Its funny with people that claims monkeywalk and other physical exercises isn't a part of parkour / freerunning. In the beginning, that was what it was all about. Doing monkeywalk in long distances, doing huge amounts of repetitions, throwing, lifting heavy objects.. really functional training. The techniques came later. Its weird how people nowdays pass on parkour or freerunning as acrobatics brought outdoors. Im glad there is a certificate so its not forgotten.
I am very impressed by all of our fine men in the military today.. you all make me very proud to be a American. Going back out in my paradise retreat for a good run. You all insprire me to get the lead out.. And Ozzi.. we all want to thank you
My first day of parkour just so happened to be the day Ozzi came to visit our group. That was one hell of a first day. If there's one thing I learned then, it's that parkour is 90% conditioning.
How do I learn(train for) parkour?...I want to learn but I've got no teachers...(I live in Taiwan and the only people teaching are university students in the north I live in the south, and they teach free-running not parkour)...so what should(could) I do?
@Boy1062 if you want to learn about parkour, make sure you learn from reliable sources. for me, the only really reliable sources are the founders or people who have been certified to be instructors by the founders. look up videos and reading material from Parkour Generations, Majestic Force, Sebastien Foucan or David Belle. on the parkour generations website, you'll find a list of certified instructors around the world. the instructor in this video, ozzi, is certified. hope this helps!
@Boy1062 Parkour is human movement, you don't need a teacher. Focus on getting (very) strong, learning the basic moves, and how you personally react to different obstacles. Go to american parkour.com to learn different tutorials. Don't take drops over chest height for the first year. The most important thing you can do is get strong, and drill really basic moves over and over. That builds control and flow, which is a lot more important than just one move. Drill moves in twos or threes.
I think parkour-style training could be very useful for marines and soldiers. Not to say anyone's going to be doing parkour in Baghdad, but rather when you're in a situation and you've got to vault a busted wall, or some traverse broken stairs or any kind of weird situation where you've gotta move and shit is in your way. The more in tune you are with your body, and familiar with the sort of motions involved, the less likely you'll sprain something and put yourself at further risk.
After learning freerunning, this looks kinda dumb, I've seen parkour and how they move, it's amazing, but this was low grade stuff, it would have looked much better with some tricks inquired, at such a low level it looks stupid if your not flipping....
@XxOffTonexX And how would learning how to flip benefit these guys?? These Devil Dogs got what they wanted out of this session, conditioning from a new perspective. I've trained with Ozzi before and he knows damn well what he's doing, just like the rest of HiPK and Urban Current. Parkour is not something you can compare with freerunning. All in short, this was very eye opening for these guys and it was physically beneficial.
Maybe they don't know how to flip. Not knowing how to flip and going into them only to land in the hospital is definitely not something you'd want to do. When you started out, I'm pretty sure you didn't just throw yourself into a flip at first and go, "I'm officially a freerunner now". It took time to get the hang of it all first, I'm sure.
Amazing basics training session! I have to integrate some of those into my training regime. and your wide angle wasn't too dirty. I didn't even notice it until I read the description!
I think that everyone is missing the fact that they are trying something "new". And yeah i agree, these guys are probably easily strong enough to try techniques... but what if they dont have great muscle control, but they are just "strong" it wont benefit them. no matter how tough strong or fast you are, you should always start from the bottom and move up... And for all the Tracuers out there, Ur a liar if u say that u dont drill your basics more than anything
@ftwapoc I couldn't agree more. Parkour is like a language. You don't use your basics, then you'll forget them. And it's gonna be too late to remember that once you're stuck in a hospital bed.
Do you happen to know anyone in the Monterey, CA Area? I'm stationed here but I'm from Hawaii. I wanna meet up with a training group, but if not i have to wait another year till i get stationed back home....but i will be coming home for XMAS!!!
It was an ok video, but I can't see this type of training benifiting them. If they have to chase the enemy or being chased, doing pressups or jumping up stairs isn't going to help. Vaults, wall climbs, underbars, wall-muscle ups can be done at low level parkour without the need for any foundations.
@fezaz1 I guess n = but? If its for fun, thats fine. I'm just thinking how it would be practical for their day job. Parkour is about freedom of movement but also getting over all obstacle - if that includes the weapon they are carrying or the weight on their back, that is also an obstacle they have to get over.
@alltheway3 I see where you are coming from but without the strength there is not control. You need to prepare the body before moving onto bigger things, if not, they would just be doing things out of forcings themselves up rather than, control and power. That plus this training helps them develops the ability to tune in with their bodies as they continue to build skilss. You dont just take them and have them do full on movement without being prepared. Ansd this guys, werent prepared.
@severmine its not bullshit wat do u think a cat balance is? as well as a kong vault? wat if u drop from a height that requires you 2 use all 4s? you need to train your body as a whole thats why parkour also incorporates quadrupedal movement. its the key 2 fluidity.
@dougtraceur some of them were failing at the indian push-ups. There's such a huge difference between being buff and having an efficient body. The ladder is really what's important for parkour imo.
they're strong, but if their muscle memory isnt tuned and all they get is technique, it might fail them if they ever need it in the battlefield or real life situation.
@dougtraceur The problem is that Parkour requires a different type of strength. I've seen weight lifters to marines to long distance runners all struggle. There's a multitude of small muscle groups that need to be built before one can safely practice all the technical aspects.
@dougtraceur A lot of this conditioning seemed good for their technicality, which they probably don't typically focus on. Also looked like it got them comfortable with movements they don't do often..
However you all feel about Marines, they have decided to put their life on the line for ideals in which they believe they are protecting the people back home, including the ones making snide comments on YouTube. Parkour is a great idea for Marines to add to their training regimen because it deals with versatility and flow which they will use every day in the field and can hopefully incorporate into saving theirs or their friends lives.
Modern history magic. =) Not like the others, but truly it's a magic — learn to see things in different perspective. Great video: you can see how ugly movements became more fluid — moment, when this magic hit marines. And I really liked their reaction, it's adequate and healthy. No one damaged himself or smth. P.S. Pls, give marines this video: watch?v=Poph6Jmc688, it's a short film about parkour mental side. Peace!
The guy at the end doing the interview sounds like Slyfoxhound
