It's quite hard to compare Rudess and Moore

Moore was a more melodic and atmospheric, and then fitted quite well into DT's golden years(I&W, Awake) since those album is probably the "proggiest" it ever got in their career

Rudess is more "crazy" and jazz influenced and is therefore more suiting for the metal era in DT's career, in albums like SDOIT and ToT.

Both are good, but if DT REALLY wants to make "another I&W" like they promised when they made "BCASL", they need Kevin Moore.

@Ghaztromat : True. Though, I must say that SFaM with Rudess was very successful, mostly I think for his focus on the piano feel of his skill, which is very nicely suited to a prog sound. His melodies in BCaSL were somewhat simple and only reflected ballads, as opposed to things like Dance of Eternity that were wild and classically styled.
