  • Dessa, I'm somewhat of an expert in getting youtube views, I like your music so I'm willing to lend my skills to your cause. You should put delicious caek in the tags for more views. Trust me, I used to know a guy who's brother went out with this girl for a while, and she had a camcorder, and also a small dog but I forget it's name, but it was pretty small. And I think the camcorder was a Sony or a Sanyo or something. It was kind of pink, but like, shiny metal pink, so if you did that i know.

  • @sharkerzzzz send me a link to your music..

  • This lady is so full of herself, it is hard for me to enjoy her music, for a few moments it sounds good then she starts TRYING to sing and it sounds like a spoiled rich kid trying to be way to hip. She is very annoying. When I hear her talk on the radio it makes me want to SLAP the bogus college look at me I'm so smart rhetoric out of her mouth. Stick to your Student clubs, and keep your dictionary close so you can complete another wastefully complicated and over the top verbal PUKE.

  • @sharkerzzzz Your attempt to troll has failed.

  • @sharkerzzzz Okay there Rick SanTROLLum, are these words too big for you? You sound like a hater who is bitter about not going to college. It blows my mind that people go out of there way to comment on shit they dont like. Why are you even on this page if you think she is "very annoying". Im sure you can just tune into KDWB to hear those repetitive 4 line raps that you obviously love.

  • @sharkerzzzz way to be less than a tool. You type words that of someone afraid of a woman with a brain more than anything else

  • I LOVE this video actually...and the approach you took. Very classy and the vid was visually interesting all the way through. Beautifully shot...beautifully thought. Keep it up!

  • Got an old school sound and a beautiful & REAL voice! LOVE IT!

  • Holy shit... this could shadow Nicki Minaj's big ass with no problem.

  • Hell ya

  • how come this version sounds crazy compared to the one on the CD?

  • the live version sounds better!

  • 0:58 "Where did you say we were headed? Rapture?"

  • @superarisu

    Well played..haha

  • This is really good

  • Thank you, Dessa, for bringing artistic integrity to the world of female rappers.

  • this does not suck

  • Dessa is so brilliant.

  • Flipping awesome :)

  • I also likes this joint :) #TeamSkaterThug

  • I like the clockwork orange reference

  • She can hit so many subtle emotions. Dessa isn't just a musician, she's an actual artist.

  • OMG IM SO GLAD THIS AINT THAT BARBIE SLASH MONSTER VOICE CRUSTY THE CLOWN RAPP..I LOVE U DESSIE IM BUYING EVERY FKING THING U EVER MAKE JUST FOR MAKING MUSIC THAT PPL CAN CONNECT TO AND FEEL SOMETHING ABOUT.THESE OTHER ARTIST ARE SHALLOW EVEN WHEN THEY TRYING TO MAKE SERIOUS MUSIC(MOMENT FOR LIFE)TODAY.THANK U FOR THIS GREAT MUSIC MISS

  • I went to HS with the hot asian chick at 1:11.

  • Not everyone who is famous is talented. She's pretty talented. Excuse me... pretty AND talented.

  • She is so classically beautiful. She could have been a movie star in the 60s

  • Anyone think Dessa is like a white Lauryn Hill?

  • @ItzClobert She's no white but yeah, kinda

  • @ItzClobert No we think Dessa is Dessa.

  • Who ever directed/edited did a phenomenal job. I love the look of black and white cinematography and wish you would have shot the whole thing in black and white. Add in the snow and it would be classic but still the song speaks for itself. Great job, love the early 30's vibe, you totally have that jazz singer look, just missing the bright red lipstick! Really hope you catch on so I can hear more of your creativity and allow listeners to understand hip hop doesn't have to be a rags to riches story

  • this is a great song dessa like ohh emm gee

  • @kbjami, @syffuf25, & @DLineHero - The Clockwork Orange reference (1:23 - 1:27) slipped right past me the first three times I saw this video. Good eye!

    @DavioX596 - LOL

  • she performed this at my school some years ago...last year i think

  • Saw her with doomtree at soundset and at day of dignity yesterday, she did a really good job

  • Клип хорош

  • @crayZsaaron If she sounds like she's from Philly to you, then you must know a lot of people from the midwest in Philly. I live in Philly now, and spent a year and a half in the deep midwest. def midwest

  • wow! cool stuff !

  • After you listen to this, check out Nina Simone - Feeling Good....Great music always comes full circle

  • I love Dessa they visited my school here in MN. When I say they I mean her freind POS, whos also a great artist

  • for some reason, shes the only female artist that i dig. not sure why...

  • So beautiful. Too bad she's too smart to be famous.

  • Is she from Philly? Sounds kinda like it.

  • Its different. Its good.

  • Good music yes hi hop no

  • i wanna go to the blowout!

  • Love you Dessa! Keep it up!

  • doomtree just came to boulder and dessa went harrddd for us... she only did 3 songs cuz she blew her voice out lol. the passion she performs with ive never seen from anyone else before, it was incredible

  • this is hip-hop? sounds more like a mix of singing and spoken word, leaning more toward singing. it's a great song, i just don't understand why it's classified as hip-hop, if anything it should be in some experimental sub-genre with slight hip-hop influences. calling this hip-hop is like labelling Janelle Monae as a classical music composer. and no i'm not saying this because she doesn't sound like Nicki Minaj (i hate her and all mainstream rap)

  • @Cuddlebunzzzz Listen to her other songs.

  • @BurglaryoftheSenses i've listened to her other stuff and i get why those are hip-hop, i just don't get why this specific song is considered that just because she's a hip-hop artist.

  • @Cuddlebunzzzz a mixture of spoken word poetry and singing? oh... you mean hip hop?

  • @fatchickswithbigguns not really. rap is a variation of spoken word, there's no singing in it.

  • Comment removed

  • @papineaun lol i can still see the comment in my inbox even though you removed it. if you're gonna troll you gotta stick with your guns, don't wimp out like a noob.

  • @Cuddlebunzzzz Um...WTF are you talking about? Please refresh my memory. As far as I know I haven't been on this account for over a week, out of state on vacation.

  • @Cuddlebunzzzz I'm not attacking you but i think its dumb to hate a group of musicians just because they are "mainstream" or not. I like musicians for the music. For instance, i went to a brother ali and freeway concert yesterday in MPLS and on the drive there i listened to Eminem and Rick Ross. Good music is good music. It doesn't matter how many or how few people know their names. I do listen to underground/independent rap for the lions share though haha

  • @djwetto63 i don't hate musicians solely because they are mainstream (although my comment made it sound that way), it's just that, based on my experience, the vast majority of mainstream music is terrible. to me if someone's popular there's a good chance they aren't that great, but that doesn't mean they're guaranteed to suck. i like artists like Kanye West and Adele, but even in those cases, their less popular stuff tends to be some of their best work IMO.

  • @Cuddlebunzzzz LOL smh.. dumbass

  • @rfsamigo WOW YOU LAUGHED OUT LOUD, SHOOK YOUR HEAD, AND CALLED ME A DUMBASS!!!! YOU TOTALLY PWNED ME DUDE!!! NO ONE HAS EVER THOUGHT OF A MORE THOROUGHLY BRUTAL INSULT IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!!! YOU ARE A MASTER OF WIT AND A LEGEND AMONG YOUTUBE COMMENTERS!!! THE GODS OF SARCASM MUST HAVE GRANTED YOU THESE POWERS SO THAT YOU COULD INTELLECTUALLY OBLITERATE NOOBS LIKE ME!!! THAT WAS SO HARSH EVEN MY UNBORN KIDS ARE ASHAMED OF ME!!! I NEED TO GO KILL MYSELF NOW BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO AWESOME!!!

  • First female rapper i've heard in a long time that doesn't sound like Nikki Monage or Lil Mama (whatever the hell her name is) and it's fucking boss.

  • @Krizzsek you don't listen to alot of female rappers, do you?

  • 19 people don't know what real music sounds like.

  • Dessa is incredible she's like a less hardcore of Pink with a little Katy Perry and a little style. I'm really impressed.

  • 18 people HATE MUSIC

  • Dessa was amazing at soundset. This cut had everyone in a trance. She sounds even better live.

  • Dessa KILLED at soundest!!!! Top two performances of the entire day

  • Bioshock anyone?

  • Soundset in about 9 hours. Stoked...

  • Sims and Dessa have somethin going on with these animal faces...

  • I really like the video, but I can't see the attraction in the music... I bet just stop there.

  • Love this chick...

  • Take that back, clarinet, no saxophone, final answer.

  • @provendizzy I'm pretty sure its tenor sax and clarinet/alto sax.. I agree though, awesome track regardless.

  • My cousin listened to this song last summer, he said it sucked. Then just two ago he died. You say tradegy, I say justice.

  • i saw you in sf last night. i fell in love with you and lazerbeak. but you a little more;)

  • Awesome....love it, respect from Philly :)

  • so glad i found this video on the root website. just randomly looking for female rappers online and came across this song....the song is so hot! the industry needs to open their eyes and see that there are female lyricists out here and we're holding our own!keep doin what u doin, you have inspired me to do the same!

  • I hate how the comments section always becomes a bunch of people arguing about nothing. Music , like many other things is subjective. Just because it is true for you doesn't mean that other people share your belief. If you like this--cool, I'm glad you do, if you don't then why would you linger around.

  • Anyone catch the Clockwork Orange reference?

  • I just watched this incredibly slick lady perform and she was amazing!

    -Ocian

  • @Ryustushen excuse you, simple ass nigga, shut your mouth

  • @MsMMoretti I wish you would go back to the projects of Compton and put a bullet through your head too, maybe one of those real rappers would make a song about it....

  • @Ryustushen congratulations on making 0 sense

  • @Ryustushen Yes because hip hop is about appearance. No you ignorant idiot, its about content, and substance.

  • I love the sound (guitar?) in the background that reminds me of Stevie Wonder's sound with that funky groove to it!

  • @provendizzy sax

  • @MarijuanaMichelle fucking money..

  • Gotta love the A Clockwork Orange reference.

  • good

  • Dessa fans should check out Upward Spiral on my channel. Minneapolis hip hop is the best in the country.

  • @UpwardSpiral4

DESSA's OFF THE HOOK, AND SO AIN'T THE MINNESOTA SCENE... BUT THE "BEST IN THE COUNTRY" IS A HUGE OVERSTATEMENT. JUST SAYIN..

  • @UpwardSpiral4 That's right. ♥ Twin Cities.

  • @UpwardSpiral4 country? More like world, I'm from Britain and I bump this stuff 24/7!

    Dream come true.

  • Excellent video, great lyrics and music. Look forward to hearing more. You may want to work on the audio quality, it may just be youtube though, I hear cracks and a dubbing sound when putting the audio up. Definitely tellin friends about her.

  • @thekastone im pretty sure the way it sounds is intentional. to kinda give an old timey feeling to it. know what i'm sayin?

  • amazing voice she's got

  • Dessa, we're getting married.

  • @SpairoAce I'll fight you for her.

  • @wesomell you better fight hard. I usually don't believe its worth fighting over a relationship, because in the end she'll choose who she wants regardless but, dessa is totally worth it lol

  • Its so nice to hear someone with talent and to bring something original to the table- Dessa- I love you

  • Please don't feed the trolls. This shit is awesome. Enough said.

  • 1:23 Droogs!!!!

Or since they're women would it be Droogets or something like that?

  • Yeah this bitch is awful. Stop "rapping".

  • dam thats all i can say she can rap!!

  • @mrbrooksy06 pos did a song with her called ants.

  • I'm having a hard time understanding how this video relates to the song. Kickass song though.

  • I feel like this is also what happened to jazz when it became Smooth Jazz.

  • absolutely amazing flow, lets see a calaboration with the rhymesayers crew, everyone deserves it

  • Dope Dessa

    -Bagoly Hip-Hop

  • I'm in love.

  • I love seeing DTR Cameos in all their videos.

  • Nas is such a liar. Hip hop isn't dead it just moved to minnesota. I'll see you fuck ers at the Blowout - Dec. 10th.

  • @brendo432123 FUCK YEA RSE and DTR!!!! 612 stand the fuck up!!!!

  • @brendo432123 AMEN! I have been truly blessed to be living in this state and witness the start of all these groups...It's great to see them start to get the recognition they deserve.

  • @brendo432123 AMEN! I am so sick of listening of the countless albums talking about the bitches, drugs, rims and money. When you listen to Doomtree, Atmosphere, The Brother..Sage - you don't here that shit. You here TRUE lyrical talent - you don't here beats drowning making up that shit. Wake up! Bring up anything from Rhymesayers and sit back, light up and pour yourself a nice drink and relax. This shit is good.

  • @brendo432123 Hiphop did indeed die in certain areas

  • @MPLSTORM certain kinds got weaker, if you wanna be all negative about it. welcome to the world of human evolution... where uhhh.. things change...

  • @brendo432123 To Nas' credit, when he said it... it kind of WAS dead. But that was like 4-5 years ago. Its back.. and im glad this young woman decided to pick up a mic for sure!

  • @brendo432123 but people that respect hip hop and can see the point of view from an mc who originated in the golden era of hip hop and experienced it's roots, understand, at the very least, where he's coming from. and also, hating on that mc and calling him a liar, isn't the right way to go about proving your point.

also, take a tip from dead prez... it's bigger than hip-hop.

and i find it taking an honest and rich new form not only in minnesota, but in seattle, parts of california and dc.

    peace

  • @brendo432123 right right

  • @brendo432123 most of the artist i listen too is from Minnesota

  • mmm learning this on clarinet by ear ill probably beat your 9 lol

  • @EpithicaxXx Thats awsome! I meet her mom at my Senior Party at Maple Grove she was doing stick on tattoos :]

  • You are amazing, not only one of the best female artist but one of the best of all time!

  • I LOVE HER STYLE OF RAPPING ITS UNIQUE

  • Her voice is gorgeous.

  • She's amazing, and so incredibly down-to-earth. No front or better-than-thou attitude from this one, she appreciates all her fans, something I feel like not a lot of artists can say these days. She's also active in our community with music education, and any other charitable event that has to do with encouraging kids to learn more about themselves musically. Keep on truckin girl! We're proud of you!

  • Dessa you rock!!

  • Amazing song and video.

  • I cannot understand this concept of this song..??

    HELP ME!!

  • deh really like this tbh

  • Wow this song is so awful. Dessa is so greatin other songs, why the fuck is she trying to be cristina aguilara in this one?

  • @kmiller812 she's not trying to be like christina aguilera...it's the style of that era.

  • @kmiller812 What are you talking about? I don't understand the reference....I bet Aguilara would never do an artistic video like this and the song isn't even close to what I remember of Aguilara, complete different style.

  • huge fan of the whole doom tree movement , Dessa we love you

  • Beautiful woman that can rap, and that voice is sooo sexy. Goddamn, the perfect woman

  • SAW U LAST NIGHT AT THE GUTHRIE!!!!! AMAZZZINNNGGG
