This is definitely awesome footage by Roger, and in fact this is the first video footage of a tornado I've seen, there there has been multiple lightning strikes occuring inside the tornado, that is visible in the debris cloud.

i live in the united states, and i agree mostly with what you're saying. in the videos where there's no houses getting destroyed, i find the tornadoes are very cool and I also think it would be fun to storm chase. but when you see people's houses, lives, and everything ripped to pieces, most people don't understand... they're just like "Oh no! That House! It's Destroyed!" they dont even think about how terrable the reality of it really is.

@rockeruss555 If you mean a state that has a good amount of tornadoes, it would be Colorado, then New Mexico. But if you even decide to come to either, you would in most cases need to be very close to the Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas borders. The eastern side of Colorado and New Mexico has some good chase days each year. Wyoming has some good chase days also, but it's next to Montana.

@dragonridley Back building is an actual term. I can't remember How they used it in the twister movie. When ever a storm, tornado, or storm system is growing fast, if you're on the backside, it can appear that the storm is coming back your way even though it is actually going away from you. The backside grows out towards you, so it appears to change direction when in truth it never did. Although I would use expanding or widening or maxing out for a tornado instead of backbuilding.

If they used it that way, they got it wrong for sure. Been so long since I saw that movie. There was one movie I saw on TV a couple years back using hurricane images taken by satellite to supposedly be a supercell thunderstorm in the movie. It was beyond rediculous. There are satellite images of supercells, so they could have used those for the movie instead of a hurricane with a well definded eye. I just laughed at the movie.

@ralphie2584463 EF5 don't necessarily translated to an F5 on the old scale. In fact, a lower-level EF5 is about the same as an upper-level F3.

The scale is based on damage, not windspeed though. F5 and EF5 damage are the same, the windspeed estimates have just been adjusted to what scientists believe to be more accurate.

Well, EF winds tend to be less than F ones so it is possible that it converts to an F4. But it doesn't look like it's that strong from this video... maybe the better parts are left out :(
