At the same time --- i herald my father as my musical leader........i was not aware then i was hearing something ground breaking ........electronic manipulations made transparent by 2 musical geniuses .........Now i am 39 years old and a music producer myself ..........And i have no concept of HOW they did these ambient pastiches ...... Truly amazing .......This album is responsible for me turning out the way i did :)
My father used to play this when he was in a FOUL mood .....Probably because he knew it would freak me and my sister out .....that was around 1979 /80 ......"The flood " truly terrified me, as i spent most of my younger years being dragged round festivals.... and i know what wet festivals are like ..... "maybe if we all start chanting, maybe we can stop this rain ---SSSPPPLLOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHH" ....all drowned .....dead ...........a terrifying image for a 9 year old.
god i discovered these blokes from 'englishman in new york' which i became obsessed with as a kid. i had no idea they were also 10cc who i also love. just watched '5 o'clock in the morning. wow. i cant do another new music obsession and all that involves (at 46). maybe i can, this one might be worth it.......
@boibad12 Exactly! There are just so many awesome and weird sounds to sample. As a producer myself, this stuff always gets me in the mood for playing and fooling around with samples when I hear it :D
@boibad12 How mistaken are u????? My father played this to death during my childhood, alongside Kraftwerks "The Man Machine" ....4 years later i get my own back and blow him away with "Planet roclk" ...No ....u are NOT the only hip hop head who knows this album ..........
On Sundazed, On 4 Men With Beards, On Music On Vinyl, On Classic Records and all these other awesome re-issue labels who've done a bang-up job of Beautifully re-issuing some great lost treasures. Hopefully one of you will do us a HUGE favor and put together a Deluxe 180-gram Vinyl re-issue, Remastered from original analog tapes and with everything faithfully reproduced, right down to the Booklet. In fact, that's the ONLY way I'll even buy it.
This is the greatest un-kown album of all time. I don't really like making blanket statements like that, but for once it is totally true! I have been through 3 LP versions of this and still own one, 2 CD versions and the rare Cassette box set.
@larjschoen larjschoen - I'm totally with you on this one. Godley thought they made a monster, but that's only because the duo had a decade of quirky yet infinitely more marketable (and this was the year of 1977!) three minute tunes behind them. Quite unlike this marvel of a showpiece. BTW, I've still got my two LP sets and three CD versions. A bit envious of your cassette box set, though... ;-)
@larjschoen *nods* Totally awesome, emersive experience. I still smile at the line. "Thank God for the volv's. That's what I say. The cheaper cars were going backwards."
Thanks for posting. Englishman in New York used to scare the crap out of me as a kid, and while trying to find it from an almost forgotten memory I stumbled onto Consequences. Needless to say I'm a new fan. Shame I'm only about 30 years too late and this album is pretty hard (and expensive) to pick up. Still, ain't that exactly what YouTube is for? ;)
I heard of this album in a pre-release piece on Radio 1, I bought it on itls release and was rewarded with one of the best musical experiences possible!!!!!!!!! Thank Lol & Kev!!!!!
I have this record set. Three albums with the voice of...whats his name...Peter Cook! I remembered! Ha! He played the devil in the room below the...room above? Ill have to break the set out again. It had somewhat of a plot , I think. It's been quite awhile since listening to it. But the engineering is really great. Id type more, but for some reason I all of a sudden have a great urge to take a piss! Or leave one, actually.
Been after listening to this again for years. It is truly scary after a few smokes then driving home through the countryside at night in a bad storm. One hell of afrightening experience!!!!
Bijzondere beeldende muziek, van een van de beste concept-albums aller tijden, die op dit moment even extra actueel is in Noord-Nederland.

When I bought this brilliant album in 1979 it seemed ridiculous that the weather could turn against us. Doesn't seem so crazy now!
