The newer version has cameras built in and has the ability to recognize and learn certain properties about objects.

I suspect they need to evolve the software so that it starts with a 2 dimensional perception of world then later on it can step up to a 3 dimensional world. If it had to use the camera in its head, it would have to deal with another dimension of complexity to the task of navigation.

Yes, Asimo has good AI but I think it still needs help. I've noticed in a lot of conventions and Asimo shows, the floor/stage where Asimo is has little squares lining up to form some kind of path. I've also noticed that Asimo follows those paths to his destination, if I'm not mistaken.

Good to see this evolve. It's the ultimate goal to have it freely walk around and make its own choices. Although I think it's only practable in a static lab environment (with prefixed objects it can work with, doors, handles etc) instead of a random house. It also needs to logic (and more protective material) that makes it less harmful when it falls, and it needs to stand itself up again.
