Yeah, pretty sure you can't just pop it off right away and put it in your pocket. I remember the glass of the spent flash bulbs being a little bit melted from the heat of the flash.
I miss my Kodak instamatic camera with the little flashcube. The pictures came out nice, but it was more fun using the flashcubes in the dark, or to wake someone up as a joke!
When this ad was created, LSD often came on sugar cubes. The action in this ad seems to take place at a party where LSD might be part of the fun. Could Kodak perhaps be alluding to this? Do you think Timothy Leary might have secretly worked for Kodak after the professor gig was up?
I remember those cameras with the flash cube. They were good cameras. Only problem with the commercial is that those cubes were hot after you used them, so to pop it in your hand and then your pocket right away was a little misleading.
I remember using these as a kid. Not only is the tune reminiscent of "Can't buy me love, but the 'discotheque' scene is very similar to one in "hard day's night'
Groovy commercial! And does anyone notice the tune playing is very closely based on "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles. Yep, I'm old. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Aaaah, those good ol' days of the high-tech flash cube! I was born in 69, so I remember seeing them at family gatherings (I was even looking through family photos, and my aunt is holding a camera with one of those cubes on it).
I used to have one of the cameras the guy in this spot is using. It's a Kodak Instamatic 104. The winder on the top didn't advance to the next frame -- instead, it was spring-loaded and, when wound up, would automatically (mechanically) advance from frame to frame as you pressed the shutter button. Pretty cool for the day. But the 104 was way more expensive than $18 back then.
Yea those things were cool

Back when 18$ was worth about as much as 50$ these days.

@Vladdyboy $18 in 1967 is the equivalent of about $115 in 2010 dollars.

I actually used a camera just like this one. . .until they stopped selling flash cubes about 15 years ago!

My old Canon Dial 35 has the optional Canon flashcube holder, I used it just a couple hours ago...it's quite the retro rig!

That's when commercials where one minute mini-movies! Very drug oriented marketing strategy!

Now you can buy a whole disposable camera for probably the real cost of a pack of flashcubes. Flashbars didn't need to be rotated.

I still have my Instimatic 104--in fact, it's hanging behind me in my office. It was my first camera.
