Warm rice porridge cooked without sugar, cinnamon and raisons but with a vanilla bean a touch of salt and just half a tablespoon of sugar is traditional Danish Christmas dish. It is eaten warm as I said, topped with cinnamon-sugar and a knob of butter. Very traditional.
With the left over porridge we make Ris'ala'mande - which is the porridge, whipped cream, chopped almonds, served with warm cherry sauce! My fave in the world!
@HotCocoaxD You can add whatever you wish to a recipe, if you want craisons instead of raisins than feel free. I think people add nuts to rice pudding as well, so you could even give that a go.
Indians eat our version of this called "kheer" all the time for dessert. It's served at almost every Indian resturant. The best way to eat Kheer is nice and steaming hot. Also try it with golden raisens and pistachios. That way is the best!
wow i didn't know that your rice pudding was eaten cold. I'm from england and i make our traditional rice pudding (really quite similar) and we always eat it hot! to eat it cold is the unusual part.
be happy to know you'd never be thrown out of anywhere for eating hot rice pudding over here ^__^
i've just found your videos and love them! and already got your app :) x
I think this recipe would be very interesting with the addition of Rose water instead of the vanilla, similar to the mid-eastern dessert drink sahlab.
I'm from Denmark, and in Denmark that, without the cinnamon and the raisins, is called "risengrød" we usually eat it during christmas time, with cinnamon on top instead of in it! and if you cool it and mix it with some chopped skinless almonds and some whippedcream, it's called "risalamande" and is a traditional dessert christmas eve (:
i am from india..................and this our tradional indian dessert and in india its called "Kheer".......liked ur videos and do post some dishes for vegetarians too........:):):)
it's kind of funny how laura keeps saying that this dish has to be served cold. In my home we make a similar dish using coconut milk (fresh squeezed is best) as well as the whole milk and it's always served hot but its considered more of a porridge. Its great comfort food.
i used to have this when i was a baby and when my little brother was born i used to help my mum make it (i was 4 and a half) i love cooking im 12 now but i watch loads of cooking programs and videos i started when i was 2 years old maybe 1 and a bit with the mince pies rolling the pastry out and cutting shape xx ps i love your vids you inspire me xxxx
Laura p-l-e-a-s-e answer ASAP! :) Does the rice HAVEE to be risoto or aborio rice?? please answer asap i'm making this todayy :)) pleasee like so she can see :))
@lazysonglover1 I think its no problem to use other rice. My mom used to use the left-over rice for it and I use whatever kind of rice I have at home. I dont know if risoto or aborio rice tastes better, but with other rice it still tastes good:-)
i know its simple but maybe a tip video on how to make really nice oatmeal... if you dont liek milk i know i ahet milki but i want to eat oatmeal ppl say its helthy :/
You can always eat it warm too. In my culture that's how you make rice with milk and let me tell you how delicious it is on a cold day ooh boy hits the spot but also eating it cold is delicious too!
you know rice pudding is not ONLY supposed to be eaten cold i thought that all around the world they ate it warm in latin america we do atleast were i live and near countries from mine we eat it warm:)
i am so grateful for your youtube videos. All the current recipes are so perfect for the fall and i just love how you post recipes based on the season <3 thanks x10 (^^)
Arroz con dulce in Puerto Rico!! BUt it has more cool stuff, instead of whole milk is made with real coconut milk, cinnamon sticks, butter, sugar, cloves, vanilla, ginger, salt and rice!! But you have to put the rice in a bowl of water and let it over night or for a couple of hours!! And we eat it cold cause it tastes great!! Keep up the good work <3
This might just be the one dish I can't stand, rice pudding. Never understood the love for it. Even with Laura's expertise in cooking I don't think I could ever like it. Still fun watching Laura regardless.
rice pudding is arroz con leche at least for me it has the same ingredients that my family and I do en Puerto Rico.....with some extra different flavors of course but this is like the standard recipe a lot of houses do raisins and all.
@EmelyBD Pense lo mismo que ud, es un version del famoso "arroz con leche" sumandole el plus de que podes poner un piolin con cascara de naranja, limon y una ramita de vainilla asi le da mas sabor.// I thought the same thing as you, is a version of the famous "arroz con leche" adding the bonus that you can put a piolin with orange peel, lemon and a sprig of vanilla that gives more flavor.
Hey Laura, this is how it is made in India too. It is a traditional food for us and we serve it hot. another difference is, we add raisins and chopped almonds at the end as a garnish.
