  • lol whitewashed hardcore...and also everything in america ...

  • @ SimKoning. Did you know that all the actual martial arts stunts for Aang's character in the movie was actually done by an Asian (I presume Chinese) woman?! LOL

  • @LordInit Flexibility! She had more of that perhaps!

  • the reason why this movie is raciest is becuase everyone makes it raciest so what if they are white , black, chinese , etc that were suppose to play that role who cares they all are still people but the world still cant figure that out yet becuase everyone is just plan stupid i mean omg that guy is suppose to be chinese but a white guy played as him who cares the why i look at it is that just some people complaining about that they didnt get the part in the movie and and making it sound raciest

  • It's not exactly easy for an Asian actor to get a leading role in movies (less than 1% compared to the 80% for white actors) even when the whole godamned movie is about THEIR culture, or the character is DESCRIBED IN THE SCRIPT as Asian. It's called yellowfacing, and it's the reason why Bruce Lee didn't get to star in a tv show HE CREATED, it's the reason a movie about a real Chinese American MIT student (21) was cast with a white actor, it's the reason Goku, Japan's superman was cast as white

  • @SimKoning and i also thank you for reading my comment and reading to what my concerns about the view of the movie

  • Oh and when they do get a role, they are either doing kung fu, or are the sidekick of a white or black guy.

  • @SimKoning i get wat you are saying but i went and watched the movie and there was actually more races of people there other than white but you are right the main characters were supposed to be chinese but it is really hard to come by a balled-headed kid btwn the ages of 10-13 who knows kong fu and in my view there is really nothing raciest about it i mean seriously people are people no matter what the race is

  • @Caseyloewer the movie is racist, because the producers purposely chose whites over asians despite the fact that ALL the characters were asian! I bet you would complain if the movie 'Lord of the Rings' had asians or even blacks as the stars! And don't lie!

  • Ah there is nothing more weirder than a Caucasian portraying a monk, an Asian Buddhist monk. It like watching a Asian portraying an old American colonial fighting the red coats or a mythical England king like King Arthur. The only positive spin I can put to it is that some Caucasian producer in Hollywood loved Asian Culture so much they are fine being wannabe Asian. I am deeply flattered. (Laughing at them mockingly)

  • GREAT JOB WITH THIS VIDEO DUDE! You NAILED the POINTS RIGHT ON THEIR HEADS.

  • thanks for posting the video. Glad to see somebody who see it like it is. They say it's not racist, but the history is pretty much there in hollywood. They list every excuse in the book, but never racism.

  • lmfao. 6:56 that kid just looks like he is stoned. xD

  • Prince of Persia is irrlevant. Jake Gylenhaal is of Jewish descent, which makes him a similar demographic to ethnic Persians. Persians are not Arabs. They pretty much look white.

  • @Kiffraji sorry to say this but there are good middle Eastern actors already, Persians may pretty much look white but Jake Gylenhall does look like the Prince of Persia

  • @Kiffraji

Persians look white? I wouldn't say that.

  • Sokka & Katara's grandfather WAS southern water tribe. Their grand mother married a southern tribe man after leaving the northern tribe. The northern water tribe are just as much Inuit anyway. Any doubters would only need to view the episode when the fire nation attacks the northern tribe. When they gather to prepare for battle, and volunteers step up, it's very clear by the skin tones and facial features.. these are NOT caucasians.

  • shutup

  • I guess my main argument is don't judge a book by its cover. My sister tried to convince me Twilight was awesome. So, I went to the movie, still thought it sucked. She said the book was way better, so I read the book. Still thought it sucked.

You can say that you think this movie is going to suck, but I won't really take you seriously unless you actually give the movie a try. If you feel this passionately, you can spare 2 hours to watch a bootleg version.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD maybe, for a $1 for that reason. But this problem has such a long history in Hollywood because they think it makes more money, so I'm not sure I want to even do that. I'm not going to watch a stolen version of it though, because I seem to be one of the few people that thinks that's wrong.

  • The problem with your LOTR reference is that NO one would be pissed. If Aang were black, we pro-casters wouldn't really care.

Um... they cast a black man as Heimdall... who's actually a central character in the Thor series. They cast The Honeymooners as black... It's been done many times before. And no one complains.

Also, Sifu Kisu, the show's choreographer is African-Canadian, not Asian. You don't NEED Asians to do proper martial arts.

  • @trivium Uh, you are dreaming if you think LOTRs fans wouldn't be really upset if the actors didn't even look the part. Hell, enough of them got upset just because they changed some plot elements! I also never said you have to be Asian to be good at martial arts! What videos did you watch? Asian actors can't get shit for roles, that's the reality of it. I'm sure if you were Asian and trying to get a lead acting role in an industry that casts 1% with Asian actors you would feel differently.

  • @SimKoning Man you have no idea when I was younger I wanted to be an actor but I looked at reality and there wasn't much work, can't follow that career and make a living. That is why many talented Asian Americans sometimes go overseas to get opportunities or many just try to get a real job. This goes back to the best actor argument, well you can't become the best if you aren't given opportunities.

  • @Sunwukong13 Thanks for posting that. I hope many of the kids defending this movie will read it and understand that people are being prevented from getting leading roles because of their race, even when the movie is about the culture produced by that race/ethnic group. BTW isn't Sun WuKong the monkey king?

  • @Sunwukong13

No one said being a minority is easy. This is how life is. Not going to change. You can make your own independent films with Asian leads if you like and build an audience then maybe Hollywood exec would come to you but since the majority of movie goers are white, films will be oriented to appeal to that audience.

You could be the Tyler Perry for Asians. Who knows if you build a large enough supportive audience.

  • @lukewarmstormed it can change because we today have a black president, that means something, if white like watching white people all of the time then that is pretty racist? is it not? One of this main country's belief is founded on diversity and equal opportunity if an Asian cannot land a role as an Asian and be him or herself then that goes against our first amendment, also it proves who the real racists really are in our society.

  • @Sunwukong13

"One of this main country's belief is founded on diversity and equal opportunity"

Not really. Life, liberty and the pursuit of property was the ideal.

"if an Asian cannot land a role as an Asian and be him or herself then that goes against our first amendment,"

    How?

  • @lukewarmstormed how exactly? well pursuit of property, Asian roles should be played by Asian roles

  • @Sunwukong13

Who said these were Asian roles?

  • @lukewarmstormed \they should also have the liberty of playing that role rather than have a white guy play its that simple because if a white got to play a black character that is still wrong just the same. I don't know why you are justifying that whites can play anything they want? Its like you like the illusion, that a white person is always the best? I mean no one's the best.

  • @Sunwukong13

I could care less who plays a particular role. I'm talking finance. You cast people who bring in dollars for blockblusters.

  • @lukewarmstormed so by your logic that has no direct proof, because Will Smith right now is the highest payed actor who is black, So you can't say white people are the ones that sell the most.

  • @Sunwukong13

Uh mathematically yes they do. If you took black leads ad compare them to whites then yes white bring in more audience members. That is why they are cast. Hollywood exec aren't stupid.

  • @lukewarmstormed You are ignoring the facts, In Hollywood things are unexpected, mathematically your comparisons come up short sometimes. No Hollywood exec aren't stupid but they still lose money, that is a fact either they think a white audience prefers white heroes or not. As much business as you make Hollywood is its also a combination of art as well, and art can go either ways. You are missing the point that even though you may be right by numbers, its still systematic racism, which is bad.

  • @lukewarmstormed you can't say that you can care less when the one playing the role is always white that means you do care, also if he or she is white it means she'll sell more, so technically you have to care, this is where the racism or discrimination beings. Simple as that

  • @Sunwukong13

Well yes. If hire a white actor means more profit then yes. What's wrong with that. That's how a business is run. You mean you would hire an Asian even if it made you lose money? Nonsense.

  • @lukewarmstormed its wrong if the original character is a minority, there is nothing wrong with hiring a white guy to play a white guy. White guy to play a black guy that just means your a racist simple and easy. Well truthfully even if its a white actor or any actor you still have the chance of losing money so basically when doing works based that have minority characters then should just cast correctly. Look I don't wanna talk no more, If you like white people in everything thats you.

  • @Sunwukong13

"White guy to play a black guy that just means your a racist"

Angelina Jolie played a black actress. Did a great job. Same goes with black people. If Will Smith wanted to play John Adams, I'm for it. Nothing wrong with it at all as long as they change him cosmetically.

  • @lukewarmstormed Wow I can't believe you accept that? well the fact that your not in the minority group being discriminated I understand why you'll say that. I use to believe that too, no lie but real black actors lose opportunities and when the minority says its racist, it could be racist in these cases that involve cinema, because the thing is you can't prove them wrong about that idea.

  • @Sunwukong13

"fact that your not in the minority group being discriminated I understand why you'll say that."

This is a stupid statement. I mean many groups are discriminated against. Height, weight, attractiveness. Tell me why do you only focus on race. Why not cast ugly heroes? That's not giving burn victims any hope is it?

You see discrimination is guaranteed. You only care when it comes to race for your own self interest.

  • @lukewarmstormed my own self interest? please don't give me that crap, all I am saying is race matters and a white person playing a black person or anyother minority is wrong, honestly if you like white people playing whatever they want, then you scope of understand people's and their feeling is very limited. Also I don't know why you are justifying this action to be I don't know accepted? In this case I wanted to be specific, instead you keep deviating into more pointless points.

  • @Sunwukong13

"a white person playing a black person or another minority is wrong,"

Unless they change the character cosmetically. In the movie X men. The character playing Nightcrawler was painted a pigment to maintain the character's complexion.

According to your logic only a blue person can play them.

You are obviously not reading what I write. If a black person wants to play a white person, if they change them cosmetically then it's authentic when it comes to the character.

  • @lukewarmstormed this funny you are trying so hard to be politically correct lol seriously Night crawler OMG talk about pointlessness, I don't even wanna comment on this besides they should've called a Na'vee to audition lol it was a joke. Look you know what I meant so you can stop the BS its humorous but also immature.

  • @lukewarmstormed You can't change a black person "cosmetically" to be white, are you nuts? Do you even now what the morphological differences are between people around the world? What, if a East Asian wants to play a white role he should cut off his epicanthic folds on his eyes? Besides, the point is that acting is a JOB, and Asian actors can't get JOBS in acting because they are given to white people or (even black people in Eddie Murphy's case) so they can play a STEREOTYPE.

  • @SimKoning

"You can't change a black person "cosmetically" to be white, are you nuts?"

Been done. Google Coming to America. How dare Eddie Murphy play a jew right?

"What, if a East Asian wants to play a white role he should cut off his epicanthic folds on his eyes?"

THIS HAS BEEN DONE! It's called make up. Watch a behind the scenes video once in a while.

If asians can't get jobs acting then they need to start their own thing. Black did that. So did jews etc...

  • @lukewarmstormed again that is a comedy, if you think Coming to America is racist towards white people, then you are totally off.

  • @Sunwukong13

Don't respond to me again please. You don't read what I post. It's obvious. I never said it was racist to whites. Eddie Murphy's character was not alluding to ANY superior or inferior dichotomy based on skin pigment.

So if you going to comment to me again, show me a quote that I said that character was racist to whites.

  • @lukewarmstormed why did you even mention that movie? Asians don't need to start their own thing!?, neglecting actors is the main problem, people don't need to start their own thing, when clearly there are studios that exist already, if people do start their own thing then this means someone is discriminating, and you know who that is? People are not racist they make racist decisions, which becomes institutional racism, you are neglecting the problem.

  • @lukewarmstormed How old are you? I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm just suprised at how little you know about the differences between "races". If you painted a black guy red, you would still be able to tell he is "black", meaning he is of Sub-Saharan African descent. What people think of as "race" is not just skin color, they are homogenizations of different morphologies of human beings that can be helpful in determining a person's ethnic ancestory visually.

  • @SimKoning

What does your statement have to do with anything. You obviously know no one in the industry. When they "racebend" all areas are addressed though budget can make or break the cosmetics.

That means noses, eyes, lips, temple, hair etc are altered if they are trying to make a character a specific person. Racially it is convenient and cost effective to find people who resemble a character skin pigmentation but sometimes it beneficial just to get a known actor.

  • @SimKoning

Also. especially in voice acting, it's multicultural when it comes to who they get. A black actor plays Kratos in the God of War games. So according to your logic that's not correct? How dare a negro play a Spartan. Grab your torch and pitch forks.

He's the character because the directors felt his voice fit the role and race was irrelevant.

  • @lukewarmstormed voice actors are voice actors, they can transcend reality because, in the its art form they can change, Seriously if a real sponge played spongebob, then maybe I be too disturbed or surprised but they day that happens is most likely to be in my dreams. Please quit trying to find dumb arguments that are irrevalent, this is an argument based on inequality of cinema opportunities in physical cinema.

  • @lukewarmstormed I heard from an psychologist that when people are proven wrong they tend to be more politically correct rather than accept their mistakes. I cannot change you mind since it already made up, and I don't want to, all I want to prove that you are wrong for accepting white to play any minority they want. This is a case of race, you can be the most beautifulest man/woman but if you are white you should not play a minority role.

  • @Sunwukong13

Then your a racist. If your saying someone can't have a role due to their race then THAT IS DISCRIMINATION BASED ON RACE.

To say a white person can't play a black person and vice versa is A. False (it's been done) B.racist C. stupid.

  • @lukewarmstormed maybe in your math book yeah but if you like whites as blacks or anyother minorities thats your priority, its funny, but if your into that then I guess your not a racist at all your just stupid for believing a white guy can past for anything else by getting their skin tanned or darkened.

  • @Sunwukong13

Stupid? I'm owning you own all your comments which make no sense. Al Pacino played Dr. Kevorkian. Even though is skin pigment is similar he still had to spend time in a make up artist chair in order to make him look passable a Kevorkian. Want to know why? Because everyone is unique. They even had to lighten his face up in order for him to look close to Kevorkian.

Again using your logic why didn't they get someone with a lighter complexion?

  • @lukewarmstormed is that the purpose of this argument to see who's better? No sorry I'm not your monkey I don't talk to people to prove superiority but to learn , as for Al Pacino becoming more whiter? That is a different argument about makeup rather than completely changing someone's ethnicity.

  • @lukewarmstormed your wrong about race of my own interest, all I want is authenticity, if a batman movie was made I expect and want the character to be white, because his character is. If a movie about MLK I want the character to be black. If a movie was made about Native Americans I want Native Americans not Mexicans or a white guy. If Hollywood can find a white British actor to play a Asian American character(21) or have a buget that can feed a small country, I have high expectations.

  • @Sunwukong13

"if a batman movie was made I expect and want the character to be white"

Ok. The they can cosmetically alter Will Smith. 8 hours in a make up chair if that would be cost efficient. In other words if Will Smith would bring an audience in that role that would compensate for the cost of production.

  • @lukewarmstormed except for the fact the Smith may not do that because earlier he turned down the role of Superman by saying "you mess up a white hero in this town you never work again"

  • @Sunwukong13

I respect his opinion and that could be true but it really comes down to if the movie is good and if the cosmetic team is good enough etc etc

  • @lukewarmstormed hows was that a stupid statement, seriously you don't know how Blacks react to characters that are black-faced? You don't understand discrimination when it happens to minorities, why because your in the majority. You don't understand anything about minorities and their hardships in America, fact is you don't even try to understand them, you can't even sympathize to being with, and fact is you may never will. Ignorance is bliss after all

  • @Sunwukong13

"hows was that a stupid statement, seriously you don't know how Blacks react to characters that are black-faced?"

Black facing or Jim Crow esc shows were deliberately racist. No different than the movie White Chicks. They were deliberately made to embellish mannerism and attributes of a particular race. Angelina Jolie played Mariane Pearl not to make fun of lightskinned people but to play a role. See the difference.

  • @lukewarmstormed Wow white chicks was discriminating to you? man that was a comedy to being with!? if you thought that was racist man I feel sorry for you.

  • @Sunwukong13

"Wow white chicks was discriminating to you?"

I never said that. You are obviously not reading my post. I never said White Chicks was discriminating. You can read what I post.

And I never said it was racist. I said it embellished attribute and mannerism of a particular race like Jim Crow shows did.

  • @lukewarmstormed you never said but you compared it to Jim Crow lol

  • @lukewarmstormed Yellowfacing is no different and white washing is also no different, sorry Mr warmstrom but only some people can suspend their beliefs when it comes to race.

  • Fat actors get roles that are described as fat in the script, attractive actors get roles that depict attractive characters. Yet when a movie comes out that is based on CLEARLY Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Inuit people, they opt for white people, while they stick Inuits, Koreans, Chinese people in the backround to be saved, while the "evil" nation is dark complected. Have you even done any research on the history of this shit in Hollywood, look up Kung Fu the tv show and Bruce Lee.

  • @lukewarmstormed Huh... yet the government will come down on a company if they hire nothing but white people... I wonder why that is... BTW I'm pretty sure it's life liberty and the pursuit of HAPPINESS.

  • @SimKoning

"BTW I'm pretty sure it's life liberty and the pursuit of HAPPINESS."

Actually the draft was pursuit of property as happiness if you've read the history on the founding of this country was too ambiguous so property was suppose to be in it but politics got the better of it.

  • @lukewarmstormed its funny because fair casting is something that we all should already strive for, instead its not the goverment who's racist its the people who's involve in production that are making the decisions, that are discriminatory, weather you deny it or not. As a society we are not in a post racial country when Asian or minority actors are discriminated due to their skin color, and simply ignoring it does not help better society. Truth be told white people has gotten less crazy

  • @lukewarmstormed for the record I don't want to be a tyler Perry I want equal opportunities and fair casting for jobs in the cinema

  • @Sunwukong13

Well that's not going to happen. Equality has nothing to do with quality and that is key in a Hollywood setting for the most part. Asians dominate special effects departments. Where's your critique on that.

  • @lukewarmstormed I don't think Asian dominate the special effects department, I think many American cinema productions dominates it. In all fairness no matter how good a white actor may be he can never play characters like Malcolm X or even Bruce Lee the actor can never play Superman. Its will be on many degrees very wrong, its like Joke by Dave Chappelle in a movie title Last black man on Earth starring Tom Hanks

  • @Sunwukong13 Or the true story of some Asian American MIT students (21) that went around getting rich playing Black jack. 21 should have been the first major Hollywood movie starring a Chinese American actor, playing a REAL Chinese American character, about real Chinese American culture (and some of it's negatives) but instead we get a bunch of white leads and a token Asian guy...

  • @SimKoning

Ok your point? By all means buy a camera create independent films and discriminate based on race if you desire.

  • @lukewarmstormed no one wants discrimination, they want quality and authenticity, for example if I want to eat authentic Chinese food I go to China. I don't need to buy a camera and make a film to prove a point that racism is bad, I can call someone out on what they did and make them responsible for their actions, isn't that what people try to teach their kids?

  • @Sunwukong13

Well discrimination is the whole idea of property and ownership so I don't know what your talking about their.

As for racism. Yes racism is bad if it hurts the bottom line of a picture. For example Malcolm X being played by a white guy would fail because the audience it appeals to would not like it (blacks).

Airbender on the other hand which has a white following would have no issue with the main characters being white because they are the targeted audience.

  • @lukewarmstormed So having Asians in lead roles based on Asians (sometimes real East Asians like 21) is NOT quality? Do you think white people are better actors by default? Jackie Chan is one of the best actors out there, do you think he will EVER get a role that doesn't involve Kung Fu?

  • @SimKoning

"So having Asians in lead roles based on Asians is NOT quality?"

Never said that. Are you actually reading my post?

"Do you think white people are better actors by default?"

Please...that's sophomoric thinking and once again I never said that. Please don't quote things I don't write.

"Jackie Chan is one of the best actors out there, do you think he will EVER get a role that doesn't involve Kung Fu?"

You think Megan Fox will be cast as something more than just a body?

  • @lukewarmstormed so being in the majority makes life so easy for you now does it? Fairness my left foot. We can change especially when the highest grossing actor in Hollywood is Will smith a black guy, that just automatically proves you aren't as correct as you think you are.

  • @lukewarmstormed for the record things can change if enough people make the noise, seriously how did you think this country came to be in the first place?

  • @Sunwukong13

A group of white guys decided it would be better to tax locally than distantly?

  • @lukewarmstormed yep and they hated current law so they rebelled or boycott simple as that

  • @lukewarmstormed Oh, so as a white man, I should be mostly interested in movies about white people right? Do you have any idea what racism actually is?

  • @SimKoning I love you dude

  • I think it's funny that you make the comment, "Though, I mean, having the villains all be Middle Eastern, Jewish, or of Indian-descent, I mean, especially coming from Shyamalan, that's a little surprising, but whatever." Doesn't that just kind of show you, "Okay, I'm either saying that Shyamalan is a self-hating Middle Easterner, or it's not a racist casting."

Also, as for the pictures of the Southern Water Tribe, I hope you remember that Sokka and Kitara are NOT from the Southern Water tribe.

  • @trivium666fan Sokka and Katara's GRANDMOTHER is from the Northern Tribe, THAT'S IT. Watch the show. So if anything they would be a quarter white! They certainly wouldn't be two of whitest people in hollywood. This also ignores the fact that the Northern tribe in the Cartoon looked Native American, complete with ice totem poles.

  • Shyamalan doesn't have to be self hating, he just has to listen to the people that pay him, you know, the movie Producers....

  • M. Night picked the roles based on their acting ability, not on their skin color. He originally wanted an Asian pairing for Katara and Sokka, but he thought Nicola and Jackson acted the part better.

Should he have actively picked Asian actors? Maybe. But the point is it wasn't Paramount finding white people to make more money, but about finding the best actors.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed He said he picked Noah Ringer because he thought he looked just like Aang (he doesn't, beyond the fact that he is bald) and all the casting calls were biased toward "Caucasians". For what he is saying to be true, shouldn't he have picked Brandon Soo Hoo or another martial arts trained Asian kid with acting experience? Even Roger Ebert thinks it's bullshit because he knows there are many talented Asian actors out there. For your point to hold water, they must not exist...

  • @SimKoning Noah has had martial arts training before being cast for the movie.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed I know, in Tae Kwon Do (the wrong martial art) there were asian kids with acting experience AND martial arts training that auditioned for the role and lost to a bald white texan kid with no acting experience...

  • @SimKoning When M. Night first announced that he was looking for parts, he mentioned that a lot of them would be no-names. Previous film experience wasn't on his checklist, only that they could act the part.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed And that's a way of saving money when your movie has more special effects than you can afford. Being a no name doesn't mean no acting experience. I am not the least bit suprised that we have only heard TWO lines from this kid in the trailers. When a special effects movie wants to save money on acting they always go with no names to cut the costs of making the movie.

  • @SimKoning Why would he cut costs if he's trying to find the best actors? Your argument doesn't make sense.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed Because no names cost less than big names, I thought that was common knowledge...

  • I can sum this argument in a simpler way, "stop complaining about the casting, he wanted the best actors, and the best actors are all white". Seems pretty silly doesn't it? Sorry, we had to caste a white guy as Jackie Chan in his biopic, because the white actor was better than all the Asian actors out there!

  • @HoraceGoodspeed Another reason this argument is complete bullshit is because he went through the trouble to cast other Indian actors just because of Patel, but he could't cast east asian actors for asian roles? WTF? He can base his casting to make sure their races match up with the other stars, but he can't try to make them match the whole premise of the movie? I'm sorry, he is full of shit.

  • @SimKoning Earth Nation is East Asian. We won't see much of that until book 2.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed In the cartoon they were ALL east Asian with the exception of the Water Tribes (which were all native american based). The whole idea was that it would be an Oriental answer to Lord of the Rings (so says the creators). I don't know if you noticed, but Aang has Shaolin monk robes on in the movie. What would you think if they did a movie about Samurai and got a bunch of white people to slap makeup and samurai armor on? It would look pretty stupid no?

  • @SimKoning M. Night is taking beyond East Asia and making it universal. He has Africans, Indians, East Asians, and whites, all not seen in the TV show. That's the big difference in the movie from the TV show. He wants every race possible represented, not just East Asia.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed Middle Easterns, not East Asians, sorry for the typo

  • @HoraceGoodspeed Well he kinda screwed that up by having all inuits water tribes with only two white people in them (the stars of course) and Zuko (Indian) with a Jewish uncle (I guess they think us white pople can't tell the difference). Again he is full of it, the casting doesn't make any sense. Besides, it looks stupid as hell having a bunch of Indians and White people running around with ancient Chinese weapons, writing in Chinese and doing Chinese martial arts to Chinese music

  • @SimKoning He talked about incorporating more culture than just Chinese. For example, he says they'll see more Indian and Middle Eastern influence in the Fire Nation.

  • @SimKoning Gran Gran is also white, and is from the Northern Water Tribe which is bigger and more diverse.

  • @HoraceGoodspeed And I hated The Last Samurai for that very reason, so I know what you're talking about.

  • Thank you for making this. I agree 100%!

  • why is it you call the movie racist when you exclude races yourself, you said that the earth kingdom was going to be east Asian when really their going to be Asian and African. So since you took black people out of this equation completely does that make you racist?

  • @BigBis1337 Watch the fucking series.

  • @MakBot I have watched the entire series, so whats your question.

  • @BigBis1337 Racism is when you act or believe one race is superior to others, look it up. When you caste a bunch of white people as heroes TO SAVE THE WORLD while you caste middle eastern and south Asian people as the enemy, when Zuko was the "whitest" (skin color wise, his face was clearly East Asian if not Japanese) character in the show, and they don't even fit the parts, it's a little racist. Not to mention they fact that characters are white in the movie when it doesn't even make sense...

  • The worst part is inserting a white girl and man in an inuit tribe (as heros) and expecting us to just "suspend disbalief" while giving the finger to all the fans of the show. It's also insulting and racist when you make a movie about Oriental clothing, music, martial arts, writing, religion and are not nice enough to make the hero of the movie East Asian. It's racist when Asian people can't get leading roles even when the WHOLE MOVIE IS ABOUT THEM!

  • @SimKoning there you go again guessing the characters race, zuko is not asian not white he is neutral like every other characer, and once you realize it's a lot easier to understand. when i watched dbz it was obviously and asian culture i saw goku kick some serious ass and i didn't think hey look at that asian kick ass, i said look at that GUY kicking ass, i didn't see his race i saw what he did. i have more to tell but not enough room PM me if you want to continue the conversation.

  • @BigBis I'm not "guessing" at all. In the pilot episode they have 100% JAPANESE SAMURAI armor on, not to mention they got two famous JAPANESE voice actors (Mako and George Takai) to do voice acting for the fire nation while they got Chinese voice actors to play one or two of the monks at the air temple. Not to mention the people of Ba Sing Se have Qing dynasty CHINESE hair styles, the king looks like the last emperor, AND they even made a joke about the dagger being made in the earth kingdom

  • @BigBis1337 Then you know nothing about Japanese animation AND you are oblivious to the fact that Goku was a hero to Asian american kids growing up because all the American superheros were WHITE. Race is not a real biological issue, but it IS very much a social one. A childs self esteem is often affected by how they look and how they think others view them. Now that is all shot to hell just like DBZ by putting the people that the show is based on in the backround while white people save the day

  • I should also point out that i would be equally pissed if they caste all the characters in The Lord of Rings as Asian for the same reasons. Tolkien wrote the Lord of The Rings to try and recreate the Germanic mythology and folklore that was lost in Anglo Britain, the characters were MEANT to look like the Germanic peoples of Northern Europe, the story was not meant to have a "diverse" caste of people, just because Hollywood thinks an all white caste would prevent minorities from enjoying it.

  • Oh and of course, the most obvious way you can tell, other than the clothing, art, language, food, martial arts, writing, hairstyles, hand gestures, religion, philosophy, the fact that Iroh has a Japanese accent and many of the Earth kingdom people actually have faked and real Chinese accents (same with the air nomads) might be because Zuko is drawn with EPICANTHIC FOLDS ON HIS EYES!

  • @SimKoning well without zuko actually saying that he's Asian your assuming no mattetr the amount evidence that implies he is, or if the creator specifically said that zuko was based off of an Ancient Asian citizen then i woulld think otherwise.

  • @BigBis1337 He is a CARTOON from a FANTASY LAND. This Cartoon has epicanthic folds on his eyes, his unlce has a Japanese accent, he has JAPANESE armor on, he uses Chinese weapons... how many times do I have to say it? Of all the people on the planet, an INDIAN is bottom of the list of people that look like said cartoon! They should have got someone with epicanthic folds on his eyes and someone from the part of Asia the Fire Nation is based on, at the very least out of respect!

  • Are you telling me when they get to Ba Sing Se it would make sense if they got a bunch of white actors to play people in traditional Chinese clothing, using Chinese writing, with Chinese accents and a Qing Dynasty Queue (pony tail)? Would it make sense when the palace is THE EXACT SAME PALACE IN THE REAL WORLD minus the pic of Mao Ze Dong? Hollywood has a long history of doing this shit to Asian actors, research the history of "Yellowface".

  • @SimKoning for one ur going in circles you say he's chinese than japenese and circle and circle. but forget this, focus on this question if hollywood would make a movie of your life would you have an actor that looks very similar almost identical to you and be the worst actor ever. or have an actor that looks nothing like you but captures your personality feelings and emotions to a T. i know what i would pick how about you.

  • You don't even know what circular reasoning is, how old are you? Assuming that there are no talented Asian actors, and therefore you conclude casting makes sense is an example of begging the question AKA circular reasoning. You are also trying to change the subject by making a straw man argument by claiming I'm saying something that I am not. You need to grow up and understand that the producers of this movie only want MONEY, they don't give a shit about the culture this show is based on...

  • I know you really like the show, and so do I, but the movie is not the show and it is NOT going to be as good trust me. If the movie sucks (it will) it's not like the show will just explode into dust or something. I saw this coming as soon as M Night got his hands on it. They should have got a great action director that has ACTUALLY DIRECTED these kinds of movies like Tsui Hark, guess why they DIDN'T?

  • On a final note, there are always *reboots* these days. Maybe this movie will bomb for all these reasons and Viacom will pull their heads out of their collective asses and make a good movie years from now.

  • @SimKoning i never said that their was no talented asian actors i was just saying maybe noah was the best actor out of the bunch. And about growing up, i think it's you who need to grow up, you swore at a 15 year old on youtube yeah your the immature one. and about circular reasoning i know what it is i used in the wrong context and for that i'm sorry. But you never answered my question and I AM NOT DISSING ASIANS.

  • @BigBis1337 And how am I supposed to know how old you are? You know how old I am, does your parents know you are getting online and picking arguments with 29 year old men? If you want to go watch this movie, go do it I'm not stopping you. As far as Noah Ringer, he has ZERO acting experience and has no experience with the martial arts depicted in this film. Brandon Soo Hoo, looks like him, has acting experience and has the same martial arts background as ringer.

  • The casting calls are public record, and they clearly asked for caucasians. The only reason Zuko isn't white is because of this very controversy. Go look it up, and stop trying to prove something to someone much older than you when you haven't even researched this issue. I'm sorry but these people making this movie only care about this $, and they think white people make more money, end of story. Now go take martial arts classes or something...

  • @SimKoning well my parents do know that i have civilized conversations with people online while discussing opposing view points which is something i would of loved to do here but you ruined it with your extremely rude and juvenile comments, i am ending the conversation or "argument" right now with one tibit of info, i'm black and i couldn't care less about race, once everyone learns that were all people and not color the easier we'll live throughout our hopefully happy lives.

  • @BigBis1337 Oh you mean the word "shit".... oh no I'm so sorry for being a brutish caveman. I knew you were black, it's kinda obvious with your pic. But since you brought it up, do you think it was ok to have white people paint their faces to play black characters? They actually did that you know, to keep black actors from having leading roles . Guess what, they are still doing that with Asian roles. Why is ok to do this to Asian people yet it is wrong to do it for blacks?

  • Or do you think it is ok for a white guy to put black makeup on and play a black character? You know, as long as you assume he is a better actor than ALL the black actors that could have got the role...

  • @SimKoning you know i don't care if they paint their faces black if thats what the director chooses thats what he chooses, again i see people not color. So i'm not the hypocrite that you think i am and also trying to make me out to be. And are you really going to be a sarcastic punk, i never said that you saying "shit" made you a "brutish caveman" but i said it was very inappropriate for a conversation like this.

  • @BigBis1337 "with your extremely rude and juvenile comments" ummmm. Have you SEEN some of these movies I'm referring too?! You think it's ok that black that black actors were prevented from getting decent roles so that white actors could get the highest paying roles? You have a lot of growing up to do kid. Race is not a real biological factor yes, but descriminating against people because of how they look is WRONG.

  • These people wanted WHITE people for ALL the leading roles from the start. This is PULBIC RECORD, this is not up for debate. They never WANTED non-white actors to play these parts. Why? Because VIACOM thinks they will make more money with WHITE actors NOT ASIANS. Do you know why? They think WHITE MALE LEADS make more money. That is why 77% Paramounts leading roles have gone to WHITE MEN and less than 1% have gone to Asian men or women.

  • You don't care about these issues, because you want to like this movie SOOOOO bad that you will blind yourself to how wrong what they are doing is. Go read letters by Asian americans that have given up on acting because they can't get any kind of role that doesn't require them to NOT SPEAK ENGLISH or act or some stupid stereotype or do kung fu with a white or black side kick. What's worse is this is EXACTLY what black actors went through and eventually got over because of people fighting it.

  • So you sitting back and pretending that racial descrimination is not a real issue here because you simply view everyone as "all people" does not change the fact that other people DO believe race is important, and DO think white people sell more tickets than black, hispanic or Asian people. So please, do me a favor, stop watching previews of Airbender, and go read up on the history of racial descrimination in Hollywood and leave me alone.

  • @SimKoning wow you act like i never faced discrimination, when i was in 7th grade i wanted to be in the spring play so bad i practiced and practiced and focused myself on acting. But i lost every position to either drama nerds or pretty boys. I know the severity isn't the same but the feelings are. I don't want to like the movie so bad if the acting sucks i'll say something, if the voices (maybe aang) is very off I'll be set off

  • @BigBis1337

Sorry to intervene, but I couldn't help but tag along. Didn't you say that you were done arguing? Also, you may not be aware of it, but you exhibit color blindness - wiki it. It's actually nothing to be shunned at, since topics such as love are color blind emotions, but you should be aware that the effect of color blindness in a society that is not is essentially the equivalent of "sticking your head in the ground". It's an indication of your naivete.

  • @jmlew who told you that you could intervine isn't it unfair that it's now two against one so unless you find another person to argue on my side please no more comments, but about color blindless is that a complement, because i think that not looking at someones race as a first impression is a bad thing, so i wouldn't take that as being naive.

  • @BigBis1337 I say he can, because it's my video your commenting on. This isn't a debate forum and there are no special *rights* lol. I'll give you an example of his/her point. I don't believe in either the Christian or Muslim version of God, but that does not mean I should ignore religious descrimination because I think Allah does not exist. That is pretty much what you are doing with regards to race.

  • @BigBis1337

I truly believe that this man understands what he's talking about. Not only has he done his research about this film, but he's also embraced the lifestyle of another culture and is able to compare that to the "American" perspective. There are still so many out there that believe that "America" is synonymous with "White America" instead of embracing a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-racial "melting pot". Although the founding fathers were White, their message of unity is not.

  • @jmlew i am away of the melting pot of america in fact i'm a product of the pot i am a half black half white child so i understand the mixture of races, and when it comes to the founding fathers it was refered as all men are created equal but they meant this as white men being equal because if it was all races equal the racial tention would not of started because everyone that was racist would be demed unconstitutional and therefore unamerican.

  • @BigBis1337

You obviously don't comprehend what I'm telling you. You're only listening what you want to hear, very much like you want to see this movie so bad that you're blind to your own judgment. Good day.

  • @BigBis1337

If you don't think that the "racebending" of TLA is important, then I suggest you brush up on your current events. Have you heard about the Arizona elementary school mural and that sparked nationwide attention? Like TLA, the mural is a form of art that expresses the artist's imagination. The artist was told to depict the diversity of the school, so he painted it as such. What he didn't expect was...

I'll leave that for you to contemplate - watch:

    /watch?v=cmkz8YGW57Y

  • @jmlew I checked that out. I love it when people say, "I'm not racist! see, look, I have black friends!" and then they say something completely racist. I honestly think many people don't even know what racism is. It's sad to think that maybe the studios knows something I do not, that there are more people that are racist towards Asians in this country then there are Asian americans, so they simply see it as a way of making more money.

  • @SimKoning

Like Shyamalan, these artists had every right to portray their artistry any way they saw fit. Unlike the artists though, Shyamalan and Paramount are continuing an unethical, capitalistic trend of whitewashing murals in the movie business. I will not take it lying down and I'm grateful to see that others who care will not either.

  • @BigBis1337 Well, the kid they got to play sound nothing like him and he sucks at acting from what I can tell. The Chinese kid that knew wushu and looked like him did sound like him however... but he didn't exactly get the part, because M Night thinks Aang's race is "ambiguous" so he felt he could caste a white kid. But if you look at the posters in the show (like the play poster) in which they drew him more realistically (as a joke) he clearly has yellowish skin and epicanthic folds!

  • If it were possible I would fist-bump you through the internet. BRO FIST, even.

    You are fucking awesome!

  • Thank you for posting this. I know you'll probably get a lot of shit from different people telling you that you're being delusional and/or racist, but it means a lot to those of us who are sick of Hollywood essentially saying "We love your culture, your food, your clothing, your architecture and martial arts. We just don't like your people."

  • Good Show. Points clearly made.

I've made the same points regarding the martial arts and some "fans" claim that it does not matter.

It will be just like the travesty called Dragonball Evolution.

  • The Invisible Woman with Jessica Alba, The Kingpin in Daredevil, Calisto in Xmen 3, you could kind of count Nick Fury even though the Ultimate Nick Fury is black, the original one was white, and imdb just confirm that they casted a black actor to play a Norse god...a NORSE god. The whitest religion on earth will have a black god. Was that enough example I can happily go find more? Or was your question suppose to discredit my argument?

  • @AllPwrflSteve

Jessica Alba is European, although South European, rather than Nothern Europe of Susan Storm fame. I do prefer her as a brunette and didnot want her to be in that role. The same with Gemma ARterton in Prince of Persia. An English woman cast as a Princess of India?? Freida Pinto or Ashwarya Rai was not available? Even Claudia Lynx even though she is Persian descent.

  • @AllPwrflSteve

Kingpin was the bad guy, they would not have made Daredevil Black.

Heimdall should be white, but Hollywood diversity again, although they would not cast a black actor for Thor.

Only that could be non-European is Hogun The Grim. Looks very much the Mongol warrior.

What was wrong with Dania Ramirez as Callisto? Callisto was based in New York and there are Hispanics in New York.

  • so...your mad....because the directors didnt make an all asian cast. Thats rather racist...Your mad because all of them are white. we get it...however...all of you Racebenders have the same conclusions because you ALL PARROT EACH OTHER! ethnicity in a movie where ethnicity isnt stated nor relevent is just idiotic.Martial Arts doesnt always mean its Asian. There are Brazilian martial arts aswell as others.

  • Wow, Sim, your video really gives us hope!

  • This video was really nice to watch. I think there are too many people who are quick to dismiss such issues in the frivolity of summer films. But just because the movies and the summer movie-going culture are frivolous does not mean the messages they ultimately send are similarly so.
