Stop fighting guys. We are all Christian. There can be multiple churches as long as they were established by an apostle. there were 12 apostles NOT ONE. leave everything else to your prayers and God and continue believing what you know is right. The more conflict we have the weaker we are as a family. As Christ's family.just stop.
@NYlaxer multiple churches? Matt. 16:18 - Jesus says, "I will build my 'Church' (not churches)." There is only one Church built upon one Rock with one teaching authority, not many different denominations, built upon various pastoral opinions and suggestions.
1 Cor. 14:33 - God cannot be the author of the Protestant confusion. Only the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church claims and proves to be Christ's Church.
along with the other 50,000 denominations, Every saint was Catholic, Jesus said he was going to build his Church, NOT CHURCHES. And Saint Peter was the first Pope, shame on shenouda for calling himself pope, we have One Pope right now and his name is Benedict.
@MysticalCity I'm Catholic also, and I believe that there is only one pope...however there is a saint in both the Coptic and Catholic Church that was pope of Alexandria who was named Saint Cyril of Alexandria...IDK why he was called "pope" but apparently he was during the time when the Coptic church was in communion with Rome. Plus there are Coptic saints such as Saint Abraham the Syrian and Saint Cyril VI.
@mleonetti1991 The Only True pope at that time was the bishop of Rome, other sects can't ordain saints, i think you might of thought they were coptic, because coptics honored them,
“He promises to found the church, assigning immovableness to it, as He is the Lord of strength, and over this he sets Peter as shepherd.” Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on Matthew (A.D. 428).
@mleonetti1991 “Concerning this Holy Catholic Church Paul writes to Timothy, 'That thou mayest know haw thou oughtest to behave thyself in the House of God, which is the Church of the Living God, the pillar and ground of the truth'” Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures,18:25(A.D. 350).
i have many more quotes from the early Church Fathers regarding the Catholic Church, you will not find another church Father saying anything about another church.
@mleonetti1991 "I am held in the communion of the Catholic Church by...and by the succession of bishops from the very seat of Peter, to whom the Lord, after His resurrection commended His sheep to be fed up to the present episcopate." Augustine, Against the Letter of Mani, 5 (A.D. 395).
"It has been ordained by the apostles and their successors, that nothing be read in the Catholic Church, except the law, and the prophets, and the Gospels." Philastrius of Brescia, On Heresies (ante A.D. 387).
Just to make the point from the last paragraph clear, Jesus specifically allots Peter a unique, new role in salvation history, as he did to Abraham and Israel. This greatly distinguishes Peter as a signifcantly major person in the church, as Abraham and Israel were as members of God's chosen people. His primacy among the apostles and early church also makes itself clear. He often represented the apostles, speaking to Christ on their behalf, and more (but expanding this needs >500 characters)
So Christ still refers to Peter as a foundational rock. Also, at another level, Simon's name change recalls the OT episodes where God renamed Abram as Abraham and Jacob as Israel. Peter now stands in this biblical tradition where new names signify new God-given roles in salvation history. Also, he gives Peter (and only Peter) such binding power and authority:"I will give you the keys of the Kingdom...whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose.." etc (Mt 16:18-19)
Jesus is the cornerstone of the Church...the most important structural component. I listened to something on the radio the other day about how Peter was continuously mentioned in the scriptures showing that he was first in importance regarding the apostles...pointing to his position. I believe that all the popes share in this regarding the vicor of Christ on the earth and think that somehow, we today are missing a portion of that meaning. There should be no fighting. thank you for the info.
@hwiseman1 Just saw you wrote this. Peter was no more important than any of the other 12. Fact is Peter and Paul created the first bishop of the early church. Just to mention though, this idea of the Catholic pope being the absolute highest position over all other popes is wrong and wasnt established until after the split when rome broke away. This is also where lies like the pope being infalible and original sin started to pop up.
@petnag999 I wish this would happen but Orthodox Christians will not be willing to change any doctrine. The Catholic church has changed many things from the original theology. Original Sin, Purgetory, infalibility of the Pope and the filioque are just some of the things that the catholic church would have to recant in order for the reuniting of Christianity. Look up Davidwithhun youtube channel. He does an amazing job on this very topic.
@mumswording Oh woman please don't argue on the Greek words. Jesus spoke Aramic and in the Gospel of Luke He proclaimed Peter as Cepha. Don't pass me the Regular and Radical Protestant Statements. I am busy in my Exams at College and will destroy you soon after my exams. Amen. Salam
@hwiseman1 I will send you a link. Basically Peter is NOT the rock according to scripture. CHRIST is the rock of the church. For example: Psalm 18:31, "And who is a rock, except our God." Jesus is the chief cornerstone and the foundation for it all. Peter was great but still just a man. A man who was faith was tested when he fell walking on water. A man who denied christ 3 times and was defeated by satan. Peter was a human just like all men.
@mumswording It is true that Christ is the chief cornerstone, but the house of God is also built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets (Eph 2:19-20), of whom peter is primary. Christ called only him "kepha" which means "sizeable rock" in Aramaic. This word is used 9 times in the NT (Jn 1:42; 1 Cor 1:12, 15:5; Gal 1:18, 2:9 etc.). Peter was human, but so was Mark. Peter sinned, but so did Mark. But Peter is special in that Christ gave him alone the Keys of the Kingdom (Mt 16:18-19)
The GREAT RIFT happened when the the Roman church wanted to change the nicean Creed. The Orthodox church did not want to change. so CHurch sent a person holding on a sunday and slammed it on the holy alter. The oder wasdeclairing the bishop of Rome the Highest order over all Christians. To this day Orthodoxy is unchanged while the catholic church has changed many things including theological prinicples.
@eraser695 Just saw you write this. You wont proof that Christ is the rock and not Peter? Its all over the scriptures.Read the old testament and then look at all the proof Paul gives. Christ was clear on who the rock was as well. Luke 20:17
He said the stone that was rejected became the chief cornerstone. The chief Cornerstonewas the largest stone, baring the greatest burden of all the stones in the structure and determined the shape, size, dimensions of the structure which it supported
@mumswording Well Well. Good answer but I only Knew a Verse uttered by Christ Alone that Jesus called Peter "Cephas" in John 1:42. Later Jesus told about the Foundation of His True Church in Matt 16 : 18. If Jesus was Wrong according to YOU then WHY CONSTANTINOPLE FELL TO ISLAM "A CITY MADE BY CONSTANTINE"? NOT ROME MADE BY THE ROCK "PETER".
@eraser695 Sorry but that too is incorrect. In the original Greek Christ addresses Peter as PETROS. Petros means a Small Rock (think Pebble). Then later Uses the word PETRAS when he says upon this ROCK I will build my Church. In Greek PETRAS would be a Massive stone. This is driven home later in Matthew 7:24-25 when Christ uses the word PETRAS when speaking about the wise man who built his home on the rock. Christ was very clear that he is the rock. Can U refraise your pt on Constantinople?
Firstly, it would be extremely unusal if Jesus spoke to the apostles in Greek. It is almost certain he spoke to them in Aramaic (as most biblical scholars agree), and there was only one word he could have used for rock: kepha, meaning sizeable rock. When speaking to Peter, Christ says, "You are Peter (Petros) and on this rock (Petra) I will build my church". Petros meaning stone, and petra meaning big rock. Why the distinction? Peter was a man. You dont name a male the femenine form of a word.
@mattd259 Sort of. Yes Christ spoke aramaic, but the universal language of all the people in this day was Greek. Like English today. The Romans spoke Greek, The apostle fisherman spoke Greek to sell fish, Christ definantly spoke Greek in preaching, and the New Testament was first written in Greek. Using the Greek, gospel was very clear in specifying that Christ differentiated in the word rock. 1 cant speculate on what Christ MAY have said in aramic when its the GREEK that is dictated
@mumswording As Christ and the apostles were Galileans and their mother-tongue was Aramaic, it would have been odd for Christ to speak to them in another language. In any case, the Greek also argues that Peter was the rock. You know the verse. First Christ NAMES him Petros, the masculine form of the word rock, since, you name a male a masculine form of a word (It would be odd to name a boy Josephine instead of Joseph), and he shows the meaning of the name to be Petra (large rock).
@mumswording If the gospel writer had intended to show that Peter was not suitable to be a big rock, he would have used the word petros for both cases. Also, as eraser695 mentions, the word Cephas is used in its original Aramiac in john 1:42 for example. Secondly, we do not make the case that Peter was the salvation of the world. But just as Moses had a unique role in bringing the Jews to God and the promised land, so does Peter have a unique role in bringing the Church to Christ (as His Vicar)
@mattd259 Also, you must look at the entire message. U want to make the case that the salvation of the world and the foundation of the church was placed on a human? Christ says satan will not triumph over this rock yet just 3 paragraphs down Satan DOES triumph over this rock Peter as he denies even knowing Christ 3 times. Peter was no more special than John, James of the inner circle. Peter wasnt the first bishop of church. It was Peter and Paul who selected James as the bishop.
@mumswording Also, Christ says that the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against HIS CHURCH, not Peter. I would say that your saying that satan defeated Peter is a exaggeration. But in any case, if Christ can turn a Saul, one of the greatest persecutors of the Chuch, into a Paul, one of the greatest fathers of the Church, ( and I say that the evils enacted through him were greater than Peters), then why cant he make a Peter out of a Simon? Also, the first bishops were instituted at the last suppr
Here are the Facts. The orthodox church was the first church. The split began when Constintine converted Rome to a Christian Nation. He wanted to have a church in Rome. This was the future catholic church.
If ever I would live in Egypt, I would still want to remain faithful to the Roman Church, but could I still be compatible with Coptic Catholicism? Because I know that I would have to attend an Eastern Catholic Church, due to the only Roman Catholic Church being in Alexandria.
I agree! What are you fighting here about? Copts are Orthodox and they share the same believe as the orthodox churches! And the orthodox faith is closer to the catholic faith than the protestantism is. We are facing times in which we can not afford to fight against each other, we have other enemies, that we need to fight in love. Yes, i am talkin about Islam. Especially the oriental orthodox suffer from them. Why do we need to be so stupid and fight each other, when we are one body?
No offense to our Orthodox brethren in the Lord, but they honor many saints who taught things they don't believe in. If sainthood is based on love for God and zeal for his precepts, but not necessarily 100% orthodox teachings, then we can't use that as a defense, arguing that any one man, no matter how saintly, explains the full truth of the faith for all time and can never be contradicted (except Christ of course, who is man but also GOD).
-Monastacism started by Saint Anthony the Great (a copt from upper Egypt)
-The Creed written by Saint Athanasius the 20th Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church
-Saint Athanasius also put together the official Canon of the New Testament
-It is also written by many historians that the there would be no christianity today, and the entire world would be Arian if it were not for Saint Athanasius.
This is incorrect. The so-called "Orthodox" bowed to the power of secular authorities and in 1054 separated themselves from the Successor of Peter, the divinely appointed representative of Christ on earth.
The Church waas goverfned by 5 Patriarchs, including the Patriarch of Rome. When the 4 Patriarch in East are still united, and the Patriarch of Rome asserted himself to be the only one, therefore it is the Bishop of Rome who separated from the East.
Before Peter went to Rome, he became the Bishop of Antioch for seven years. Therefore the Patriarch of Antioch iks the Successor of Peter. Peter did not found the Church of Rome, the Church of Rome had alredy existed when he left Antioch and arrived in Rome.
No history doesnt lie, crack open an encylopedia and it will say that the Catholic Church is the largest and oldest Christian faith in the world. Look up Eastern Orthodox and it will say second largest and it will also say founded in 1054AD, history doesn't lie I suggest you inform yourself
You should inform yourself,m that the first 7 Ecumenical Councils between the year 325-787 AD were held in the Capital City of the Eastern Roman Empire: Contantinople (Istambul, now), which was and is ( after it fell into the hands of the Turks in 1453) the Center of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Wake up man, learn real history.
The Orthodox Church started in 33 AD, it is the original Apostolic Church, and the teaching is intact and never underwent changes the way it is in the Roman Catholic Church. You should return to the original Catholic & Apostolic Church, which is kept intact within Eastern Christianity. Since the departure of the West (Roman Catholic Church) from the Union with the Eastern Church in 1054 its teachings have been modified and changed.
LOL the 15 encyclopedias do not know the history? Funny how they do through sources to affirm they have the correct facts. The Great Schism happend in 1054 when your church broke away. Thats okay though the Eastern rite who are in fact former Orthodox, are growing. Hmm wonder why. Keep living your lie mas. Show documentation that your church was before the Catholic Church.
We never broke away from anywhere. Because the Eastern Patriarchates of the East were never under the power of the Pope of Rome, but we respected the Pope as one among the five Patriarchs, and not the only one. So it was your church that broke away from the union with the other 4 Patriarchates in 1054, not us.
Ask any biblical scholar even the Protestant ones they will indeed tell you that the Catholic Church is the orginal church and that all others broke away. That is a fact. Like I said present documentation of your claim that your church was before the Catholic Church, your lucky I do not quote the Church Fathers. I have no problem with the Orothodox Church at all, just call it how it is, it was your church that broke away.
That is right the Catholic Church is the original Church, But it is the "Ancient" Catholic Church that has 5 Patriarchs as its leaders what is meant by that Confession, not the "Roman" Catholic Church which has the Pope of Rome alone as its head. And that Ancient Catholic Church is still alive, and is continued with an unbroken succession of Bishops, Patrirachs and clergymen, from the Apostolic times until now, within the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Original Catholic and Apostolic Church.
In so far as Protestantism is concerned, they are eggs that were hatched by Rome. Therefore if they talk about their ancient origin of course they know only about the Church of Rome. Because they were born in 1517, after Rome broke communion with the 4 otrher Patriarchates of "Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church" of the East in 1054.
If you want to quote the Fathers of the Western Church, of course you will find what is favorable to your stand. But I can also quote the Fathers from the Eastern Church that will teach the opposites to yoiur stands. So it is the Church with the Five Patriachs which was the original Catholic Church. Just recognize the fact of history, that your Church broke fellowship with the other four Patriarchs of the Ancient Original Catholic and Apostolic Church of the East.
mas you still fail to answer my question. Show documentation. Which Orthodox Church is the true one? eastern or oriental? the eastern russian one? which fights for the primacy over the patriarch of constantinople? the armenian which fights over the doctrines of the hipostatic union with the patriarch of constantinople? Or the patriarch of jerusalem who fights for the exclusion of the armenians in the Holy Sepulchre? Quite unorthodox to me. Bottomline your church broke away not mine.
I did answer your question: 1) I asked you to google :The History of the Orthodox Church, did you do it? 2) I asked you to obtain the book "Popes and Patriarchs". did you buy and read it. The documentations are in those articles and book
No you didnt. I said present documentation of your claim, not tell me which book its in. Scan the sourced documentation that states that your church was the first and send it. Telling me to read a book is not proving it. If thats the case, read the book "One True Church." Besides your church already claimed that Rome is the Primary Patriarch. It is in 5 articles online and 2 of those cant be found in your public library. I can send you the link, there are quotes there from your church leaders
Eastern and Oriental are basically having the same teaching. I agree with the comment of "emekonen" that the schism was created by Pope Leo. And in the Consultation in Chambessy Switzerland it is proven that both party's teaching the same thing about Christ, but using different experessions. The rest of the teaching and practices of both Church are substantially iun agreement.
There is no such a thing as gthe fight over primacy between Russia and Constantinople. Russia knows that it ranks 5 in the Patriarchate of the Orthodox Church. If it wants to assert itslef, of course, becauise it is the largest Orthodox jurisdiction in the world, that is all, but it has nothing to do with primacy, Russia is atill ranking 5 in the Orthjodox jurisdiction
About Armenian Church yiu are talking aboutr history of the past.. Together with the other Oriental Orthodox Churches, they came to agreement with Coinstantinople and other Eastern Orthodox Churches that substantially they teach the same thing about Christology with different expression. Oriental " Christ is of One Nature/Hypostasis out of Two Natures (Eastern : One Hypostasis in Two Natures), inseparable, undividedly. unminglingly, and unconfusedly"
can you answer me why St. Gregory of Nyssa wrote about how the romans thought they were better, in the 3-4th century. St. Basil also wrote how the latins had a "raised brow" being "full of pride". how can you explain that? and the countless errors the pope has made like kissing the koran or placing an idol of buddha on the altar, being blessed by a pagan priestess, i have the pictures to prove it! or worshipping with jews in the synogoge, John Chrysostom wouldnt be happy about that!
Explain to me why your Christology is faulty and anti-Chalcedonian. Explain to me why you ordain children to the diaconate. Explain to me why you decided to tear apart the body of Christ.
Chalcedonian was a misunderstanding, and actually the schism was created by Pope Leo, the heretic that wrote a letter praising Eutyches. No child is a full deacon lol, we ordain them as psalters to learn the hymns. Tear the body of Christ apart, you dont even recieve the blood during communion, another roman invention. now how about you answer my question. you need to read more, early saints warned us of Rome going awry.
I do not answer to heretics. You the heretic must answer to us Latins who alone have preserved the faith and who alone have been given authority over all the Church as our see is that of Peter who is the head appointed by our Lord Jesus Christ.
wow. why doesnt antioch make this claim? Peter was there 12 years before he went to rome. and rome has no claim as any authority. no early church father ever interpreted Mt 16:18 as the latins NONE! the early church fathers speak of how rome is arrogant and prideful though. bet you didnt know that.
ahh purgatory a pagan belief. the mayans, mexica, egyptians, sumerians, and the roman pagans believed this heresy. yet nowhere can we find this belief in early church history. and i dont misinterpret the fathers, you obviously have not read them. i like how you get on here and start trouble with everyone and pridefully bashe every non-catholic like the arrogant popes who forced people to kiss their feet. purgatory is pagan so is believing unbaptized babies go to hell. laughable
I see where you are coming from now. If you want to battle with people like Nudua, with very small minds and no understanding of their own religion then go ahead. But do you really believe this is productive? Catholics are not burning down Coptic churches or raping Coptic girls. This Nudua is an evil moron. Let God sort him out. And believe me, He will.
You are as misguided as you are evil. It is not "Latins" who preserved the faith. The Catholic church has MANY rites; all preserved the faith. Not just Latins. May God forgive your heresy.
We Latins are not in heresy. Furthermore, if you ever endeavored to study history, you would learn that we have always been the preservers of the faith while the East has fallen to Arianism, Iconoclasm, and Caesaropapism.
do all catholics just take actual history and distort it to their own liking? Arianism? are you serious? i dont have enough room to post the heresies of the catholic church. did you know Fr. Cozzone, a catholic priest, says that between 10-50% of catholic priests are gay. wow, im glad our priests arent members of NAMBLA, and our pope DEFINETLY wouldnt cover it up. then again we dong put idols on our altars or kiss the unholy koran. or deny the presence of Christ in the communion.
atleast our priests arent pedophiles. our patriarchs dont place idols on altars or
force people to kiss their feet. make doctrines that state unbaptized babies that die go to hell. adopt a pagan ideology (pergatory). also did you know that the term "pope" was used by the copts, the latin church used "vicar" and later adopted the word pope. i love that i can celebrate church like the apostles without preists touching me in my pants, and with stupid pagan doctrines to adhere to.
Do not speak anymore. Copts are not full Christians. If you are Eastern Orthodox, know that the integrity of the Patriarch of Constantinople was lost with Gennadios II who himself was appointed by Mehmet II, the Muslim authority.
still cant answer for these heresies. I believe constantinope remarked "better the crescent moon than the papal slipper". no catholic has ever attempted to answer for the heresies i mentioned above, cause they cant.
so purgatory, a pagan belief of pagan origin, is not heretical? an unbaptized infant that dies goes to hell isnt a heresy? placing an idol of buddha on the altar is not a heresy? changing the creed by adding the "fililoque" is not heresy? people do screw up from time to time, even the pope, although there is a doctrine that states the contrary. so i can understand that, our doctrine has not changed, yours has several times actually.
well you know thats a false statement and so does everyone here. there was never any infallability, there was no filique, we have many documents attesting to this. we believe in seperation of church and state which rome changed, we NEVER believed in purgatory, thats a pagan belief that you changed much later on, thats historical fact. of course youll ignore out of your arrogance which is typical for catholics and continue in your ignorant way.
Based on that statement it is clear that you have never once read the writings of the early church fathers or understand anything of early church history. the trinity has always existed, the word trinity was created by Tertullian long before any council. again your unable to address the heresies created by the roman church.
If you are fortunate enough to get to Purgatory, ask the Fathers these questions. Remember too that our first pope, St. Peter, stands at the gates of Heaven.
Again you dont address the heresies or cite any sources for them being valid, then you spew another heresy from your mouth, St. Peter did NOT found the roman church, why would St. Paul write to the roman church if St.Peter was running it? Why doesnt Antioch make the claim you are, St. Peter founded that 12 years before he ever went to rome. Your unable to quote any sources to prove the validity of these claims, NO early church father agrees with romes interpretation AT ALL!!
Another sure indication that you have no explaination just total arrogance and ignorance. you have perverted the holy scripture, as evidenced by the holy early church fathers interpretations, you have added pagan doctrines to yours and STILL cannot refute it with one single source besides, Rome says so! Historical fact proves you wrong, early church fathers prove you wrong, scripture proves you wrong, yet you continue. "the desire for power is the mother of all heresies" St. John Crysostom.
ah here come the insults. this usually happens when people cannot answer the questions posed to them. you know as well as everyone else the orientals are not monophisite's. accuse me of a heresy while ignoring the ones posed to you. i think everyone sees just how silly you look not answering for the heresies of your church.
ok then those things i mentioned above that WE consider heresies, explain them to me. cite the sources from where they come, why the former pope did those things. why the fililoque, why change the creed? show me any early church fathers interpretation of Mt 16:18 in Romes favor. prove to me these ARE NOT heresies. over all this debating both now and before you have avoided this question continually, what are you scared of?
The Catholic Church is not heretical for teaching the Trinity. The Trinity is just a word given to a concept that has always been an authentic part of the true faith. If it is false, how do we explain the fact that Jesus Christ is God (and man), the Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, YET there is but one God? (and that the scripture makes clear these three are PERSONS and that they often appear separate or together as if they are more than "hats" God puts on at different times).
A Catholic "converting" to a Coptic church is like parking in lot A instead of lot B at Disneyland; both have a shuttle to take you to the same place.
Yes, it is. Easter Orthodox say Oriental Orthodox are going to hell and vice versa. All churches; Catholic, Eastern and Oriental Orthodox have valid apostolic succession. Regardless of who left which councils, I sincerely don't believe it matters to God. Now that Mohammedanism is reaching the highest numbers it has ever seen, it is time more than ever for true Christian unity. This means abandoning petty pride and ego which can only bring evil.
well your wrong, the vast majority of Eastern Orthodox do not consider us heretics. and just being apostolic doesnt mean a thing when you have all the heresies that the catholic church has. our pope kisses no koran, our pope would never put an idol of buddha on the altar, our pope never forced people to kiss their feet. this guy nudua is fine example of catholicism, arrogant, prideful, condescending, and ignorant.
First, YOU are wrong as Eastern Orthodox will NOT allow you communion because technically you are still in schism. Second, JP II is dead and in the grave. Pope Benedict would never kiss a Koran. Yes, Nudua is a moron, but not a fine example of Catholicism or Christianity. And from where I sit, you are begining to sound exactly like what you are accusing him of.
weird that you say that, because it is false. there is an agreement that if you do not have a church in your area you are welcome to recieve communion in an eastern church, unless we went to athos, which is the problem. and ratzinger did worship with the jews in their temple, you can prolly find a video on here. he also, as a cardinal, denied the presence of Christ in the eucharist in many of his writings. im just speaking truth, historical fact.
It is not false. Just because you say so does not make it a fact. The Oriental and Eastern Orthodox churches are NOT in communion. You can attend an Eastern Orthodox divine liturgy, but they will NOT give you communion. Fact. There IS communion between the Roman Catholic and Malankara Orthodox church. If you do not believe me, ask your priest. You need to do a bit more research here as you are severely ignorant of the current state of Eccumenism and communion.
it is not because I say so but because History says so, fact says so. You are not, obviously, aware that yes indeed if there is no coptic church in this area i can receive communion in an eastern church, and the malankara is NOT in communion with the catholic. Orthodox receive the Body AND Blood of Christ, while the prideful popes banned the congregation from partaking of the Blood of Christ, so it is not only a lie but illogical.
I'm tired of arguing with you because you do not have a clue here. ASK an Eastern Orthodox priest (meaning don't just walk up, but speak to him beforehand) if you as an Oriental Orthodox can recieve communion. I will bet you if he is not American, he will say no. And I cannot post links here, but you can google "Catholic Malankara communion agreement". Until you get your facts straight we're done. You are too full of pride and hate to reason with. I will pray God grants you grace and wisdom.
and I should say Anglicans and Protestants too. All Christians must unite... heal the body of Christ and be a light to the nations again! This is my prayer.
Heresy? Sorry, read John 17:22; 14:2; 10:16, Acts 10:34-35. Read 1 Corinthians 1 & 11. Is Christ divided?
Factionism is condemned in the New Testament. Thus Ecumenism (TRUE ecumenism which unifies based on pursuit of the truth, not pretending we all believe the same things when we don't or compromising essential truth) is essential to the Gospel.
Have you read your bible paxcoder? John 16:7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you."
Jesus himself says HE will send the Holy Spirit in this verse. Whatever the obfuscations of eastern orthodoxy, anyone who reads the bible can plainly see that the Holy Spirit also proceeds from the Son.
You are using a verse which is talking about 'sending', an act within time, to justify the statement that the Holy Spirit proceeds pre-eternally from the Son.
Check your bible again: "I will send you the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father"
The Greek fathers spoke of the Father as the 'sole cause' of the Son and the Spirit. This is what the Creed talks about, not the action of God in time.
Saints, whom you (Orthodox) recognize to be inspired by Holy Spirit sometimes added filoque. And we agreed upon that and papacy on Council of Florence.
"The man (Pope Benedict) makes enemies every time," said Pope Shenouda III, leader of the 10 million Coptic Christians in Egypt, according to the state-run daily Al-Ahram.
the Pope is making enemies because he is defending the Gospel in a world that hates the Truth. I don't see the head of the Coptic Church taking the international criticism and assaults that Benedict XVI does. I don't recall the Coptics evangelizing the world and crushing paganism. i don't remember Coptics turning back the muslim tide to create a Christian culture that brought Light and Justice to the globe. I don't recall the Coptics doing much of anything to advance the faith in grand scale...
You are giving a lot of misinformation in your post.
To the person who asked the marriage question - yes, the Catholic Church will allow you to marry in the Catholic Church. As an Orthodox, you are allowed to receive Communion, but you are to follow the rules of your Church.
My suggestion would be for you to marry in the Catholic Church, and request to be formally admitted as COPTIC CATHOLIC on the marriage register, for both you and your spouse.
fuck yourself. stupid Australian, ex-criminal, deported from Europe. stupid idiot how can i judge if it was good or bad if i don't watch it first. with a sreen name like you you must be on crackcocaine with legs up in the air screaming. oh god I am coming.
I think Benedict has good leadership qualities myself, but I do think he's taking it a bit far by trying to merge the Eastern Church with the Roman Catholic Church.
The universal Church is united, not under any one mortal man, but under Christ. We should entertain a spiritual unity. Aside from that, there is no way the Orthodox churches and/or the Protestant denominations will allow themselves to be under the primacy of the Bishop of Rome ever again.
well, "HonestChristian", read the fathers of the church---east and west---about the primacy of the Roman Church. The primacy of the Pope was held by all orthodox Christians until the Great Schism. What is "spiritual unity" if it is not one mind and one heart? the sort of unity Jesus prayed for for His Church. (John 17:6-24)
You seem sarcastic--perhaps I've led you to believe I am being dishonest?
It's very interesting you should say that all the Church Fathers advocated the primacy of Rome. The Apostolic ones--Ignatius, Polycarp, Clement--never did any such a thing, unless my translation is inaccurate. Ignatius supported the episcopacy, but always that which was under the primacy of Christ, not his supposed vicar.
this interpretation is false. we believe that the two natures (divine and human) are united in the one person (existence or reality, "hypostasis") of Christ. you need to read the history of the council of Chalcedon. we accepted both definitions as they mean the same thing while Pope Leo forced HIS version on us, this would not be surprising, even St.Gregory of Nyssa wrote about Rome going awry in the 4th century.
this particular form of Orthodoxy is one of the eldest. the coptic church was founded by St. Mark himself, the author of the gospel of Mark, and has remained virtually unchanged for 2,000 years. one of their 3 liturgies is written by St.Mark, this is hymns being sang in coptic, the ancient pharonic language.
History doesn't lie in statuing the fact that there were 5 Patriarchates in the Ancient Church,Rome was not the only one. But the encyclopedia you referred to, maybe made by Catholic/Protestant who does not know the history of the Eastern Church, is the one that lies. The Orthodox Church did not start in 1054. It is the Roman Catholic Church that departed from the Union with the 4 other Ancient Patriachates.

Plus there are Coptic saints such as Saint Abraham the Syrian and Saint Cyril VI.
mleonetti1991 5 months ago
@mleonetti1991 The Only True pope at that time was the bishop of Rome, other sects can't ordain saints, i think you might of thought they were coptic, because coptics honored them,
“He promises to found the church, assigning immovableness to it, as He is the Lord of strength, and over this he sets Peter as shepherd.” Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on Matthew (A.D. 428).

i have many more quotes from the early Church Fathers regarding the Catholic Church, you will not find another church Father saying anything about another church.

He often represented the apostles, speaking to Christ on their behalf, and more (but expanding this needs >500 characters)
mattd259 8 months ago
So Christ still refers to Peter as a foundational rock. Also, at another level, Simon's name change recalls the OT episodes where God renamed Abram as Abraham and Jacob as Israel. Peter now stands in this biblical tradition where new names signify new God-given roles in salvation history. Also, he gives Peter (and only Peter) such binding power and authority:"I will give you the keys of the Kingdom...whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose.." etc (Mt 16:18-19)
mattd259 8 months ago
Jesus is the cornerstone of the Church...the most important structural component. I listened to something on the radio the other day about how Peter was continuously mentioned in the scriptures showing that he was first in importance regarding the apostles...pointing to his position. I believe that all the popes share in this regarding the vicor of Christ on the earth and think that somehow, we today are missing a portion of that meaning. There should be no fighting. thank you for the info.
hwiseman1 1 year ago

How do orthodox respond to Peter being the rock?
hwiseman1 1 year ago

The Orthodox church did not want to change. so CHurch sent a person holding on a sunday and slammed it on the holy alter.
The chief Cornerstonewas the largest stone, baring the greatest burden of all the stones in the structure and determined the shape, size, dimensions of the structure which it supported
mumswording 8 months ago
@mumswording Well Well. Good answer but I only Knew a Verse uttered by Christ Alone that Jesus called Peter "Cephas" in John 1:42. Later Jesus told about the Foundation of His True Church in Matt 16 : 18. If Jesus was Wrong according to YOU then WHY CONSTANTINOPLE FELL TO ISLAM "A CITY MADE BY CONSTANTINE"? NOT ROME MADE BY THE ROCK "PETER".
eraser695 8 months ago
@eraser695 Sorry but that too is incorrect. In the original Greek Christ addresses Peter as PETROS. Petros means a Small Rock (think Pebble). Then later Uses the word PETRAS when he says upon this ROCK I will build my Church. In Greek PETRAS would be a Massive stone. This is driven home later in Matthew 7:24-25 when Christ uses the word PETRAS when speaking about the wise man who built his home on the rock. Christ was very clear that he is the rock. Can U refraise your pt on Constantinople?
mumswording 8 months ago
Firstly, it would be extremely unusal if Jesus spoke to the apostles in Greek. It is almost certain he spoke to them in Aramaic (as most biblical scholars agree), and there was only one word he could have used for rock: kepha, meaning sizeable rock. When speaking to Peter, Christ says, "You are Peter (Petros) and on this rock (Petra) I will build my church". Petros meaning stone, and petra meaning big rock. Why the distinction? Peter was a man. You dont name a male the femenine form of a word.
mattd259 8 months ago
@mattd259 Sort of. Yes Christ spoke aramaic, but the universal language of all the people in this day was Greek. Like English today. The Romans spoke Greek, The apostle fisherman spoke Greek to sell fish, Christ definantly spoke Greek in preaching, and the New Testament was first written in Greek. Using the Greek, gospel was very clear in specifying that Christ differentiated in the word rock. 1 cant speculate on what Christ MAY have said in aramic when its the GREEK that is dictated
mumswording 8 months ago
@mumswording As Christ and the apostles were Galileans and their mother-tongue was Aramaic, it would have been odd for Christ to speak to them in another language. In any case, the Greek also argues that Peter was the rock. You know the verse. First Christ NAMES him Petros, the masculine form of the word rock, since, you name a male a masculine form of a word (It would be odd to name a boy Josephine instead of Joseph), and he shows the meaning of the name to be Petra (large rock).
mattd259 8 months ago
@mumswording If the gospel writer had intended to show that Peter was not suitable to be a big rock, he would have used the word petros for both cases. Also, as eraser695 mentions, the word Cephas is used in its original Aramiac in john 1:42 for example. Secondly, we do not make the case that Peter was the salvation of the world. But just as Moses had a unique role in bringing the Jews to God and the promised land, so does Peter have a unique role in bringing the Church to Christ (as His Vicar)
mattd259 8 months ago
@mattd259 Also, you must look at the entire message. U want to make the case that the salvation of the world and the foundation of the church was placed on a human? Christ says satan will not triumph over this rock yet just 3 paragraphs down Satan DOES triumph over this rock Peter as he denies even knowing Christ 3 times. Peter was no more special than John, James of the inner circle. Peter wasnt the first bishop of church. It was Peter and Paul who selected James as the bishop.
mumswording 8 months ago
@mumswording Also, Christ says that the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against HIS CHURCH, not Peter. I would say that your saying that satan defeated Peter is a exaggeration. But in any case, if Christ can turn a Saul, one of the greatest persecutors of the Chuch, into a Paul, one of the greatest fathers of the Church, ( and I say that the evils enacted through him were greater than Peters), then why cant he make a Peter out of a Simon? Also, the first bishops were instituted at the last suppr

Bishkes 1 year ago
No offense to our Orthodox brethren in the Lord, but they honor many saints who taught things they don't believe in. If sainthood is based on love for God and zeal for his precepts, but not necessarily 100% orthodox teachings, then we can't use that as a defense, arguing that any one man, no matter how saintly, explains the full truth of the faith for all time and can never be contradicted (except Christ of course, who is man but also GOD).

No history doesnt lie, crack open an encylopedia and it will say that the Catholic Church is the largest and oldest Christian faith in the world. Look up Eastern Orthodox and it will say second largest and it will also say founded in 1054AD, history doesn't lie I suggest you inform yourself
RickySyxx6 2 years ago
You should inform yourself,m that the first 7 Ecumenical Councils between the year 325-787 AD were held in the Capital City of the Eastern Roman Empire: Contantinople (Istambul, now), which was and is ( after it fell into the hands of the Turks in 1453) the Center of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Wake up man, learn real history.
masyanto 2 years ago
The Orthodox Church started in 33 AD, it is the original Apostolic Church, and the teaching is intact and never underwent changes the way it is in the Roman Catholic Church. You should return to the original Catholic & Apostolic Church, which is kept intact within Eastern Christianity. Since the departure of the West (Roman Catholic Church) from the Union with the Eastern Church in 1054 its teachings have been modified and changed.
masyanto 2 years ago
LOL the 15 encyclopedias do not know the history? Funny how they do through sources to affirm they have the correct facts. The Great Schism happend in 1054 when your church broke away. Thats okay though the Eastern rite who are in fact former Orthodox, are growing. Hmm wonder why. Keep living your lie mas. Show documentation that your church was before the Catholic Church.
RickySyxx6 2 years ago
We never broke away from anywhere. Because the Eastern Patriarchates of the East were never under the power of the Pope of Rome, but we respected the Pope as one among the five Patriarchs, and not the only one. So it was your church that broke away from the union with the other 4 Patriarchates in 1054, not us.

masyanto 2 years ago
Ask any biblical scholar even the Protestant ones they will indeed tell you that the Catholic Church is the orginal church and that all others broke away. That is a fact. Like I said present documentation of your claim that your church was before the Catholic Church, your lucky I do not quote the Church Fathers. I have no problem with the Orothodox Church at all, just call it how it is, it was your church that broke away.
RickySyxx6 2 years ago
That is right the Catholic Church is the original Church, But it is the "Ancient" Catholic Church that has 5 Patriarchs as its leaders what is meant by that Confession, not the "Roman" Catholic Church which has the Pope of Rome alone as its head. And that Ancient Catholic Church is still alive, and is continued with an unbroken succession of Bishops, Patrirachs and clergymen, from the Apostolic times until now, within the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Original Catholic and Apostolic Church.
masyanto 2 years ago
In so far as Protestantism is concerned, they are eggs that were hatched by Rome. Therefore if they talk about their ancient origin of course they know only about the Church of Rome. Because they were born in 1517, after Rome broke communion with the 4 otrher Patriarchates of "Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church" of the East in 1054.
masyanto 2 years ago
If you want to quote the Fathers of the Western Church, of course you will find what is favorable to your stand. But I can also quote the Fathers from the Eastern Church that will teach the opposites to yoiur stands. So it is the Church with the Five Patriachs which was the original Catholic Church. Just recognize the fact of history, that your Church broke fellowship with the other four Patriarchs of the Ancient Original Catholic and Apostolic Church of the East.

Or the patriarch of jerusalem who fights for the exclusion of the armenians in the Holy Sepulchre? Quite unorthodox to me. Bottomline your church broke away not mine.
RickySyxx6 2 years ago
I did answer your question: 1) I asked you to google :The History of the Orthodox Church, did you do it? 2) I asked you to obtain the book "Popes and Patriarchs". did you buy and read it. The documentations are in those articles and book
masyanto 2 years ago
No you didnt. I said present documentation of your claim, not tell me which book its in. Scan the sourced documentation that states that your church was the first and send it. Telling me to read a book is not proving it. If thats the case, read the book "One True Church." Besides your church already claimed that Rome is the Primary Patriarch. It is in 5 articles online and 2 of those cant be found in your public library. I can send you the link, there are quotes there from your church leaders

Eastern and Oriental are basically having the same teaching. I agree with the comment of "emekonen" that the schism was created by Pope Leo. The rest of the teaching and practices of both Church are substantially iun agreement.

can you answer me why St. Gregory of Nyssa wrote about how the romans thought they were better, in the 3-4th century. St. Basil also wrote how the latins had a "raised brow" being "full of pride". how can you explain that? and the countless errors the pope has made like kissing the koran or placing an idol of buddha on the altar, being blessed by a pagan priestess, i have the pictures to prove it! or worshipping with jews in the synogoge, John Chrysostom wouldnt be happy about that!
emekonen 2 years ago
Explain to me why your Christology is faulty and anti-Chalcedonian. Explain to me why you ordain children to the diaconate. Explain to me why you decided to tear apart the body of Christ.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
Chalcedonian was a misunderstanding, and actually the schism was created by Pope Leo, the heretic that wrote a letter praising Eutyches. No child is a full deacon lol, we ordain them as psalters to learn the hymns. Tear the body of Christ apart, you dont even recieve the blood during communion, another roman invention. now how about you answer my question. you need to read more, early saints warned us of Rome going awry.
emekonen 2 years ago
I do not answer to heretics. You the heretic must answer to us Latins who alone have preserved the faith and who alone have been given authority over all the Church as our see is that of Peter who is the head appointed by our Lord Jesus Christ.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
wow. why doesnt antioch make this claim? Peter was there 12 years before he went to rome. and rome has no claim as any authority. no early church father ever interpreted Mt 16:18 as the latins NONE! the early church fathers speak of how rome is arrogant and prideful though. bet you didnt know that.
emekonen 2 years ago
I bet you didn't know that you will have to answer for your caesaropapist heresy when, if you should be so lucky, get to Purgatory.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
ahh purgatory a pagan belief. the mayans, mexica, egyptians, sumerians, and the roman pagans believed this heresy. yet nowhere can we find this belief in early church history. and i dont misinterpret the fathers, you obviously have not read them. i like how you get on here and start trouble with everyone and pridefully bashe every non-catholic like the arrogant popes who forced people to kiss their feet. purgatory is pagan so is believing unbaptized babies go to hell. laughable
emekonen 2 years ago
I see where you are coming from now. If you want to battle with people like Nudua, with very small minds and no understanding of their own religion then go ahead. But do you really believe this is productive? Catholics are not burning down Coptic churches or raping Coptic girls. This Nudua is an evil moron. Let God sort him out. And believe me, He will.
capone70 2 years ago
An evil moron? Ha! It looks like if you had ever cracked open a history book in your life, you'd realize how wrong you are.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
You are as misguided as you are evil. It is not "Latins" who preserved the faith. The Catholic church has MANY rites; all preserved the faith. Not just Latins. May God forgive your heresy.
capone70 2 years ago
We Latins are not in heresy. Furthermore, if you ever endeavored to study history, you would learn that we have always been the preservers of the faith while the East has fallen to Arianism, Iconoclasm, and Caesaropapism.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
do all catholics just take actual history and distort it to their own liking? Arianism? are you serious? i dont have enough room to post the heresies of the catholic church. did you know Fr. Cozzone, a catholic priest, says that between 10-50% of catholic priests are gay. wow, im glad our priests arent members of NAMBLA, and our pope DEFINETLY wouldnt cover it up. then again we dong put idols on our altars or kiss the unholy koran. or deny the presence of Christ in the communion.
emekonen 2 years ago
I'm glad we have the courage to follow Christ instead of getting together to celebrate our ethnic heritage in churches divided by ethnic lines.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
atleast our priests arent pedophiles. our patriarchs dont place idols on altars or
force people to kiss their feet. make doctrines that state unbaptized babies that die go to hell. adopt a pagan ideology (pergatory). also did you know that the term "pope" was used by the copts, the latin church used "vicar" and later adopted the word pope. i love that i can celebrate church like the apostles without preists touching me in my pants, and with stupid pagan doctrines to adhere to.
emekonen 2 years ago
Do not speak anymore. Copts are not full Christians. If you are Eastern Orthodox, know that the integrity of the Patriarch of Constantinople was lost with Gennadios II who himself was appointed by Mehmet II, the Muslim authority.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
still cant answer for these heresies. I believe constantinope remarked "better the crescent moon than the papal slipper". no catholic has ever attempted to answer for the heresies i mentioned above, cause they cant.
emekonen 2 years ago
It's because there are no heresies in the holy Catholic Church.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
so purgatory, a pagan belief of pagan origin, is not heretical? an unbaptized infant that dies goes to hell isnt a heresy? placing an idol of buddha on the altar is not a heresy? changing the creed by adding the "fililoque" is not heresy? people do screw up from time to time, even the pope, although there is a doctrine that states the contrary. so i can understand that, our doctrine has not changed, yours has several times actually.
emekonen 2 years ago
There is nothing decreed by any Catholic council or pontiff that was not already believed by the whole Church and the Apostles.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
well you know thats a false statement and so does everyone here. there was never any infallability, there was no filique, we have many documents attesting to this. we believe in seperation of church and state which rome changed, we NEVER believed in purgatory, thats a pagan belief that you changed much later on, thats historical fact. of course youll ignore out of your arrogance which is typical for catholics and continue in your ignorant way.
emekonen 2 years ago
Based on what you just said, there was never a Trinity until First Council of Constantinople.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
Based on that statement it is clear that you have never once read the writings of the early church fathers or understand anything of early church history. the trinity has always existed, the word trinity was created by Tertullian long before any council. again your unable to address the heresies created by the roman church.
emekonen 2 years ago
If you are fortunate enough to get to Purgatory, ask the Fathers these questions. Remember too that our first pope, St. Peter, stands at the gates of Heaven.
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
Again you dont address the heresies or cite any sources for them being valid, then you spew another heresy from your mouth, St. Peter did NOT found the roman church, why would St. Paul write to the roman church if St.Peter was running it? Why doesnt Antioch make the claim you are, St. Peter founded that 12 years before he ever went to rome. Your unable to quote any sources to prove the validity of these claims, NO early church father agrees with romes interpretation AT ALL!!
emekonen 2 years ago
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
nuduaspiaggia 2 years ago
Another sure indication that you have no explaination just total arrogance and ignorance. you have perverted the holy scripture, as evidenced by the holy early church fathers interpretations, you have added pagan doctrines to yours and STILL cannot refute it with one single source besides, Rome says so! Historical fact proves you wrong, early church fathers prove you wrong, scripture proves you wrong, yet you continue. "the desire for power is the mother of all heresies" St. John Crysostom.

ok then those things i mentioned above that WE consider heresies, explain them to me. cite the sources from where they come, why the former pope did those things. why the fililoque, why change the creed? show me any early church fathers interpretation of Mt 16:18 in Romes favor. prove to me these ARE NOT heresies. over all this debating both now and before you have avoided this question continually, what are you scared of?
emekonen 2 years ago
Brothers, let's not fight over things that are not true!
The Oriental Orthodox are not monophysites, check the statements of Coptic Pope Shenouda III.
XSC3 2 years ago
IIRC the Orthodox Church has taught that the Church in Rome was founded by St.s Peter and Paul.
Irenaeus of Lyons taught this in "Against Hereies" in the 2nd century. Last I checked he's still a saint and Church Father. Why doubt him?
XSC3 2 years ago
The Catholic Church is not heretical for teaching the Trinity. The Trinity is just a word given to a concept that has always been an authentic part of the true faith. If it is false, how do we explain the fact that Jesus Christ is God (and man), the Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, YET there is but one God? (and that the scripture makes clear these three are PERSONS and that they often appear separate or together as if they are more than "hats" God puts on at different times).
XSC3 2 years ago
When did I say that the Catholic church is heretical for teaching the trinity? I never said that! I am Orthodox we believe in the Trinity.

A Catholic "converting" to a Coptic church is like parking in lot A instead of lot B at Disneyland; both have a shuttle to take you to the same place.
capone70 2 years ago
no actually its not.
emekonen 2 years ago
This means abandoning petty pride and ego which can only bring evil.
capone70 2 years ago
well your wrong, the vast majority of Eastern Orthodox do not consider us heretics. and just being apostolic doesnt mean a thing when you have all the heresies that the catholic church has. our pope kisses no koran, our pope would never put an idol of buddha on the altar, our pope never forced people to kiss their feet. this guy nudua is fine example of catholicism, arrogant, prideful, condescending, and ignorant.
emekonen 2 years ago
First, YOU are wrong as Eastern Orthodox will NOT allow you communion because technically you are still in schism. Second, JP II is dead and in the grave. Pope Benedict would never kiss a Koran. Yes, Nudua is a moron, but not a fine example of Catholicism or Christianity. And from where I sit, you are begining to sound exactly like what you are accusing him of.
capone70 2 years ago
weird that you say that, because it is false. there is an agreement that if you do not have a church in your area you are welcome to recieve communion in an eastern church, unless we went to athos, which is the problem. and ratzinger did worship with the jews in their temple, you can prolly find a video on here. he also, as a cardinal, denied the presence of Christ in the eucharist in many of his writings. im just speaking truth, historical fact.
emekonen 2 years ago
It is not false. Just because you say so does not make it a fact. The Oriental and Eastern Orthodox churches are NOT in communion. You can attend an Eastern Orthodox divine liturgy, but they will NOT give you communion. Fact. There IS communion between the Roman Catholic and Malankara Orthodox church. If you do not believe me, ask your priest. You need to do a bit more research here as you are severely ignorant of the current state of Eccumenism and communion.
capone70 2 years ago
it is not because I say so but because History says so, fact says so. You are not, obviously, aware that yes indeed if there is no coptic church in this area i can receive communion in an eastern church, and the malankara is NOT in communion with the catholic. Orthodox receive the Body AND Blood of Christ, while the prideful popes banned the congregation from partaking of the Blood of Christ, so it is not only a lie but illogical.
emekonen 2 years ago
I'm tired of arguing with you because you do not have a clue here. ASK an Eastern Orthodox priest (meaning don't just walk up, but speak to him beforehand) if you as an Oriental Orthodox can recieve communion. I will bet you if he is not American, he will say no. And I cannot post links here, but you can google "Catholic Malankara communion agreement". Until you get your facts straight we're done. You are too full of pride and hate to reason with. I will pray God grants you grace and wisdom.

no, i dont want heretics in my church, the orthodox can unite but rome is full of heretical popes all the way back to pope leo.
emekonen 2 years ago
no that equals heresy, read about St. Mark of Ephesus. ecumenism is the modern day tower of babel.
emekonen 2 years ago

I sent you the full quote from Irenaeus, emekonen. I pray you will read it!

Whatever the obfuscations of eastern orthodoxy, anyone who reads the bible can plainly see that the Holy Spirit also proceeds from the Son.
dickglover 3 years ago
You are using a verse which is talking about 'sending', an act within time, to justify the statement that the Holy Spirit proceeds pre-eternally from the Son.
Check your bible again: "I will send you the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father"
The Greek fathers spoke of the Father as the 'sole cause' of the Son and the Spirit. This is what the Creed talks about, not the action of God in time.
vernetyellowtail 3 years ago
Saints, whom you (Orthodox) recognize to be inspired by Holy Spirit sometimes added filoque. And we agreed upon that and papacy on Council of Florence.
paxcoder 3 years ago
>Catholic Church adds "and the Son" making the Holy Spirit a lesser degree than the two Hypostases.
What? No!
>u can't be united with someone whose faith is incorrect and then be granted a unity with Jesus Christ through Communion.
You can.Orthodox mass is accepted as valid in Catholicism, for example.
>they do not give Holy Communion for non Catholics.
>Catholic Church also does not recognize the sacraments of Coptic Church.
Wrong!
I know a Catholic woman, married in the RCC to an Orthodox.

the Pope is making enemies because he is defending the Gospel in a world that hates the Truth.

The universal Church is united, not under any one mortal man, but under Christ. We should entertain a spiritual unity. Aside from that, there is no way the Orthodox churches and/or the Protestant denominations will allow themselves to be under the primacy of the Bishop of Rome ever again.
AnHonestChristian 3 years ago
well, "HonestChristian", read the fathers of the church---east and west---about the primacy of the Roman Church. The primacy of the Pope was held by all orthodox Christians until the Great Schism. What is "spiritual unity" if it is not one mind and one heart? the sort of unity Jesus prayed for for His Church. (John 17:6-24)
dickglover 3 years ago
You seem sarcastic--perhaps I've led you to believe I am being dishonest?
It's very interesting you should say that all the Church Fathers advocated the primacy of Rome. The Apostolic ones--Ignatius, Polycarp, Clement--never did any such a thing, unless my translation is inaccurate. Ignatius supported the episcopacy, but always that which was under the primacy of Christ, not his supposed vicar.

Oriental Orthodox.
The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is the Non-Chalcedonian Church of the See of Saint Mark.

this interpretation is false. we believe that the two natures (divine and human) are united in the one person (existence or reality, "hypostasis") of Christ. you need to read the history of the council of Chalcedon. we accepted both definitions as they mean the same thing while Pope Leo forced HIS version on us, this would not be surprising, even St.Gregory of Nyssa wrote about Rome going awry in the 4th century.

Beautiful hymn, may God bless the Coptic CHurch
Copt4eva 4 years ago
this particular form of Orthodoxy is one of the eldest. the coptic church was founded by St.
