While this IS an awesome tradition and I got chills.. I kinda like what seems like will be the new Pens tradition where the fans actually SING the anthem as shown in this video last night: /watch?v=hjK8xlTM_GY&feature=related
I love traditions like that! Us Flames fans have always had the C of Red during the playoffs, and we shout out the "see" and "red" during the Star Spangled Banner. That is all we shout out to, nothing disrespectful- but it is fun!
It started during the Edmonton Oilers series, when the Canadians booed our National Anthem. Chicago turned around and cheered our National Anthem. There you have it.
A Blackhawks game is the last true venue of patriotism. Their cheering for the song and the country. To be there while the Anthem is being sung is part of the Blackhawks experience. How many events where the National Anthem is sung do you say " We have to get there for the Anthem". Here, thats what you do...get there for the Anthem. Be part of it . GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!
ahh i remember the good ole days when my grandma used to own one of the skyboxes in the uc i miss this atmosphere but i cant wait to come back to this again next friday this is the best you will ever find GO HAWKS RESPECT THE PAST FEAR THE FUTURE!! =]
At the Stadium these seats were king. They would place you with a full rink view and as close to the ice as the front row on the glass well they were hanging balconies of arenas a lot closer then but I guess it wasnt closer than the front row since it was higher but the full rink view and the effect of the steepness of the 300 level and the closeness it felt like you were hanging OVER the action. Great drama up there too. Fucking fun.
That tradition of throwing an opponent's home run ball back is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. A pro ball, that sees game play, that's involved in one of the coolest parts of the game gets tossed back because it wasn't off of a Cub bat? That and the Hawks anthem have nothing to do with each other, just like the Hawks and Cubs shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. This is simply one of the best traditions in sports, period. Leave it at that.
It was a tradition at Chicago Stadium. Went to many Blackhawk games there and it was outstanding. The Stadium always Rocked. Chicago Stadium was smaller and it sometimes brought tears to your eyes.
We are Chicagoans, we are original and proud. Not like the phony people of L.A. or the arrogant that live in New York City. I am a Cubs fan also and we throw back the visiting teams homerun balls back.
I am from Chicago and agree with ur comment till the last line, dont throw the ball back, give it to a kid, he would love that, but instead u throw back, and little never ges a ball
I was at the game it started at .Hawks vs Mosco Dynamo.Dick Redmond got tossed but that was the first anthem that the crowds cheered all the way from start to finish. before that they only cheered at the last 3 lines.

Not really. In fact, not even a little bit. Everyone is just clapping while the guy is singing. Maybe if people actually sung the national anthem w/o the solo singer, then it would be good.
One of the best traditions in sports. Osgood of the Red Wings said it best on CBC's hockey night in Canada. The Hawks are young, fast and fearless. We in Detroit have been waiting for this matchup since 1995. Good Luck, but Go Wings.
according to my dad, a sports journalist and a chicago native, it all started in 1980, the night the US hockey team won the gold medal.. USA USA USA everyone started chanting and its been tradition since to cheer during the national anthem at blackhawks games.. he was there.
i saw all the great playoff losses to Wayne in the early 80's on the USA network. I thought it started then. The horn--the Messman voice-Nothing like it.
@blackhawkfan54 all the posts you make are trying to stir up trouble, so i figured you were the one who enjoyed the arguing, and since you don't allow comments on your page...
@Rokpah agree with outkast...plus none of us Americans know the words. Yeah. We suck. Seriously, 80 something percent of Americans do not know the words. GO HAWKS!
@Rokpah You clearly have not been to a Hawks game. I would have thought the same thing until I went to a game. It is without question the most invigorating National Anthem I've ever seen and I've seen it 8+ times. Give it a shot.
doesnt it give you the chills? i was at game 4 against vancouver. in fucking credible. rockey wirtz i dont have a clue what the fuck you did but keep doing it!!! DE TROIT SUCKS!!!! DE TROIT SUCKS!!!!!
What a shame.......now we'll have to wait till next season to hear any of the Canadien National Anthem....The Nucks put up a good fight, but these are the comeback kids....look out Detroit..or Anaheim these Hawks have proven they are for real...........
YOU KNOW THE FLAMES FANS MIGHT ALL WEAR READ AND LOOK NEAT....BUT NOTHIN WILL EVER BEAT HAWKS FANS....HOW LOUD WE WERE, THE SHIT WE WERE YELLIN AT THE FLAMES PLAYERS AS THEY CAME OUT TO WARM UP...EVEN LITTLE KIDS YELLIN SAYIN F**k YOU
You all did us proud. I wish I could have been there, but I live in SC. I had goosebumps and tears listening to it. I was at a lot of those games in the old barn. The tradition lives on.
Haha ... that was awesome. Too bad us West Coasties were stuck watching the third period of MON-BOS instead of the start of this game. Let's hope they don't make the same mistake again Saturday. GO HAWKS!!!!
i am a canucks fan but ive gotta admit madhouse is fukin amazing and chicago jerseys are best in sports. period.
