  • protools, protools, protools, protools? how much can you say the word "pro-tools"? DAMN, you can use whatever you want, The music Software is not the KEY to be a better producer... it's what u make of it... who want a "pro-tools" setup and buy everything that works with only "pro-tools"... so you spend a 10.000 euro's/dollars on "pro-tools" equipment... damn dude, just think in a way of a starting producer... you get Fruityloops....and when you feel u want more just stick with Cubase/Ableton!

  • wft was that that video sucks u suck niga!!!

  • [spoiler of the video]Hi there are some things you can use if you want to build a studio.

  • 1. I can't understand you

    2. This video is dumb

    3. This video is dumb

  • it would be better to tell us how to push the exit button

  • you suck big time

  • can you use your built in laptop microphone?

  • Heya friends ... Pro Tools 9 will work w almost any hardware. They opened it up! Yay!

Also, if you all are interested we got a world-class room designer/engineer to talk about how to best set up your studio for killer results ... check out SecretPros =)

  • Great info. on building a home studio. Using Protools, computer interfaces is great if you spend the time to learn how to efficiently use them. Safari/Windows has unexpectedly closed you window..........no thanks. Conservative bets are recording on stand alone units and send your best effort to the pros. for mastering. It's worth it.

  • don't watch. waste of life.

  • Industry standard!... when I heard this, I then wanted Protools. So I bought it and had to spend a week sorting out my pc.

Oh well, it's been a learning curve.

I would say that CuBase is the Industry standard for a pc

He should mention that a mac is the industry standard for music recording.... that would also piss people off.

  • this video isnt as bad as other ones lol it should be known by now that expert village is strictly for beginners, not to give you information that you couldnt have acquired anywhere else.

  • i have a usb microphone can i use that with that

  • Expert Village is gay

  • Expert village? more like the village idiots

  • nobody seems to know why pro tools is worshiped.... its because the hardware was worshipped with emagic's logic platinum running it, then apple buys emagic, says FU to pc, and ppl go fuck, ill just use the software that comes with this awsome hardware processor boost.... (this is back when computers were weak, now it's retarded...)

  • THIS IS SICK

  • there is no industry standard for audio recording :)

  • for protools, does it HAVE to be a digidesgin interface? or i could use any audio interface?

  • IS HE A ROBOT?

  • really man, all im lookin for is a really cheap/free recording software/program. Audacity isnt that great, if anyone knows anything, please let me know

  • @tpimpin17 "Cool Edit Pro Version 2.0" that a good software, after you done downloading It look for the license of "Peter Quistgard" :D

  • @tpimpin17 You can get the new Mbox 3 mini. At Guitarcenter their package cost 449.99 for 2 moniters, cables, an mxl 990 Microphone I believe and a boom microphone stand. Pretty good deal to get you started

  • @208fern thnx man. i;ll look up on that

  • This guy suckz..Your FiiiiiiiiiiirRRed

  • he is like... "I nailed it!"

  • Tells me nothing!

  • are ALL of expertvillages 138,179 videos 1 minute long???

  • @cheezehawk

No, unfortunately some of them are longer....

  • HOWCAST is WAY better than Expert Village....just my opinion

  • i learned more matching "making of" videos than from this

  • "Duuuude... lets smoke a spliff then make an expert village video. We can totally spend 1:19 telling people what hardware they need to run Pro Tools. Cool. Yeah man."

  • how much is pro tools mbox and mic all together

  • lmao what a fancy studio! lmaooooooo

    ive pished myself lol

  • Why buy software and proprietary hardware that goes out of function when you can get Cubase or any other software that is cheaper and does everything protools does and doesn't cost 10k or more???

  • @pancakepie2 Because Protools with it's DSP cards and dedicated hardware just sounds better!

  • @AdamDallas Ok, did not know that.

  • i use pro tools and i love it but its a system hog.

  • Tools hahahaha...

I challege you people to have real professionals in the recording industry. That would be worth my time to watch. Not these guys who recorded Roy down the street for $50 and a six pack.

    Freakin' joke.

  • @waguragaturuku

What you said makes no sense.

We are challenging! ........Just suggesting! Wtf?

  • If You Wanna Get Free Suff Like Imacs Macbooks Ipods Studio Stufff Ect Or Money Holla At Me Asap!!! -Networking

  • guyz..

INDEED TO SPEND THOUSAND EURO IN TOOLS, SW, HW ECC... GO IN A FUCKIN PROFESSIONAL STUDIO AND LET WORKS SOUND ENGINEERS!!! BUY "PRO TOOLS" DOESNT MEAN NOTHING WITHOUT TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE IN SOUND ENGINEERING. DO YOUR MUSIC AT YOUR HOME DOESNT MEAN "HAVE A STUDIO"! OK?!?!?!

  • I totally agree!! I have a computer and pro tools some monitors and I don't call it a studio.. It's Music production right?? A studio will have acoustic treatment it'll have the proper listening position not in the corner of the room! this guy is a joke! And guys M-Audio hardware only works with M-Powered pro tools! Digidesign pro tools software will only work with Digidesign hardware! Also Make sure if ur running windows that it meets pro tools requirements! Check Digidesign website for specs!

  • This is POOOOOOOPPPP!!!!

  • Crap. Far too long-winded.

  • noobvillage is gay

  • doesn't help at all, only protools advertisement

  • I don't know if I'd say that. I mean, I wish they'd have their videos set up so you could actually watch everything at once, but he's not lying if you go this route.

I have a very DIY setup for my recording, but my friend is a producer in a legit setup and this is all true. It might suck to hear, but this is the way to go, if you have the money and understanding (I mean no offense by that, but it does take a knowledge of audio engineering).

This video doesn't help though, you're right

  • i dont understand any of this. im interested in starting a home recording studio but dont know where to start and i need. can someone please help?

  • just protools advert

  • Sam, :1. have an intrument. 2. for vocals or acustic guitar, you will need microphone.3. have a mixer. you will not need to plug/ unplugg to alternate recording.4. plug your mic and instrument to mixer channels.5. have an audio interface.6. connect mixer ( out ) to audio interface (line-in). 7.have a computer and a musical studio software properly installed into it. 8 . plug audio interface to the computer (USB) 9. have monitors and plug them into the audio interface.(line-out) . 10 Done.

  • thanks for that it helped heaps

  • have a look at a youtube vid called how to get sony acid pro 7 for free and then look at torrents "magix soundpool" for your loops.

  • @zenoist2 yeahhhh lets nick shit and then make "our own" music with some loops that someone else made (that we also nicked), that'll be well original!

  • whats that box thing called that works with pro tools

  • @armyqpzm it's an mbox

  • it's an audio/midi interface

  • will i have pro tools le and i dnt know wat i did wrong when i recorded it and burned it to a cd it sounded like my words were just comming out of the left side of the speaker

  • Im wearing a very warm and soft angora aweater.

  • I built my home studio entirely of scrap lumber and duct tape.

  • how do you connect a keyboard to your mix 16 channel behringer

  • Snakes cables. Just run it as any instrument. Your outs on your keyboard to your ins on the mixer.

  • can i record my dj mixes with this pro tolls?

    plz someone answer

  • @someonex011 yes you can, run usb to another port on your pc , open protools and link.

  • oh ok, ima buy it then....coll thanks.

  • Yeah. Just hook the output of you DJ mixer to the inputs of pro tools. Just make sure you plug it into the line inputs and not the preamps.

  • can the mbox2 run on windows 7?..

  • The last time I checked which was about 3 weeks ago...no.

If you are recording, I'd suggest you keep your recording comp separate from your word processing comp. It seems like Windows 7 upgrade would be more for personal pref/word processing and not recording optimization.

When u keep upgrading, you run the chance of software/hardware not working because of lack of upgrades or just bugs that Windows hasn't worked out. Usually wait a bit before buying.

  • Comment removed

  • How bout this:

first, the negative comments will not be tolerated by the Admins.

2nd, there are plenty of forums to answer any recording questions i.e. studiocentral , gearslutz, homerecording , etc etc

You will definitely find your answers there alot faster and in more detail than here.

  • i need help.. im just now getting Pro Tools 8.0.1 and i can hear my self when i talk in the mic through my headphones but when i try to record it doesn't record anything.... wat do i need to do to record

  • okay. so when using ProTools 8.0.1 take the plug in to the mic and stickit in your asshole..it should record after that

  • a bitch fuck you...u giant bleeding fishy vagina

  • Did you arm your track to record? Try that... If that's not it, I suggest learning how to run the program properly.

  • They usually have better videos than this, but I think this is like a headnote or something. On Youtube anime, it would be like OP or ep 1 pt 1/3 or something.

  • That Monitor is a Dinosaur

  • Expert village... we are challenging you to make better... longer videos.... just suggesting

  • They make short videos so that they can make more money by views. Its annoying I know.

  • @waguragaturuku definitely, your not living up to your name "expert village"!

  • all motherboards have integrated soundcards

all you need is a microphone and recording software

if you buy a microphone with a standard amp-in lead, you will need to buy a convertor to be able to plug it into the mic input in the computer. these are like $10 at a music store

i use audacity to record my band's demos.

    ;D

  • wont you need a preamp for the mic?

  • u dont NEED one but it would result in better sounds.

  • hey, I have a problem with audacity, everything I record, sounds half a step down.. and I have no idea what it could be.. do you know whats the problem?

  • yeah you need pro tools

  • Is it me or was there very little information in that video?

  • nope its not you. this is bullshat

  • expertvillage has a lot of videos and thats great, but their videos suck though..

  • i hate expertvillage videos

  • protools is great for recording vocals, the plugins to clean up your voice in the recordings are great, as editing wise nuendo and cubase are the best in my opinion. if your using a pirated software as they call torrents you wont get the best out of the program. its like a carsales man offering you a Lambo for free with no intierior and no engine and no rims you aint goin nowhere .

  • 1. a torrent is not always a piece of pirated software and vice versa. just so you know.

    2. a pirated piece of software, if cracked correctly, runs the same way as it would if it wasnt pirated.

  • Exactly. I download Linux distributions(100% free 100% legal) via torrents.

  • Pro tools IS the industry standard, but by no means is it the only choice. it's too expensive, and you HAVE to use their hardware. there are other great DAW's like ableton, cubase or logic. do your research before you decide, you'll be married to digidesign if you go with protools; i see it as an audio version of mac: shiny and pretty, but expensive and little compatibility with other platforms. as for audio quality, it's exactly the same. you won't get a "better sound" with one or the other.

  • You're right if your comparing pro tools LE to logic and cubase. You really can't compare HD to logic and cubase. Zero latency processing and delay compensation are lightyears ahead of the competition and the surround processing is much better.

  • @crashdog5866 i wouldn't say light years, but you're right. That said, i don't think Pro Tools HD is an option for most home studios: it's expensive, and not really worth it unless you plan on making money off it. Besides, what home studio needs more than 24 inputs?

  • wow dont u just love how they post 1 minute videos saying "here's what we're gonna do today..." and then the clip just ends.

  • Sooo pro tools is still better then sonar 8 and cubase . x ??

  • It depends on what you prefer. I know people who have mixed hits on cubase.

  • has it got phantom power?

  • yeah

  • Yep, 48V.

  • OsbieCamacho509 thinks pro tools is overrated cause ether he cant afford it, or hes never used it.plain and simple.

  • true, what I mean by it's overrated is that u dont have 2 get pro tools 2 be in the industry, but u can get other shit..... everybodys all like, oh i want pro tools cuz thats what the pros get, i use magix and it does the job good....

  • i guess from taht angle yeah, no one should thingk"oh i got protools im gonna get pro sounding shit now, no...i can get pro sounding shit from cool edit if i have everything set up perfectly as with protools i might add, if its not set up right your not gonna get pro out of it

  • pro tools need me

  • it's not the software that makes the difference.. it's the artist :)

  • haha yeah engineers can only do so much.

  • that's like the cheapest mbox...

  • na the fast track usb m-box is

  • by the MAudio sucks.. dont ever go for it..

  • Please try putting a lav mic on the talker for your videos. It sounds terrible. You're sound guys.

  • Pro Tools isn't pverrated becuase every user want to record with it.

If you run Sonar or something else in your studio you will lose a lot of customers only by using the wrong software

  • I think pro tools is overrated.

  • and what are you using OsbieCamacho509? Garage Band? Cool Edit? Windows Sound Recorder?! lawl get real man. This is the industry standard and if you can't accept that then you're fucked in this business.

  • actually I use Magix Music Maker, and it does the job gr8, what about u? Audacity.....

  • my mic use 2 work but now it dosnt any more! anyone know why? please. I have m-box!i cant hear anything in my head phones or anything! not making any kind of sound waves just straight line

  • shid i make cold ass beats wit FL studios and im only 15 me n my friends finna put out a mixtape but we need a free download software anyone know any

  • download acid pro 7 (demo )

    here is the serial number

    1KB-2DCD-LWZP-2LYX

    and the activation/authentication code:

    DKNQ63NKX-ZGNVLVXQ1-T2VS99CN0-8296E0HKD-Q35WFXJB8-Q2R03DE63

    ENJOY MAN!!

  • what to do for library which comes with the original pack? have u got any solution ? coz I need all the loops to use in ACID ( the best software in the world)

  • just get the trial and one u put the serial number it come to be full acid pro 7

and u will need to make your ouw librabry..

  • i rap and want to start recording at home i dont need equipment to produce beats just to record vocals .. wut all do i need to purchase to get good quality sound i kno i need a mic and software but what else.. i dont know how to mix so ill need sumthin easy to learn and not so expensive prolly under $200 im looking to spend around $500 total but i could spend higher if absolutely needed

  • Sacryphizerecords recording and engineering. i'm Proper Tonez. look the biggest mistake peole make when setting up a studio for recoding vocals is they spend alot of money on the MIC. your going to be spending (for a decent enough quality to sell or mixtape your stuff) over 2g's. no matter what i been doing this for over 9 years now for fun and learning and started from scratch . no college, nothin!

  • just a natural with art. i started with a cheap computer, a headset, using the mic on that to record into the program when it was barely recognized, MAGIX music maker. then started with fruityloops for beats. then reason. then protools.

  • u can get pro tools and do proffesional quality vox, but you could also use cubase, wich is cheaper, but still decent

  • not better than Logic Pro!

  • Please....have you even used Protools?

  • pro tools is not better than logic

are you out of your fucking mainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Thanks for this - It has given me an excellent starting point on the ultimate ride of home recording - Now at least I have a clue at what I am looking for as a start - The local muso shop was trying to rip me off big time with a massive setup when all I want is something similar to what was shown - couple of inputs - not 16?

  • i think the best program is adobe audition

  • I used to use adobe audition 1.5 and loved it. Then I downloaded the trial of the new version 3.0 and loved that too. I have since though bought pro tools and having used both I dont think I will ever go back from pro tools. Just my opinion though. Although I love how easy to use audition is, when I strated using it I had zero knowledge and still managed to use it.

  • cant you use another interface such as the presonus firebox

  • hey, can ne1 send me a message regarding if, on a sound design standpoint, it's okay to just have the program protools? I'm on a budget...

  • first, the M-Box it's designed to run PRO TOOLS LE. Many people that want pro tools at a budget price might get a M-Audio interface and Pro Tools M-Powered. for a video called Pro Tools software, its not explanatory at all.

    Expert village my ass

  • Why do protools users get so upset! Protools is the shit I KNOW! But, that takes nothing away from all of the other quality programs out there. it's a lot of people thought fruity loops was a joke but, I know way more FL users making Heat than hardware producers. EVERY BODY PLEASE JUST DO YOU... Obviously we all love doing music, how about we do it our way. Just a thought... Michael Jackson's THRILLER , one of the best engineered albums ever. NO PROTOOLS!

  • Cubase Sx3 is good and nuendo and logic too! Some of the best recordings in the world was recorded way before Pro-tools was even heard of! it's not what you use, it's how you use it!

  • Of course they were, it's called tape ;).

    Protools came before cubase etc.

  • is the mbox like a sound card, wen i plug in the mbox via USB or firewire, it will be the sound card??, or would i need another sound card like a creative soundblaster or something

  • What a load of rubbish. Pro Tools isn't the 'industry standard' Pro Tools HD is. There is a big difference between LE and HD. A good 10 to 20 thousand dollars worth of difference depending on the amount of IO's you need.

Nor sure how I found this video but all expert village video's are absolute BS.

    Rant over.

  • (Not to knock on LE because it's fine for home use but you won't see it in a proper studio. Nor will you achieve professional results with low-end gear. Fact. This in turn doesn't mean you can't have fun with your little toys.)

  • Thats nice if you are a rich boy. but go back in time and you will see how spoiled we are now.

Its now how tricked out your tools are, its how you use it!

In some countries they build houses out of mud, cow crap and water, Leaves and rocks and they survive just fine, In U.S.A. We have air conditioning and can buy food to eat, and we still bitch about things we can not control!

  • I think you are missing the point. It has nothing to do with being rich/wealthy. There is too much bs information regarding this industry. People think that if you buy an mbox you won't need a professional studio and engineer to achieve professional results. This guy states PT as the industry standard but that only applies to HD. BIG difference. What you need is of course relative to what you are doing. Hobby? free download. Business? You'll need to tools/facilities/knowledge/experience.

  • It is how tricked out your tools are. It's also how you use it. I own a business (a professional recording studio) and people pay me good money to do what they cannot. Either because of lack of knowledge/facilities/gear/experience/expertise or because they feel they work best in a pro environment. Going to a proper studio will take all the technical stuff out of your hands so you can concentrate on the music. Let the engineer worry about conversion, pre's and mics.

  • I'll conclude with the following:

Let's say you claim to be able to build a house with just a hammer and a handsaw. Not just for you but for others to live in. Ok, so you try to build a house but you are limited to the knowledge and experience to building birdhouses. You could buy all the gear you could afford but it won't make you a better builder. However, give the professional builder a hammer and he'll build a house much more proficiently because of his experience and knowledge.

  • I think you are missing the point!

  • If you are going to make a 'statement', at least make an attempt to back it up (like I did).

  • hi i'm 16 havent got a lot of money so i need a cheap and easy way of recording at home ive got my mic, speakers, sound card and i use a program called recordpad sound recorder. i rap over instrumental beats that people send me but i just need it to be recorded in to a track that you can actualy hear clearly. if any 1 could help me out that would be great ??

  • audacity, mixcraft

    beeyatch

    look it up

  • what if you hav an maudio usb mic do u still need an interface

  • if its usb it just connects to the computer...an audio interface connects 1/4 jacks(guiatars etc) xlr(standard studio mic hookups) and studio monitors(studio speakers) to your computer where u should have a music production program such as pro tools, reason, fruity loops, cakewalk, or watever the hell ya use

  • I use FL Studio 8 and a PreSonus AudioBox USB.

  • i bought protools le (version 7.4). i have been having trouble with it as i am teaching myself to use it. if anyone is well versed with this software will you please leave me a message on my channel. i have some questions about how to use some of the plugins and programs that came with the software.

  • what the hell is with the captions. in this video it keeps saying "in box" when he is saying "M-Box". The last video I watched the caption kept on saying "VIDI" instead of "MIDI" LOL

  • 4. Viperpulse what version of the software are you using? Apart from m-powered no other PT software will run with at the very least an mbox micro usb dongle.

  • M-powered canlnot be support an Mbox only the M-audio interfaces support M-Powered.

  • 1. PT is still the industry standard software for studios and post production facilities around the world.

    2. To use the software you need either a "Digidesign" Interface for the HD or LE versions, or a number of m-audio interfaces will work wit the m-powered version. As "Avid" also own m-audio this is heardly supprising.

    3. PT has for many years been a hard disk recording software with excellent arrangment and mixing features. It works and keeps working which is why it is the standard.

  • You don't need M-Audio M-Box or DigiDesign, your comp will still run ProTools. You need at least an audio interface however not necessarily those brand names. I have a $150 PreSonus AudioBox works fine. I also use FruityLoops Studio 8

  • umm no, pro tools won't accept any input unless its from specified devices... dont fool people into wasting money getting pro tools and then not being able to use it, if not everyone with a home studio(who wanted it) would have pro tools, its easy enough to download the program from the internet... but it wont work without the required hardware... fail... try again

  • Naw dude, you DON'T NEED an M-AUDIO BOX FOR SURE, unless you use the M-Powered version of PT which then, yes, you will need an M-Box. It will work with other versions, sure, but you don't necessarily HAVE TO HAVE IT for those copies.

Who's the more foolish: The fool, or the fool who follows him?

  • No youre wrong abt that. If you have an Mbox you cant use M-powered u can use le tho. If you have an M-audio interface that is compatible with M-powerd you can use it, but not on le

  • only digidesign (the makers of pro tools) products work on pro tools!!

  • m-audio products work with protools and the interfaces are cheaper than the mbox's

they make pro tools m-powered for the m-audio devices

  • aren't Cubase and Ableton Live the industry Standard?

  • nope. Many switched from cubase 3-4 years ago, and started using Protools. However, alot is turning to logic now adays, dont get it. i freaking LOVE the new Protools. whoyah! - But for electronic music/music programming, i still use logic (:

Only problem with protools, is that it has got some serious bugs. Its going down on me (you know what i mean) all the time.! Logic is pretty glitch free, but PT ROCKS! Ableton is no match. no wonder no great artist use it. ;D - Greetings from denmark (:

  • Sonar is better
