Who would have thought that the most hard-hit areas are in southern Taiwan?! Torrential downpours triggered the worst flooding in 50 years, causing deadly landslides and mudslides buried hundreds of people. The magnitude of devastation is unimaginable!! Some townships are still covered in muds almost a month after the disaster. Taiwanese government indeed needs to work faster.
slinkjaly: The study and appreciation of natural phenomena is nothing wrong. Anyway, I stayed in Kaosiung County for a year and the lowlying countryside is very subceptible to flooding. We now know that rain kills more than wind in a typhoon. The slow moving speed of the typhoon is the reason for the record breaking rainfall.
Sickcow: I don't find your comment funny. Mind your words.
@aad1969: this video is taken in Taiwan, we don't eat dog and monkey! and not only Asian eat meat, people around the world eat meat as well ! McDonald kill animals, KFC kill animals they're all from North America!
lol what? I do love storms, what's wrong with that? I think their beautiful, and if a storm wipes away my friends and family, so be it, there's no point hating on nature.
You're just a sad little pessimist that's what you are.
do you guys have any idea how many people have died and lost their homes? I'm half Taiwanese, it makes me really upset to see you making fun of this serious event.
It is reported that there are 117 people have died until 8/14.Can you read Chinese?小林村in高雄,there are more than 600 people haven't been found...and the village who are saved said those people may be hopeless...God blessTaiwan
dont kill inocent animals to eat and destroying the planet,,,,dont eat dogs, monkeys,,,and the disaster will never stop, the planet has an eye and it can see whatever the human does on it, so avoid killing animals respet nature,,,respet the animals on the ocean dont kill them,,,the sea get mad because this, and it will go to you and cover the streets with its water. you want peace respet so dont kill nature, china thailand, birmania japan,,etc, etc, all those countries. God is looking at you !!!
man! you all don't have heart then do or say whatever u want at your own house, but please don't write your pathetic comments here, because unlike you people the rest of us have family, friends, a heart and sentiments and we feel for these people.
you guys sould be ashamed about youself while those people are struggling life outthere I can't belive that you have time for joke . Look at them .. they need help because of this typhoon people become homeless they lost their family ..house .. job ..everything . If you have sympahty please help them cos they need your help go to world vision website .. make the effort help them to build new home
More CO2 in the atm > warming of the planet > melting glaciers > more moister in the atm > more severe storms. My guess is storms such as this will be more common. Thanks to all the weak politicians and the fossil fuel industry.
I love the fact that there is a strange sense of day-to-day normality, like taxis still going, drivers observing traffic signals. Fabulous! Even the BBC (new website) has some of your footage,

Great storm footage guys.. even if some people have attempted to turn the comments section into preacher's corner
Nobody 'sends' these storms to punish or kill anyone, they naturally happen, and when they hit dense population area's.. sadly people are killed
It's very sad... but please stop looking for people to blame for it
