From what I understand, the Ukrainian, Polish, Estonian and Lithuanian guards were men who enthusiastically signed up for the job as soon as the Germans entered their areas, THE VERY NEXT DAY! Many of them were members of local anti soviet underground groups before the Germans arrived. May of these groups were also antisemitic

The soviets used groups of armed young ideologues from the cities to seize every crumb of food, every grain of wheat from the farms. Its a political move, this isn't the first time this guy was put on trial for these crimes back in 1986 he was put on trial in Israel the accusations were dismissed and he was sent back to the US and his US citizenship was restored.

Again in 2001 he was put on trial and to be deported but no country would accept him. Fast forward 8 years the case is reopened again!
