@ihaveloosefeet06 Yep, Schubert was merciless... It is so text/poetry heavy that the diction and spoken aspect have to be spot on and crystal clear, yet the vocal technique behind it is often super difficult. It's not simply having the range for it, it is USING your voice amidst all of the insane text.
For this song I prefer the Wunderlich/Giesen version- it's a bit slower and more lyrical. Of course, that makes it also a bit less splendid, but as a matter of taste I'd choose that version if I had to pick a favourite. Luckily I don't have to and can fully appreciate and enjoy this rendition of one of my most beloved Schubert songs.
Hi!! I think it's open season with these songs. Fairly sure that a lot of well-known females have sung this cycle, even though it may seem odd. The music is so great, I don't think it matters. Good luck with audition!! Good choice! Thanks for commenting:)
This helps too, even if his voice is rather deeper than mine. I can listen to the inflection, he uses very good dynamics, and his pronounciation is very good too!
Now that really woke me up! Still my favorite recording of this cycle. In fact, it's in my top 5 of all his recordings. And that's saying something! Loved the photos you chose too, Barb. Thanks!
How can u & I agree so closely on this? I adore this cycle & performance, too. DFD & Moore are unsurpassable. 1st one I heard & it hit me between the eyes - I've never looked back nor felt any differently:) Thanks for your comment!! -b xx
Oh Glenmed! You got that right;) Haha .. These early collaborations between DFD & Moore were so great! Well, I could go on all night. Thanks for commenting!!
Dieskau is god!
I'm singing this for my voice lesson, and it's pretty damn hard! lol. listening to him really helps though, being a bass/baritone and all, haha.

Dieskau is truly the authority on Schubert...

You see, even the biggest man hops happily along when he's in love - and sprightly Gerald joins the dance! What fun!
