  • absolutely incredible! im learning this song now and using this video for reference every now and then to see how close im coming to his speed. WOW. so much talent

  • Whenever I feel like a skilled pianist at 15 when starting this kind of piece, there's always the 11-year-old that schools me!

  • when I was 11, I was barely learning to read music. this kid is something else.

  • Thank you for your kind words.

  • I'm auditioning to study music at a University today with this as one of my pieces. I'm almost 18, and here's to hoping I can play it as well as an 11 year old. Great work, Richard!

  • The real full name of this piece is "Ojos criollos, Danse Cubaine". Named half in Spanish, half in French, like many of his works. Have in mind he was born and raised in New Orleans to a Creole mother and French grandmother from Haiti. At 13 yo. he was sent to France by his father to study piano. His best friend, the Cuban pianist and composer N. R. Espadero, arranged many of his works, as per Gottschalk's sisters request, after L.M.G. passed away at the age of 40 in Brazil.

  • Sounds too much like chopin for my taste. I prefer this style of music to be a tad more leisurely.

  • Hi PV, I think it would be good if you added the English title "Creole Eyes" to your title so people will instantly see and recognize it. Especially since Gottschalk was an American composer.

    Thanks and fantastic work!

  • Thank you for your great suggestion! I have added "Creole Eyes" to the title.

  • @softlavender Actually, "Ojos criollos" was the title Gottschalk gave the work himself. Gottschalk trained in Europe, and most of his best-known pieces were published there, hence the foreign titles - usually in French, occasionally in Spanish.

  • Exquisite. Beautiful and full of excitement and elegance.

  • Thank you for your comments!

  • Exquisite. Made my day. Beautiful, elegant, and pops with excitement.

  • Bravo! What a secure sense of rhythm you have. Thanks for sharing your talent.

  • By the way, this piece (which translates in English to "Creole Eyes"), is actually Opus 37. Could you fix that? Thanks!

  • Thanks for catching this mistake! It has been corrected.

  • Really wonderful. This is the best Gottschalk performance I've heard on either YouTube or Rhapsody.

  • bravo...

  • Wow Wonderful. Bravo! Bravissimo!!!

  • Heel mooi, die frazering en de duidelijk hoorbare linker en rechter hand !!

    Schitterend !!

  • My niece had to play this particular piece for her examination. I think you play it better and you are much younger. You are obviously a gifted young man.

  • Astonishing execution and interpretation for an 11 year old. Spectacular!

  • great job

you might want to lower the seat

  • Thank you.

I sit high for a few reasons:

As you can see from the video, my arms are level with the piano keys which allows more control

It also allows me to be more powerful when I play.

  • BRAVO!!

  • Excellent!!!!!!

  • Bravo!

  • Thank you!

  • Well done
