  • This song is the ultimate slow jam

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!

  • Rest In Peace, Mr Walter Gaines and thank you for this great song.

  • RIP Mr. Walter Gaines of the Originals.....

  • "Scariest" thing about The Originals' talent was, this was not even their best performance....

that honor goes to "The Bells".

The live performance was on Y/T a while back...breathtaking 4 part harmony also written

by underrated writer & producer Marvin Gaye.

  • Straight up...simply one of the greatest love songs ever recorded....

  • @e37a It just doesn't get any better than this. It can't. In a word, this is "perfection."

  • thanks for posting song of 70's

  • Closest thing you'll ever hear comparable to Ruffin/Kendricks or Marvin Jr/Johnny Carter,

Walter Gaines & C.P.Spencer tradin' leads........................

sure Marvin realized the chemistry from the outset and wrote these Originals songs

    accordingly..............Beautiful records.

A classic and memorable journey nto the past.

  • This take me back to the late 1960s when I was two-years old.

  • @Tbear5027 lmao what you said he is in his own world of daddy mack

  • Still takes me back to my childhood and the happiest time of my life. The music was so great and uplifting. The songs were made by professionals who prided themselves in their craft. My, my, my, just listen to this classic and how it combines Marvin Gaye's Doo Wop roots with the Motown sound of the 60s. Classic.....

  • style? working Nehru collars, black on white, doublebreasted with silk ascot. Too sharp. pure class, artistry, soul and elegance.

  • Hey Mike , I know you Boys on the Westside know this one

  • This is definitely an amazing song, but when the timer reads 2:34 and they sing, "So that I could live...my whole life...with...you," I see why I fell in love with my girlfriend. I can't think of too many songs from my generation with this emotion, with this symmetry amongst members of the group and able to express such energy. It seems I have to yet again go on a journey and search for more oldies to add to my itunes collection.

  • O'Lawdy have mercy; sweet memories; they comeback visit Love & Happiness; Guys treated Ladies so tenderly. Thank you for reposting this.

  • this is so good. I used to listen to it all the time when it came out.

this is the 1st time I've watched it. they all sing! wow. love it

  • This record features not only production by Marvin Gaye, but the voices of

two of the finest singers Detroit ever produced, Freddie Gorman and the

fabulously talented Crathman C.P. Spencer ,whose vocals appear on

many Motown million sellers by Jr Walker(What does it Take to win your Love)

and David Ruffins "My Whole World Ended (the moment you left me).

  • OMG as in oh my goooossshhh.. this is one of my favorites... where'd you find this rare video... i cant remember how old i was when i first loved this song, but thanks so much for sharing...

  • Outside of Marvin's "I Want You" album this is it; and he wrote the song. There are other great slow drag, perfect, panty dropper, true love songs, I just can't think of one better right now.

  • CLASSIC - SOUL! NO DOUBT

  • la amooooooooooooooooooooo es una execelente canción! ;D

  • This song is in my fav 5. 1. Spinning Around Main Ingredient, 2. Sailing - Christopher Cross 3. Love Ballad - LTD 4. Baby, I'm For Real - Originals, 5. How Much I Feel - Ambrosia. I could listen to song until the record turn white from the needle. Young folks don't understand what I'm talking bout. Have you ever played a song until the record ashed over. That's some good music. Thanks for posting. 5 stars. I never seen the group so that made it even more special.

  • Thank you!!!!!

  • Heavennnnnnnnn

  • Word's cant explain man

    beautiful vocals

  • Great song written and produced by the great Marvin Gaye, along with The Bells. He helped this group get their first hit. Until then though they sand backup on countless Motown hits! Great song, great group, great, great producer Mr Marvin Gaye~!

  • @plumbweis I didn't know he had anything to do with this song. But, after listening with him in mind, it's obvious. Thanks for the info.

  • This was the ultimate grind song in the seventies. Blue lights in the basement... You heard the melody and you went to grab the hand of the biggest butt girl at the party. Her head pressed against yours along with everything else...Hopefully you could still a kiss at the end of the song...

  • @DSCOBLUE Glad to see somebody else remembers the "blue lights in the basement" era. The music from then, like this song, is simply priceless.

  • @DSCOBLUE I know that's right! LOL! Ahhh, for brothers to return to this kind of flow....

  • Thank God for this kind of music. Does anybody have other links/suggestions to songs of theirs performed live??

  • @DSCOBLUE LOL i hear you man , i was gonna say the same thing., black light glowing , song comes up, if you missed that one , you reach for whoever was left.......LOL Women out there no disrespect but thats the way it went down. good days though.. love and peace!

  • @DSCOBLUE I KNOW THATS RIGHT! LMAO!

  • @DSCOBLUE So true. "Blue lights in the basement" is the only way to describe this music. A great bygone era of much more intense yet simpler relationships. And we had the music that went with it. Classic stuff like this. Man, those were the days.......;-)

  • I love this group and this song. Nothing like holding the one you love and feel her heart beating against your chest as this plays.knowing this is where you want to be and who you want to be with. Yes! Baby I am and this is for real.A wonderful song. There is a B side to this called The only time you love me. Can someone post it.

  • Every time, every time. Anybody want to do the Baltimore slow drag? This is timeless...my lady, another Baltimore bopper, heard this for the first time in decades. Pow!

  • I would love to find the guitar chords for this beautiful song. If anyone knows, please e-mail me. Thanks

  • I've never seen any performance footage of The Originals until now. Any guesses as to what tv show this may have been???

This was the number R&B song the week I was born. Thanks for the post.

  • Oh my, this song makes my heart ache.

  • Mine too

  • A Motown classic!

  • man....they may not have danced there asses off and give a more entertaining act.....they sure as hell had the voices, and C.P Spencer is one of the greatest tenors Ive heard.....damn wish they made more songs and became bigger, they deserved it

  • Much as I LOVE these guys & this record I now understand what Motown stablemate Paul Williams meant when he emphasized that fella's could'nt just be standing around snapping their fingers while performing. Sex-appeal sells, (always has!!). This, and the fact these fella's never got promotional push from Motown is the primary reason The Originals never made it to the top,'cause talentwise, it was obviously no problem. Unbelievably great performance!!!!
  • Good God almighty. This has to be one of the most precious records ever lost & reposted!!!! I've never seen it until now and always wondered how the Originals looked when they performed. C.P. blows everyone away as usual, and the co-lead on Freddie Gorman is just picture-perfect. No wonder Marvin Gaye took the time to produce these fella's, only wish they would have gone elsewhere and achieved what CP's old offshoot group did (Spinners) at Atlantic. Great, legendary performance.
  • When I got married, I had this song on my wedding cd. I love it!!!

  • The member in the glasses is C.P Spencer, he is actually a founding member of The El Domingo's and they became The Spinners RIP CP and Freddie Gorman

  • thank you.

  • What a nice sound thanks

  • I also saw this video several years ago, and I had been looking for it on Youtube since then. They had outstanding voices but rarely got good material at Motown. They sang a lot of background on Marvin Gaye's Let's Get it on album. Indeed, Marvin wrote this song. At least he appreciated their untapped talent. Thanks for posting.

  • I've never seen a live performance of these cats before. Until I saw this I thought it was just 2 guys sharing the lead and the other 2 in the background. I like it when groups share lead vocals though. Thanks for posting this.

  • Same here , I never knew they all shred on this song!!

  • I remember listening to this song on the radio when I was younger they played it all the time "quite storm".. This is music!

  • That was amazing footage. That song is sublime. Thanks for posting that classic.

  • Thanks Disco. I remember the vid. This song deserves faces.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Do they even make brothers like this anymore???

  • What a classic song. I've never seen them perform before. Pity it wasn't a live vocal but thanks for posting anyway.
