  • How long must we be separated? Catholics and Orthodox need to be one again, just as the Holy Spirit, the Son and the Father are one. Beautiful Liturgy.

  • Thanks for posting this, Cossack.

  • EVER SEE AN OUT DOOR LITURGY?

and do not FORGET the church did this many centuries before

Icon Screens were used- there is a reason i will write about it later

  • This is done behind closed doors because we arent supposed to see this. communing of the clergy is done behind closed doors and the altar servers arent supposed to watch. WHy is this putfor everyone to see?

  • why is the consecration done behind closed doors?

  • @mandaloreJCL In some Orthodox churches, the Beautiful Gate (the one in the middle of the iconostasis, the icon screen) is open almost all the time. Our priest has the privilege to celebrate with the Beautiful Gate open until the communion of the clergy, which means that they are open during the consecration. However, you do not see very much. He is standing at the altar praying, and the Holy Gifts are usually covered by a veil called "aer". However…

  • @mandaloreJCL However, the communion of the clergy takes place behind the curtain because it is symbolic Christ's Last Supper which he held with his Apostles only. The laity, of course, are permitted to receive the Holy Gifts…but this happens later. The priest (and the deacon, if present) carry the Holy Gifts out of the sanctuary. He calls: "With faith and fear of God, come near!"

  • Beautiful!

  • The Roman rite is largest and most well known rite of the Catholic church, but it is not the only one. The Byzantine Catholic rite is very similar to the Byzantine Orthodox liturgy depicted here. Byzantine Catholics are in communion with the Pope in Rome, but free to follow their own liturgical worship and disciplines (e.g. the Byzantine Catholic church ordains married men to the clergy).

  • God bless His holy church...i converted to holy orthodoxy about two years ago :)

  • do orthodox turn the wine into blood before they drink it? Or do they have a different view than Catholics?

  • @kensingtonpalace

Orthodox Christians believe the sanctified bread and wine are the true body and blood of Christ.

The communion of the clergy takes place behind closed doors, so normally the laity never see it. But there's always youtube.

  • @prorokini so do catholics , and they should because the lord said it was

  • @wjm7259 I know. It is a common point of doctrine.

  • God bless

  • It is very interesting to compare and contrast with the traditional Roman rite of Holy Mass in Catholicism. Thank you for posting!
