  • @jordanrosenfilms Maybe he thought the gurl not the camera. haha

  • She was a cutie girl until she opened her mouth ... :/

  • Before you guys, spend money on an HV30 or hv40 (they were great for their time). I strongly suggest you look into the new wave of Digital SLR cameras, that shoot amazing film like video. Specifically, you should look at the Canon T2i.

    You're welcome.

  • @BenHughesStudios

    Thanks for the header.

  • dam good footage, cute girls:P

  • man...do u have to get this the hv40 only by online shopping? i can't find it in any local stores around seattle, they all seem to have had this in their 'last season' of camcorders, i don't want to order off of internet!

  • @seeyaspacecowboy Amazon or ebay are your best bet possibly Best Buy but i doubt it

  • so freakin cool I don't care what anbody says way cool. It's so wierd I did like 6 months of research I almost bought the panasonic dvx 100b then someone said for the same price I could get the canon hv 40 and make my own camera for a 1,000 dollars you get all these goodies, plus in hd, here is the list camera $625, Beachtek Audio Adapter, $150, Pearstone Wide Angle Lens Attachment $130, Hoya 43mm Introductor Filter Kit, UV Circular Polarizer $50, Pearstone Litium-Ion Battery Pack, $45.

  • great shot...

In my canon legria HV40, i have options HDV and HDV (PF25). So where is this native 24?

  • @ladronka123 anyway, learned that in legria there is no such option.

  • It looks like you're using manual focus at a couple of points. Does this camera have manual focus or is that look just the camera going berzerk trying to focus on something?

Vid looks great - nice job; can't believe you did it without a stedicam.

  • How much was it?

  • great quality--do u like sony vegas 9 platinum pro pack?? I'm thinking about buying it, but I'm still doing some research. =)

    Does it have masking??

  • great video! did you shoot it handheld?

  • @yozitaki Yes I did!

  • @jordanrosenfilms

    wow, nice!

  • can you please tell me who`s this cover?

  • look in the info...

  • thks, great vid

  • nice vid!

  • Does the focus work like this also in hg21?

  • @imjustthesexmacine not too sure

  • What kind of lens did you have on that while filming?

  • @jonascale just the camera

  • Excellent !!! Colors were really outstanding !!

  • @Johnnyboy792 thanks

  • i dont like the focus, it doesnt look natural

  • nice girl :)

  • Ok this is definatly the camera I am buying once they become availble.. I'm planning my own "secret totally awesome project" lol and I need a good camcorder for this

  • she look like Ann Hathaway

  • that was really neat.

  • Outstanding!

  • how did you capture the video so well with your program?

  • this looks amazing really amazing!!! I want this camera now lol but don't you find it a hassle to work with those miniDV tapes instead of recording onto a memory card? Pro's Con's on both? Do you record over your miniDV's? Or save them?

  • nice ice girl...

  • Is it the camera that is making the girl look good or the girl that is making the camera good look?:)

  • the difference to me is not picture quality but handling of the different files.

i got the hv30 with minidv, and the main reason its better to is not the picture quality but the mpeg export, better for an OLD or weak computer.

if i had a super computer, it would be rather easy to have files on disk. these files need more RAM and processor.

  • whats that remix that is on the commericail for visa its amazing but i cant find it

  • Donno but this song is by Nada surf.

  • so is this the same quality as HV30?

  • I think so.

  • I prefer the look of the HG21 but it's not a miniDV and I know miniDV is soo much better, so I'm tempted to go for this one instead

    arhhh I can't decide!

  • miniDV isn't necessarily better. I have the canon HG10, which is a harddrive camera, and the level of quality is fairly indistinguishable. I'm not trying to spam, but watch some of the videos I've made. You'll see that it looks just as good as miniDV. Plus you don't have to do deal with annoying tapes if you use harddrive. You capture ten times faster.

  • i found editting with avi from mini dv is much smooth than that of flash cards, and i know hdd. is a "faster flash card"

  • Go for HV40. MiniDV is reliable, and 24p looks really cool. Quality is amazing.

  • Yes, I absolutely have to have this HD camcorder. I'm coming from having owned a Panasonic DVX100. I'm ready to move up to HD.

  • Good choice.

  • Very nice footage. I can't wait to pick the HV40 camera up at the end of this year.

  • this or a jvc everio gz-hm400?

  • HOW DO U ERASE THE FOOTAGE ON THE TAPE?

  • record over it

  • ;) very nice contrast on the girl`s face

  • thank you

  • very nice, can you tell me how did you edit and format of upload...

  • 1280x720 Sony AVC Bit rate 5,000,000

check out my new music video on my account!

  • Can you please tell me how you did the shot at: 0:32

  • Stood 10 feet away, used manual focus.

  • Man, are u rich? You have to be if you had enough money to buy that camera!

  • Thank you, I guess. No, I'm not. It's a real hobby of mine, so I believe the high price is worth it.

  • is the sound quality good in tapes ?

because we all know that if its in a SD card it will be better ? or not ? i dont know

    message me

  • SD and HDD are both digital.

Digital stuff rounds up the 0 and 1s

Non digi stuff (dunno the english word) doesn't add up and records the exactly what it senses.

If you want quality go for Tape

If you want price/performance get tape

So tape is cheaper and better,

Internal microphones are bad on camera's even in the thousands that's why in your budget always include a microfoon

Make sure the camera you are buying has a sound plug!1111 (most important feature to look for)

  • Fine.

  • what color correction did you use?

  • Played around until I got it right.

  • Great test footage! Do you have a shotgun mic you can recommend to me, as I also just purchased the HV 40?

  • Rode Video Mic

  • hey i have an hv40 but when i record in 24p and then i capture it is interlaced and the clip info says its 29.97 (any way it looks like 24)

any idea? pleas ehelp me with this thing =)

  • what is the sound quality like? does it have option for xlr?

  • The sound quality is good enough and I think there is an option for a Mini accessory shoe, if that means anything.

  • thta girl is state of the art

  • Hahaha

  • I have a question. How do you get your HD uploaded on you tube ? I have a HV 30, but when I upload my video are not clear!

  • Make sure it is rendered in 1280 x 720 at best rendering quality and resolution

  • is this camera easy to upload to your computer?

  • With the firewire it is very easy!

  • k thanks I was hoping it would be firewire

  • Hi, I love your depth of field results. Do you used a 35mm adapter?

I have an HV20 but can't get that DOF without the 35mm adapter, even at high zoom. I am tempted to get the hv40 if lens alone permits that DOF.

  • Thank you!

I do not use a 35mm adapter but I intend on purchasing one. Not that the DOF is bad, it is just I want to get an even more shallow depth of field without having to stand far away. I want to make my movies look even more life film!

  • in sony vegas pro 9 what do you set the setting non progressive, upper field first, lower field first? what colour corrections do you do? what do you have you camera settings set at? I know 24f hdv cinemode, but what else? Thanks so much for your help so far.

  • no I set it to progressive. I can't get into detail with colour correction. Its like asking what colours I used to paint a painting. I played around for a while until I got this cool, chill look. 24f HDV NOT CINEMODE. Cinemode will drain out your colours because it is intended for people to use colour correction to add life to their video.

    No problem.

  • is there any mode for the HV40 to shoot in a higher framrate?? because i know the sony HD9 can shot in like 100 fps for like 5 seconds or something?!?

  • I don't think so, I am sorry.

  • How do i get out of widescreen. all the videos that i use want to go to widescreen. I need full screen.

  • you want widescreen! I use widescreen and I don't know how to use full screen.

  • I am using Sony vegas 9 platinum pro. When i try to upload it shows upload at 29.90 fps is this correct? I dont have a button that says render. I must be doing something wrong. I have never used sony vegas, i normally use pinnacle studio 11. I am new to sony vegas.

  • Upload should say IEEE 394 > Canon HV40. READY TO CAPTURE

Then in the media tab, click on a clip and it should display at the bottom of the media window what the properties are. It should say framerate: 23.976 progressive

  • Sorry to bother you, but I am having trouble making my video look as good as yours. I got my HV40 and I also bought sony vegas 9 platinum Pro Pack. I cant figure out how to render the file like you explained. I also want to burn my project to DVD, but it wants to burn in 29.97fps or something. I cant seem to figure the sony vegas out. How did you render the file that you explained? I need help. Thanks

  • If you want to burn your project to DVD then my advice won't help you. The resolution I am talking about is for this caliber of YouTube quality. To burn to DVD, you must find another tutorial online. What program are you using?

To render for the web like this, and to just generally render as a Quicktime saved on to your hard drive, go to...

    File > Properties

    Set to HDV 1440 x 1080

Erase what you find in the frame rate box, type in 23.976.......

  • And do what I do now but did not do in this old video, go to deinterlace and select Interpolate

  • Make sure BEST QUALITY is selected near the middle.

    Render as Custom file

    Sony AVC file

    23.976 frame rate

Where it says frame size go to Custom and type in 1280x 720.

Set your bit rate to 5,000,000

    RENDER!

Feel free to ask more questions

    Jordan

  • you didn't use a depth of field adapter did you? Because I haven't realized that the depth of field was already quite nice with this camera.

  • No I did not. I agree, the DOF is already very good. If you want an adapter then check out Jag35. Theirs seem really cool.

  • Oh, I just watched one video shot with a HV-40 but it was pal. Is your camera PAL or NTSC? That may make a big difference.

  • NTSC

    I don't know.

  • One more question for you. What kind of tapes do you use? Sony, Panasonic, or what? Can you please tell me what you recommend? Thanks.

  • I recommend Sony Digital HD MiniDV tapes. I don't know the difference between a regular MiniDV tape and an HD one, there may not be a difference, but just to make sure I buy the HD ones. They are usually about $10 more.

  • Thanks for all your help. I ordered the Canon HV40 today, and the Vegas 9 Platinum Pro Pack. I can't wait to make a video and see the quality of the video. If it's OK, I may have to ask you for more help to get my videos look as good as yours does. I will let you know when it arrives. Again Thank you so much for your help.

  • I am happy to hear that. Enjoy! Ask me questions anytime

  • You have been a big help. Thanks so much for taking time to help me out. Keep up the good work, and keep the videos coming.

  • Thank you! I will.

  • I think this video on youtube looks great, nothing at all wrong with it. thanks for your quick reply. 1 more question. Did you just run your video through vegas or did you do any special touches to it? Thanks again, and GREAT job.

  • Colour correction of course. If you buy the camera you will be so happy. This was the first video I filmed and I remember when I came back from shooting and I stuck it into our 60 inch TV to watch the playback, the video was sharp, colourful, and beautiful to watch in HD.

  • Is this mainly the camera that makes the quality look so GOOD or the program you use to edit? I am starting to film in the outdoors and i need a camera that produces the quality that you have. How does it look on DVD? Please I need to know exactly what you are using to make the video look so good. Thanks.

  • I believe it's the camera. This video was made last June, and my skills have only gotten better. I am working on a video now that looks stunning, so it only gets better from this. Back then I edited with Sony Vegas Platinum 9 Pro Pack, now I edit with Vegas Pro 9 :). It looks just as gorgeous on DVD, maybe better because there are tutorials online on how to burn HD-DVDs without the Blu-Ray burner. Search for tutorials online, I certainly did. I shot in 24 f......

  • Comment 2:

I shot in 24f obviously in HD. I imported as regular footage and Vegas knew exactly what properties the footage was shot in. I then rendered the file as Sony AVC at 23.976 framerate and best resolution quality at 1280x720 custom frame size. Bit rate 5,000,000. Sound by default.

    I hope this helps!

  • What was the deciding factor to pick miniDV?

  • Although it is technically still digital, I believe footage shot on MiniDV and footage shot on AVCHD are compressed with a different codec. In my opinion the MiniDV camera's codec has a more film-like look i.e. motion, movement, focus. It is also more reliable because you can't accidentally delete the footage! Shoot on it, pop it out, stick a sticker over the tape stating what it is, and lock it up somewhere and you will have it forever!

    Hope this helps

    Jordan

  • wow dude it looks great

  • Thank you.

  • I have bought this cam 3 weeks ago but I still have a few questions

is there anybody who want's to help me. ...(please)

  • What do you need?

  • I'd be happy to help you.

    What are your questions?

  • hello,

    Your video is beautitul

    I have also a canon hv40 i can't handle it the way I want.

I have some questions but i don't know who to ask them

would you be so kind to help me?

  • Yes, what are your questions?

  • Very nice work. What settings did you output on to make it look good on youtube?

  • 1280x720 Sony AVC Bitrate 5,000,000

  • Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion.

  • man the shots look great i cant wait till i have enough to buy this camera lol

  • Thanks man!

  • Thank you for the footage. The quality looks great on HV40. I might consider buying it, however right now I will stick with Canon T1i.

  • You need to get Magic Bullets, and It will look like godly. Actually, you need Magic bullets for The HV40, theyre best friends haha.

  • I will look into it. Thank you.

  • magnificent

  • Thank you very much!

  • aiight.. she aint got great teeth, but she still looks good. far from 'nasty' as u put it

  • great samples...

  • I am happy you enjoyed them.

  • She's embarrass showing her teeth tell her to show some confidence of her self! People have to accept who we are even what!

Beautiful Footage. But I have the HV30 and I'm not looking to it. just watching how the difference it is.

    Thank you!

  • Thank you for your irrelevant comment. However I appreciate your positive feedback!

  • nice quality.. n ur friend is hott!

  • are you blind?

  • nah.. but apparently u are

  • Going with native 24p will give you the best quality without having to remove the pulldown. Do whatever is right for you man. Thanks.

  • I would buy the HV40 as I now use Vegas Pro and I am very happy with it. Do some research on places to buy the camera and you could find it for under $900. If you want to make short films then true 24p might be a necessity, depending on what you want to do. If this is your case then buy the HV40. If not, buy the HV30, but you may regret it down the road when wanting to make short films, as adding a pulldown to the footage to create true 24p resolution will remove pixels from your footage.

  • you can get it for $750 brand new on ebay!!

I just got mine today. Have it set for 24F (true 24fps) but I'm not sure what other settings will look good w/ it....cinema mode isn't that great, but then again I haven't done any shooting w/ it yet.

Anyone know some good settings for image effect and shutter settings (Tv, Av, cinema, etc?) Cinema just looks a bit washed out compared to Tv and Av.....

  • TV shutter speed 60 not 48 because the motion is dizzying. Thank you.

  • when talking about the look and feel that the AVCHD cameras add, i am refering to the digital look that is applied to the footage, which I do not like, personally.

  • Sorry to all of you guys for not answering your questions as I have been away for a month. Thank you for the complements. In my opinion when watching other videos the HV40 surpasses the rest of the cameras because it does not add this look and feel to the video as many AVCHD cameras do. Tapes are reliable and the quality is amazing. Thanks a lot!

  • Which one should I get? The HV30 or the HV40? Which is one is more compatible with Sony Vegas?

  • Comment removed

  • amazing

  • I'd really like to know what format you expo'd this out to. I plan on buying one of these cameras, and I'd love to know the best format you've experienced reguarding quality of footage. The colour of this footage is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this, I'm in love with the camera.

  • The Canon HV 40 shots HDV footage, it's best transcoded in Final Cut Studio 6 to Apple Pro Res 422, especially if you plan on doing a lot of compositing and effects to the footage. This is from my own experiences. I also use a Macintosh for all of my editing. Oh, the HV 40 is a very good camera especially when you buy the IRV focus ring for it. Good luck.

  • how much is the studio 6 editing software? what other relatively cheap software packs are good for movie making on this cam? sorry for the questions I recently won a small award for making a 30 sec movie on my cell phone and have been givin other projects, just picked up this cam.

  • Final cut Studio 2 Version 6.0 cost $1200.00 USD. And it only works on Macintosh computers. It is by far the best video editing software out there. It does have a learning curve but all software does really. If your on a PC, Choose Vegas 9 pro. If editing is something your going to be doing for a long time then buy a Mac. It really doesnt' matter what camera you have, what matters is how the footage is processed. Color correction is key, so make sure what you choose can a least do that. GD Luck!
