There have always been outlaws, I am just saying that the old west wasn't some kind of giant ongoing shootout as the movies portray. It was in fact far less violent than today's world. But I digress.

I am not for lawlessness, of course we need laws. I just don't think that law enforcement should be monopolized by police departments. Obviously they have very little incentive to provide quality service if their revenue is guaranteed through taxation.

Well, you can't believe Hollywood on these things, the "wild west" would be much more aptly termed the "mild west" if you look into the actual history. And why would everyone just start attacking each other if there were no police? It is far more beneficial for humans to trade peacefully. I am working on a video series which will address all of these fallacies. It will show why the world would be infinitely better off w/o the police.

i understand it is much more difficult to be critical of the police when these are some of your family members. you don't have to hate cops, you should just take a critical look at how the system is set up...the taxation and lack of competition/liability will greatly tend to produce corruption and abuse. this can be easily solved by abolishing the police and allowing for the free market to take those services over.

the point is, we don't need police to track people down, or seize people, or bring people to justice. there are already private detectives and skip tracers, all the rest can be privately contracted out by individuals. the root of the problem is the monopoly privilege afforded to police by the government...their revenue is based on taxation, ie, theft, so that destroys their incentive to provide quality service.

all i am saying is I should have the freedom to opt out of paying for police and instead either provide my own security, or hire a private agency to do it for me. b/c the police are not exposed to competition, and b/c their revenue stream is based on taxation, they can get away with abuse and not feel the ramifications.

moreover, they have almost no liability. if they get sued the money doesn't even come out of the police dept budget, so again they can easily get away with abuse.

also, about the pregnant woman...it is not the job of police to dole out punishments, that is for the courts. if she was breaking the law, he should have simply arrested her. there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for beating a woman to the point of miscarriage, that is insanely criminal. if that cop didn't have a badge and a gun they would have locked his ass up for murder and assault.

first of all, cops lie all the time on police reports, so let's not regard his testimony as fact, especially when he has every incentive to lie about the circumstances surrounding the murder he committed. neither of us know what really happened, but you seriously cannot argue that a grown man, regardless of how uppity the woman was getting, could not simply constrain her and arrest her, and had to resort to such a severe beating as to kill the child in her womb.

I have respect for officers around here because they seem to do their jobs properly (around here anyway.) most people dont like them, true. largely due to people's "lifestyle choice" (drugs) causing them to call cops "pigs". The hardest thing about starting any kind of grassroots movement is that the large majority of people are police apologists even when shown incidents like this and have a knee-jerk reaction to anyone even questioning the authority of a cop.
