  • I remember hearing them in the wee hours of the night for the first time, on Mexicos RADIO UNAM, a college radio station which usually plays alternative, underground and national folk music) back in the nineties, and thought to myself: These guys are really, really good! And bought the album the very next day {"Everybody's Got One"(1994)}. Come to think of it, perhaps its a bit surprising that it was available at the CD store.

Echobelly is THE underrated band of the nineties par excellence.

  • Funny, liked them at the time but dont remember it being quite as good as this

  • What I would have given to see them when they opened for Morrissey...what an amazing double bill!

  • I'm not sure that they did that I recall. Morrissey went to some Echobelly gigs and invited the band to support him in the States but the tour was cancelled.

  • I am almost positive they opened in the UK for him...remember reading in Q that sonya was on a shopping spree!

  • Awesome show in 1995 at The Melkweg in Amsterdam!

  • Wow! Can't believe you were at the Melkweg gig in 1995. Only about 60 people there including 6 of us from UK on a theatre tour. I was the only Echobelly fan at the time but dragged them along and yes, it was FANTASTIC!!!

  • Oh.. memories! SO NINETIES! Love Sonya

  • poking fun at the "wholesome, white" image of england. remember bands like echobelly, cornershop, skunk anansie, tricky, audioweb and many others were never the "faces" of selling "brit pop" to the massses. that's why she wrote "my country too" across the union jack on her t-shirt

  • Sorry, but you're wrong chief. Select magazine were the dudes who invented the term Britpop for the 90s and they promoted Echobelly loads. Put them right in there with Blur, St Etienne & others.

  • I never liked the term Britpop but Sonya did like the idea at the time that British music was being promoted across the globe as a result.

She also later said that she felt that Echobelly hadn't really fitted in.

  • so underated, some of the best songs ive heard, such a unique voice ... hated indie crap, they were so much better than all that stuff .. they deserve so much more, amazing musicians

  • Sadly, I don't think Echobelly's greatness was ever properly recognized -- with all the other bands that were popular in the mid-1990's (i.e. Gene, Sleeper, Elastica...etc.) Echobelly were, and still are, a cut above the rest. One of my enduring and most fond memories of that time was seeing Echobelly at "Bottom of the Hill" in San Francisco -- a tiny club just a bit bigger than your living and dining rooms put together. Fabulous.

  • This song reminds me to be young

  • Excellent tune...but what were they thinking with that wig?!?

  • Echobelly! you still kick arse. Sonia's voice is wonderful!

  • This song brings the memories flooding back...it's sort of been completely forgotten but it was huge on the Indie scene at the time 1994? I think.
