I just made my own version this evening. cucumbers, Athenos greek plain yogurt with a pinch of salt and garlic powder. it was the best sauce ive ever tasted.
@fortgreene31 Hi there, the black stuff I think you are referring to is Dried Mint. You can find the written recipe on the website HowToExpo or follow the link on the info page of this video. Thanks.
@HowToExpo i have to find out where i could get dried mint from. Maybe from my local health spot i go to. I have some halal lamb in my deep freezer. I went to trader joes to get Tzatziki sauce. Real good. I will try to make my own sauce save money that way. I also have to find some yogurt thats not dairy if possible. Im trying to stay away from the dairy. Hopefully they have some vegan yogurt or something.
I AM GREEK AND THIS IS 70% WRONG!!!!!! WE DO NOT PUT INSIDE MINT.. ONLY CUCUMBER ( BUT NOT CUT IN PIECES) GARLIC , A LITTLE SPOON OF OLIVE OIL AND SALT. FOR BEST RESULTS DO NOT USE LOW FAT YOGURT... CAUSE IT WILL BE LIKE WATER SAUCE AFTER TEN MINUTES. AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE WATER FROM THE CUCUMBER.!
@nhannum123 This is not the greek version demonstrated in the video. It is more like Middle Eastern. There is always mint in yogurt soup in the Middle east. Some people use with very thick yogurt for Jajik others like it thin They even add a little water and ice cubes to serve with kebobs and pilafs. I have never tried your version of Jajik it's interesting and I am sure delicious. I have been in greece once long time ago and I love the greek food. Thank.you for your input. .
Oh I know this dish! It is very delicious. I was taught to use this as a sort of dressing for white rice. I love it. I've never tried it/made it with garlic. Hmm.. I shall try this the next time I make it. Thank you for all of your fantastic videos!!
Very similar to Indian raita! I'm happy you mentioned dry mint. I haven't been able to find fresh mint in my area and I never thought about using the dried mint. I can't wait to try this. Thanks a bunch for the recipe! :)

@dimitra29 omg..do not shout !! lol ^_^
btw you need to use real yogurt ,not "unidentified white item" looks like yogurt but taste like cream or puding ..
best result make your own yogurt at home but this time your starter must be taken from herders
..not market yogurt..
if its not getting sour after 3 days its not real yogurt,believe me..
i prefer 3 days old yogurt btw..more fermented is better ..
