To all of the girls out there; You do need to take everything off from the waist up! But don't worry, you can request to have a towel to at least cover yourself. My doctor was thankfully very careful not to make me feel over-exposed. The only 'pain' you will feel is from the pressure of the probe. Do not worry about getting this done.
This test is a piece of cake. If you are a female it may get a bit sensitive, but they are professionals who will keep you covered up as much as they can. They do turn the light off most of the time. I have had this test over 10 times in my lifetime. You are awake during this procedure. After you will have the goopy gel on you, They will give you a towel to clean yourself up. They might allow you to bring a friend with you into the room if they are quiet!
Well I am from Mexico but living at San Antonio, TX, I am 40 so when I born these kind of test didn't exist :P Now I will have one achocardio the 26 May (2011) because after my 3th baby did born I had a little complicaction ( the placenta) so I did start felling bad and a the end they send my to cardiology which they said everything was fine with my heart, but recomended the eco, after 2 years I decided togo back at doctor and......he said maybe I have a heart murmur. So God wil be with me.
It's riveting to see your own heart on the monitor screen, to hear the steady thump, thump, and the loud swishing sound. It's awesome when you consider that a heart can pump for as long as 95 to 100 years. It's also a sobering reminder that one day, your heart will stop beating forever. Have a nice day! :)
I just had my echo a couple of days ago. It doesn't hurt really. The gel can be cold, but if you go to a really cool hospital, sometimes they warm the gel for you and that actually feels pretty nice. I'm waiting for results because I was born with a heart murmur and it was pretty loud when my doc heard it through steth. Don't worry though. It's usually over in like 30 min. or so and it really doesn't hurt. P.S. you do have to take off your bra though.
I have one tomorrow and was freaking a bit but this vid has helped and explained so much x fanks x i can chill now lol x p.s...dont wanna take of my bra really lol gross :)
I'm concerned. Apprehensive. Yes I've been having trouble. Non-invasive? Not always based on what I read. Transesophageal ecocardiogram requires a tube down your throat. Stress echocardiogram requires on the spot exercise (eg. treatmill) Intravascular , a catheter in the blood vessel is required. BUT I DON'T KNOW! All I have mentioned in the letter I got today is "ECHO appointment." I'm dragged out.
i'm only 18 so i was at a childrens hospital and they have a tv to keep you calm but i almost always fall asleep except on my stomach
