Wow I really like both Prince and Gary Numan. This is just plain horrible. strangely I keep listening to it cos its sooo bad. Its like a bad toothache you cant stop messing with. Oh dear. On the positive Gary Numan my machines with battles is the best i've heard him for hears. Peace out numanoids!
My husband and I like to pretend that Gary says,'Let's get to rammin' part instead of the female singer. Believe me, hearing him in his unique way of vocal delivery-even if only in your mind is-HILARIOUS. ^_^
I love Numan to pieces but this is just horrible. I stopped going to the gigs when he was doing this drivel. Not just a Prince cover but THE most cringeworthy Prince song of them all. Thank fuck Gary got back on the ball.
Numan was in a hole when he had to resort to covering other people's stuff. He now hates the album this was taken off. Best Numan album is I, Assassin from 82 i think. Amazing for the time. You can't compare the two artists they're really in different genres with a slight overlap here and there.
This basically takes the Sign o The Times LP and takes a big shit in the middle so little drops fall through the hole, I'm really gonna say it, Justin Bieber is better.
When this came out, I said "there goes the career of the great Gary Numan" and still to this day, I qoute it. Every album since this, has been more dissapointing than anything he does. So today, I actually think of this, as his final attempt at being himself. It does have maybe 3 or 2 good songs, but this cover is not one of them.
He nailed the guitar perfect, but it would've been better without the backing vocals. Overall, not a bad cover. Better than Marilyn Manson's version of Down in the Park.
This is where Numan went wrong...This album, and Outland is what fucked his career to hell and back, and by the looks of it today, he still has'nt put anything out worth a shit since the 80's.
Comparing Numan and Prince? I don't know about that. Numan had his days in the 80's, but Prince now sounds better than he did during the Purple Rain era.
Guitar wise, Prince is a hell of a guitar player, Numan could never do a solo like him
As for the piano, Numan is a hell of a pianoist, but Prince wrote better songs
and compare their recent activity. Numan has'nt had an album worth a shit since Metal Rhythm. Prince's newer material, sounds better with the guitars than his guitar playing did in the 80's. Numan can't even put guitar in his music anymore. So I say Prince all the way.
How can you even compare Prince and Numan like that? Numan has been burnt out since he wanted to rip off NIN. and as for Prince, he's had his ups and downs but I can't see no way you can compare them. Prince is defaintly the better musician. He smokes Numan any day of the week, espcally as of 2009.
Not that bad, really. It does have Gary Numan -elements there - at least the end notes (dark synthesizer sound).
Even if the album Machine+Soul sounds somewhat tired and depressed it's more alive than say Exile (ugh those endless drum loops)... I may change my opinion later tho :)
I agree with you defaintly. Ths was Numan's last album that was any good at all. Might not be that good, but it's much better than everything he's done since this.
I realise this was 1992. But for me this is the most recent Numan stuff I've heard. I've basically relied on GaryNumanAlbums for Numan material. And I must say the majority of Numan's stuff is very good, Dance (1981), I, Assassin (1982) and Berserker (1984) are all excellent albums. But this is such a drop in qualityl from the most previous album I've heard: Strange Charm (1986). I can't see where Numan is in this.
If you're speaking on quality, such as the performance of the audio, this was CDQ for something back in '92. I myself don't really care for the album, I only uploaded it since the album was'nt on here.

Numan a 'hell of a pianoist'? Don't know where you've got that from. By his own admission, Numan is strictly a one-fingered player.

Prince's songs are hard to cover. No one has really ever covered them good enough. This is'nt that great either, but atleast he tried.

And once again thanks for taking the time uploading Numan's music (the highs and the lows).
