This video means something to me as my Poppy and Nan O'Dwyer's house is the blue one in the background in the beginning of the video. I believe that is Victoria St behind Babs. I'm American born and my mother is a Newfoundlander, father was in the US military. The top right window is the bedroom where my brother and I slept during visits.
that is just down town st.john's. in my opinion it's one of the nicest but there are lots other great places too. bowering park is an awesome place to me on a nice day. as well as Thomas amusements. it's no Disney land but it still fun. but my favorite place to be is the mall:D
Interesting. Most of the Harp Seal Hunt advocates claim that the St. Laurence Bay area of Newfoundland is one of the most economically depressed regions of Canada. Brand new Harley-Davidsons, a film festival, and even the service of a threatened species of fish, Cod, sold at $17.95 a serving. No. No, I don't think the standard of living would drop if the commercial seal hunt of baby seals for their fur were brought to a close again.
It's St. John's not places around the bay aka country , there is more to newfoundland then St. John's. there is about 100 000 and the rest of the island is around 400 000 people so that tells you its a small % of what your looking at. for all you know you could be looking at someone that works in the oil industry. but there are a lot of people having a hard time because of the fishery and seal hunt, you wont see that in st. john's but around the bay in little community's you will.
I am planning to St. John, but I want to know if it is safe for a 50 year old woman traveling alone, with a heavy Spanish accent and black hair.

At first I thought she was retarded. But then I realized that she's quite funny, not all that informative, but a very sweet and funny tour guide.
God be with you, Babs!
