he'd do a better job. I've seen he and Harvey in action and they still have an edge of "Tracy Pew kicking you in the face" to em. Finally some 'tubers with some taste. Nick is wonderful.

  • Lou Reed's the shit they was in some argument on one of his videos about nick cave so I checked it out

  • Nick is diffently a cultured man

  • I remember having read a Tom Waits interview in which he says, that European and American intervewers always have the same type of questions. This interviewer prooves him wrong.

  • The interviewer might not have been the most entustiatic ever, but he had good and well formulated questions... I found the interview interesting... but maybe not that entertaining ;)

  • Receing Hairline!!! WHAT'S GOING!?!?!? WHY SO OLD?!?!?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • Singer gets quickly bored by fawning interviewer.

  • Talk all night, Nick... I'm hanging in there... You're so righteous.

  • On behalf of Swedes, I would like to apologize for the unreasonably uncharismatic interviewer.

  • Baronessa... no need to apologize. The interviewer could be a two year old glass of water, and I'd still watch. It's Nick for Chrissakes!!

  • Nick Cave rocks.

  • have you seen/read it before?

  • thanks for the tip.

  • i didn't have a problem with the interviewer's english or his questions. he seemed to have a reasonable sort of rapport with cave (better than with other interviews i've seen)

this interview really just lifts my opinion of nick sky high. wish i could find his love song thesis somewhere.

  • mb you can order his recording of the lecture-- secret life of the love song --from amazon book is out of print

  • That's quite a good lecture, if a little overly-intense at times. The second lecture on the CD - The Flesh Made Word - is quite good.

  • Very enjoyable and relaxed interview, i'd say.

  • stop bugging, u English natives ? just let it go

  • this is great....this is what raw footage looks and sounds like from most interviews being taped...they'll probably use 3-5 minutes of this and intercut it w/ whatever else....unless of course it's 20/20 interview where the journalist expressions are so canned and timed just right and it's a three camera shoot....those are the pathetic interviews.

    thanks for posting this!

  • I think he's good in English, as are many Swedes. He isn't the greatest interviewer. In fact, I can bearly use the word interviewer as a description of this pondlife reporter.

  • yeh i cant watch it because its such a pain for him( Cave)!! talking with this guy who should prepare a bit more his english before!!!!al this stupid cuestions which
