Nobody does it like the wolf - he was the real deal. Honestly the best in the business - and well loved as well. His voice can make a good girl think some bad thoughts.
I saw him in the sixties on the uk folk blues tour with sonny boy and a host of other greats and he was awesome. It was a big venue - wudda been better in a small club but - hey - who's complaining.
In the Keith Richards book he says that the first time he saw Brian Jones, Brian was playing this song. So of course I had to check it out.
Lo and behold, there's Howlin' fukking Wolf doing it. There is NO ONE more awesome and just ....well everything...than this guy. He's so massive that the harmonic looks like a pitch pipe in his mouth. RIP Howlin, RIP Brian...you are my close friends in this idle chaos called life.
ya' need to understand TWO things about this song... FIRST this was a Robert Johnson Classic... Howlin' Wolf Rips it up ! and SECOND .. "dusting your broom" means leaving your woman.. it's from the days of boarding houses, when one was expected to clean the place when they leave
what an awesome find.. thanks for posting this !!
Robert Started everything.. and Howlin' was in my humble opinion, one of the, if not the very best !
@rjanis123 robert didn't start everything. his mythology is just that, myth created by people who have never set foot in the delta and are clueless about all the musicians of the region. robert johnson has his place, but really now, the blues does not start or stop with him.
Their all out of tune and shit. Cracks me up. Howlin Wolf right on the money though. If it wasn't for alcohol, what fun would we have. Dancin' with the girls, drinking with the boys and Howlin' at the moon.
Great video. Man! them good ole days just too long away. Worst thing you had to worry about was being home on time for dinner. Cause if you wasn't, you didn't get none. She just be bitchin' and moanin' all night long and not cause you gettin' some. Where you been, why you be out so late!!!
@1johnlangford2 they actually normally tuned to the piano, so the piano would play each string)ie a E,A,D,G,and B,E for the guitar) so the piano probably wasn't that great there.
My friend Wolf reached out from his unique spirit, helping others get more in touch with their own. BB King said " I’m telling you, I’ve never heard anybody sing like Wolf did that night. He sang so well till I almost cried. He was one of a kind. Nobody I heard before him or after him has had that fantastic delivery, that certain something in his voice that seemed like a sword that’d pierce your soul when he’d sing ... To my mind, he’s one of the greatest ever. We’ll never see another like him!"
I never realised this was about tidying up - thought it was about having a wank - you learn something every day! HW has an amazing voice which always sounds to me like it has to fight its way out of his throat. Saw him on thr Folk Blues tour back in the sixties - he was sensational.
The song tittle reminds me of the african wedding tradition where the couple would jump accross a broom , so called black people whom I know good and well are israelites should give up silly tradition and unify with us whites more in music.
Happy upcoming birthday Wolf, my dear friend, music teacher and photographic collaborator. I plan to release our two original songs (my harp lessons) this year... You'll never be dead Wolf, keep on Howlin'. Sandy Guy Schoenfeld
black people rejected blues when it came out, a shame really, if only the black folk in america had supported their blues artists, how many black people have probably gone through the years without ever picking up a guitar, u never know, there could have been another howling wolf out there somewhere, instead we have hip hop and rap. black people grab a guitar and see if you got it.
@shayanaali how can you say "black people rejected blues when it came out" when all of the blues artist where black? Plus you have to remember the average Black had little or no monies or a phonograph to play anything on. Radio or Juke was the only way we got to hear it. The Holy Rollers didn't like it much but they were the minority of the Minority. That's like saying that whites rejected the Beatles because some stations refused to play "that music" from those kids with long hair.
obviously it doesn't get any bluesier-or better-than this. However, I was also interested to see Hubert Still kind of moves his head the same way when he plays today. Btw I'm not saying anything negative bc I think the world of these performers.
I used to work with Noel....never paid much attention to it...but guys like that also were rhythm guitarists...Noel was. Betcha this guy was as well....listen to hendrix and you can hear him playing chords. Phil Lesh in the Dead used to do it, too...not sure exactly where on video you can see it...I used to watch Noel doing it every day.

You did nice song but my feeling Blues was of that era The same can be said about Punk being the 70s and 80s. I guess there will be a young generation to replicate Chet Atkins guitar but would it be real Country western or just imitation. In other words you can play like Robert Johnson but can you play like toboulore.
@J5MARLON 1st of all,"toboulore" is my channel's nickname, not an artist.i'm not the one to tell if Hazy's playing and singing is original.you are free to explore my channel and listen to his songs, and you can make your own opinion about his overall performance, considering that this guy isn't even american.and plz name ONE musician who is not influenced or even replicating somebody else's technics.it's a chain reaction...but if you think he's just a replica...well,who am i to change your mind?
@JohnBohnam223 Are you serious? theres huge influence Hip Hop even samples alot of soul, funk, and blues all of them have similiar song structure, and subject matter (women, pain, money, etc.) dont just look at Soulja Boy and think thats Hip Hop theres a huge list of similiarities
I though early rap sampled 60's and 70's rock? and even 80's rock. Bands like Def Leppard, Nazareth, or blues rock....frankly I don't think blues musicians ever want to be associated with that....they didn't even want to be associated with rock and roll.

Interesting comments here on blues and on rap.The blues has always been about
the spirit and reflection of the human
condition. For many today, that is what
Rap represents. And although I dont care much for Rap for my own musical tastes,
I must agree.
