Over a year later (after my comment down below), I've performed this movement multiple times, became very tired of the concerto, but have rediscovered it and am falling in love with it all over again! It makes me so happy. :D This was the first recording I ever heard, and remains my favorite tied with Radu Lupu and Andre Previn/London Symphony Orchestra. Thank you so much!
jeez. all the parts with arpeggios (fast part of expo, fast part of development, fast part of recap) are a monster. ughh how will i get them up to speed in time?? argerich is truly amazing

I AWARD THIS 1 CLARA...This pianist at 4:30 forward saves this from being a wreck.I Think the orchestral concept is frightful monodimensional and inexpressive.
archcorenth-Not at all so. Listen to any Szell,Walter,Toscanini conducted concertos, and you will hear a heavenly union of soloist and orchestra. Were that not so,then I too could have been a great conductor! Ha,ha. I wish, but am without talent at all.

rostropovitch conducting ! we're not used to see him far from his cello !
anyway argerich + rostropovitch is the best cellist pianist duet ... their chopin cello sonata was just gorgeous

Yes we are. He conducted a lot, and played the piano a great deal.

Next to Richter and Lipatti-she is IMHO-the very best. Brava! TY.
P.S.-Hers is still the very best Rach3. Even better than the fabulous Horowitz version.

I like the orchestra, I think it's sweeping. But regardless, a piano concerto is about the piano....
