Jim and Craig have a sort of strange, awkward chemistry. I've only seen Jim interviewed here and on Letterman, but I imagine Craig's show is the only one with an interview format loose enough for him to get halfway-comfortable. He really didn't seem to belong on Letterman at all, but he fits right in with Craig's "who cares, anything goes" environment.

Plus I don't think Craig would try to make him feel like a piece of shit for saying "whore".

But I reckon that Craig wasnt referring to his sexuality, just the fact that Texans seem to be really 'manly', and Jim's reply to me ment that there were enough people there that were also into theatre that he had his own 'theatre group'. He also says in an interview, pretty much that his parents didnt quite approve of him changing his major to theatre.

I think he was more nervous than anything else. It was his first late night appearance and following Craig's unscripted and crazy conversation topics and tangents could throw more experienced actors off their game. If he had done Letterman or Conan's scripted fare he probably would have come off as more "normal"
