@TrollingSince1991 - The temperature in low earth orbit ranges from +-250 F, and yet since 1965, astronauts have been out on spacewalks (for up to 9 hours!) under those conditions with nothing but their spacesuits for protection. Therefore if those temperatures are not a problem for astronauts out on spacewalks in low earth orbit thanks to their spacesuits, then why would it be a problem for astronauts on the moon?

Besides the unmanned flights, Apollo 7 and 9 tested the LM and CSM in Earth orbit and APollo 10 tsted both around the moon; it's LM even descending from lunar orbit for a full test including separation of the ascent stage.

Besides, lasers were bounced off the Apollo 11 reflector barely a week after APollo 11 returned to Earth. So they would somehow have to have built, launched and landed an unmanned spacecraft in secret to deliver said reflector. I don't exactly see how this would save any time compared to actually going with Apollo 11.

myth busters failed to mention that apollo 12 also went to the moon as did apollo 14 an 15, 16 an 17 were also on the moon, which could explain the flag and other devices placed their now, this still does not put to rest the very first moon landing hoax theory i give myth busters credit for their efforts but the hoax lives on.

@at987ta the hubble is not designed for that close shots only for deep space, minimum distance for a clear shot is actually pasted jupiter, the LRO probe that is orbiting the moon right now has photographed all the landing sites, even the Japanese probe as well
@at987ta Its the Hubble TELESCOPE, not microscope. Telescopes are built to focus on large objects trillions of miles away, not tiny objects. You cant ask a device to work within 1/100000000th of what it was built for only to then naively wonder why it didnt work.
However, the jeeps and LEM were photographed by Japanese satellites a couple years ago. Hoax idiots said they would accept those pics as proof, only to renege and whine when they finally saw them
@at987ta That wont be possible. Telescopes are meant to see LARGE objects, not small ones. There's a rule in the Focus Equation that says no telescope can focus on anything smaller than it is. But a telescope smaller than the LEM would be too small to see that far away. Satellites are the only way to do it.

@x4dow your confused. they landed one the side shown but the moon does rotate and we had 14 mins of no communication from them. its called the dark side of the moon because no matter what we will never see it until it rotates back. it also makes a great album name :p

It does rotate, but it rotates about its axis at the same rate it revolves around the Earth. The "dark side" isn't dark anymore than this side is. It just can't be seen because it always faces away from the Earth. It's "dark" as in unknown, not actually dark. The astronauts landed on the Earthward side of the Moon.
@JBG762 the moon does rotate. it takes 27.3 days for a full roatation on its axes and ironicly it takes 27.3 days to do a full rotation around the earth. so it always looks the same. dont believe me? look it up

I believe that scepticism should be promoted. There is scientific evidence that man has been on the moon. But I'm glad people were sceptical at first, It does seem all too perfect that it was 1969 before they landed, when they had nearly reached their decade limit. Now that there is valid scientific evidence it should put such theories to rest. Never just accept everything somebody tells you because people will lie.

@nerevars try to do photo of stars standing just right beneath the streetlamp with your camera and i'll tell you that you can never make that photo on earth because there is no single star on the photo.

They have bounced lasers of the Moon long before the Apollo, and how do you know what photon have hit what ? the beam spreads out several miles before hitting the Moon, which means you got to be lucky to anyone hit the reflector at all ? and then, the couple of photons ( if you are lucky ) there hit the reflector spreads out several miles before hitting back the laser cannon ?. You Moon landers are a bunch of gullible fools, easy for the Government to fool.
@kennjohnsen - They know it's the reflector because the protons received (i.e. light) has a particular wavelength (i.e. colour), and being a reflector, more protons will be reflected back compared to the surrounding area. If you left a reflector somewhere in the distance at night and shone a powerful torch in that direction, your reflector will stand out because it will reflect more light than the surrounding area. That's why reflective surfaces are useful for cyclists at night.
A few photons,,,,photons right....hit the reflector, an even much fewer hit back, according to those there are shooting the laser, they are not even sure if any ?
@kennjohnsen - Lets say they fire at the site hours and receive only a few hundred photons. They know photons from the reflector would be a certain colour, so if out of those few hundred photons, 50 are *exactly* the right colour and took *exactly* the same time to return, then they came from the same source, i.e. the reflector. Hence institutions all over the world use those reflectors to measure the moon's distance. They don't prove man was on the moon, but *they* are on the moon.
@kennjohnsen - That's difficult to know, because it's edited to keep it flowing and entertaining. If it were a documentary, they would have giving us much more information. Just the same, those reflectors are used all over the world, including reflectors on the USSR's Lunokhod rover(s) (smaller and not as good when in sunlight, hence most use the largest and most recent reflector left by Apollo 15). If the reflectors weren't there, scientists would have found out many years ago :)
@kennjohnsen - Yeah but docs are typically more serious & informative, whereas MythBusters is more about busting Myths in an entertaining way (hence all their experiments in so many shows). If I believed it was all a hoax and I was making a film, my main goal would be to recreate 1/6th gravity using 60s/70s technology to prove it could be done. Therefore it's interesting how no moon hoax film has ever performed experiments to support their claims!

It's over 3 years since that MBs episode, so where are all the moon hoax videos doing the same experimnets to 'unbust' the MBs results and therefore prove them wrong?

@frantastickid - ??? But if you acknowledge that man has been on the moon, then why not 1969? The first use of the reflector left by Apollo 11 was just 1 month later, in August 1969. The reflectors left by Apollo 14 and 15 were used shortly after those missions ended too. That said, the reflectors alone don't prove man was on the moon, but they are part of the overwhelming evidence that they did, and did so successfully 6 times :-)
I'll break it down. The first moon landing was in July 1969. I assume you know that already. But just a few weeks later, on 1st August, astronomers at the Lick Observatory fired a laser the landing site and detected protons from the reflector, proving the reflector was there! This has been done thousands of times ever since. So if as you claim the reflector proves man was on the moon, then it proves man was there in July 1969.

@kacha90 - Everyone who has measured the rate of fall of moon dust kicked up by astronauts and to greater heights by the wheels of the lunar rovers, have found it matches the moon's gravity, not the earth's. That's why NONE of the moon hoax films ever claims the dust falls too fast or too slow, despite the fact that they must have checked the rate of fall themselves. Also on earth, kicked up dust forms clouds as it interacts with the air, that NEVER happens in Apollo footage.

oh yea also the photo of the lunar module with the background then another photo with the lunar module not present but with the exact same background they didn't bust that myth neither.
Not saying the moon landing was definitely fake but they haven't addressed and busted every myth. There's probably still more than what I've mentioned.

See my post to him and watch the videos, including another documentary debunking the hoax claims :) Regarding the background, if you were somewhere with mountains in the distance, and took a photo of those mountains, then moved say 50 feet to the side and took another picture of the mountains, the foreground will be different, but the mountains will be the same!
Did a good job on everything but they didn't cover everything like the life threatening conditions of being on the moon with the radiation etc along with the cross-hairs behind the objects in the photos would of liked to of seen the explanation behind them too.
Also 1 thing I disagreed with them earlier was saying "NASA are so confident they let us come in and use their machines blah blah" is it that they're confident or is it that it helps convince more people of the moon landing?
I thought a big part of the conspiracy theory is that some photos showed objects in front of the embedded camera cross-hairs. This was part of the conspiracy footage they actually showed they were debunking. So why didn't they address this at all?

@greggh The cross-hairs are 0.1mm thick. They "look like they're behind objects" because of flaws in the photo printing process... The white ink of large objects flowed over the 0.1mm black line of the cross-hairs when the photos were developed. In some photos of the American flag, parts of one crosshair appear on the red stripes, but parts of the same crosshair are faded or invisible on the white stripes. There would have been no reason to "paste" white stripes onto the photo.

With the way the economy is today it will be quite some time before any country will be willing to set aside the funds necessary. However that isnt to say it won't ever happen again. Hopefully we will have someone return within a decade or two.

@NewShipWar - Correct, hence the reflectors alone don't prove man landed on the moon (USSR had reflectors on their Lunokhod rovers), but it's part of the evidence that supports the Apollo landings. Those reflectors (from Apollo 11, 14 & 15) had to be deposited on the moon during the time of the missions, so if NASA could successfully land unmanned drones on the moon in 1969-1972, then with the Saturn V, a rocket capable of lifting a payload that carries men, they can land men on the moon too. :)

@Renewal7 The trouble is it matters where you shoot , the beam when it hits the moon is only a few kilometres wide, and none of the Apollo reflector mission sites are nowhere close enough to the Lunokhod rovers. Not to mention that scientists have been shooting lasers at Apollo reflectors before Lunokhod 1 was even launched.
In my opinion, the biggest proof that we went to the moon is political. We were in the middle of the Cold War. The Soviet Union hated our guts. If they had suspected we faked it, They'd be all over it, everybody would know.

Yes it's true it could have been left there by machines, just like the USSR's Lunokhod rovers (which had reflectors too), but it's part of the evidence of man being on the moon. @MrButtcrap - But you act as if TV ONLY exists in the USA. What is stopping TV companies from all over the world doing the SAME experiments we see in MBs? The answer is nothing! MBs also explain their experiments in detail, hence it's all there for others to do to prove them right or wrong. Because, this episode Mythbusters worked with NASA( which is under Gov't control) , so, for me it was CLEARLY from the first seconds of this show that they will confirm the whole thing. @MrButtcrap It's not the lack of money, it's the lack of *real* interest. We have telescopes in orbit, so there's no need to go all the way to the moon. We can't yet build a settlement there, so why put scientists, civilians or military there. We know have a much better understanding, due to the experiments on the moon, about solar wind, radiation and a lot of other stuff. Why go back where we have already been?

So you think they just made it up? :-) It's thanks to the reflectors that lasers can be used to measure the distance of the moon to an accuracy of about a millimetre, and hence we now know today that the moon is moving away from earth at 3.8 cm per year. Reflectors were left by the Apollo missions and some of the USSR's Lunokhod rovers, so whilst it alone doesn't prove man was there, the reflectors ARE there and hence are part of the evidence of man landing on the moon.

@lpslostagain Every country with their own observatory has been shooting lasers at the reflectors for 40 years. We told everyone exactly where they were. So if there was any problem whatsoever, or if they didnt do exactly what we said they would do, we would have been raked over the coals by every other international astronomer 40 years ago.

@itachiitachi1946 - The location is irrelevent. MBs give EXACT details of their experiments, they then film them and we get to see the results, and so it's open for all others to do the same. If any moon hoax documentary maker thinks an experiment was faked, then they could do it themselves to prove it. But that would never happen because the makers of such films only 'talk the talk', they never 'walk the walk'. We can only talk, so say exactly which experiment of MB's was faked, and how. :-)

@TrollingSince1991 - The temperature in low earth orbit ranges from +-250 F, and yet since 1965, astronauts have been out on spacewalks (for up to 9 hours!) under those conditions with nothing but their spacesuits for protection. Therefore if those temperatures are not a problem for astronauts out on spacewalks in low earth orbit thanks to their spacesuits, then why would it be a problem for astronauts on the moon?

They could have waited.
But why would they need to to wait?
Besides the unmanned flights, Apollo 7 and 9 tested the LM and CSM in Earth orbit and APollo 10 tsted both around the moon; it's LM even descending from lunar orbit for a full test including separation of the ascent stage.
So why wait?

Besides, lasers were bounced off the Apollo 11 reflector barely a week after APollo 11 returned to Earth. So they would somehow have to have built, launched and landed an unmanned spacecraft in secret to deliver said reflector. I don't exactly see how this would save any time compared to actually going with Apollo 11.

@at987ta Its the Hubble TELESCOPE, not microscope. Telescopes are built to focus on large objects trillions of miles away, not tiny objects. You cant ask a device to work within 1/100000000th of what it was built for only to then naively wonder why it didnt work.
However, the jeeps and LEM were photographed by Japanese satellites a couple years ago. Hoax idiots said they would accept those pics as proof, only to renege and whine when they finally saw them

@at987ta That wont be possible. Telescopes are meant to see LARGE objects, not small ones. There's a rule in the Focus Equation that says no telescope can focus on anything smaller than it is. But a telescope smaller than the LEM would be too small to see that far away. Satellites are the only way to do it.

It does rotate, but it rotates about its axis at the same rate it revolves around the Earth. The "dark side" isn't dark anymore than this side is. It just can't be seen because it always faces away from the Earth. It's "dark" as in unknown, not actually dark. The astronauts landed on the Earthward side of the Moon.

But I'm glad people were sceptical at first, It does seem all too perfect that it was 1969 before they landed, when they had nearly reached their decade limit. They have bounced lasers of the Moon long before the Apollo, and how do you know what photon have hit what ? the beam spreads out several miles before hitting the Moon, which means you got to be lucky to anyone hit the reflector at all ? and then, the couple of photons ( if you are lucky ) there hit the reflector spreads out several miles before hitting back the laser cannon ?. @kennjohnsen - They know it's the reflector because the protons received (i.e. light) has a particular wavelength (i.e. colour), and being a reflector, more protons will be reflected back compared to the surrounding area. If you left a reflector somewhere in the distance at night and shone a powerful torch in that direction, your reflector will stand out because it will reflect more light than the surrounding area. That's why reflective surfaces are useful for cyclists at night.

@kennjohnsen - Lets say they fire at the site hours and receive only a few hundred photons. They know photons from the reflector would be a certain colour, so if out of those few hundred photons, 50 are *exactly* the right colour and took *exactly* the same time to return, then they came from the same source, i.e. the reflector. Hence institutions all over the world use those reflectors to measure the moon's distance. They don't prove man was on the moon, but *they* are on the moon.

@kennjohnsen - That's difficult to know, because it's edited to keep it flowing and entertaining. If it were a documentary, they would have giving us much more information. Just the same, those reflectors are used all over the world, including reflectors on the USSR's Lunokhod rover(s) (smaller and not as good when in sunlight, hence most use the largest and most recent reflector left by Apollo 15). If the reflectors weren't there, scientists would have found out many years ago :)

@frantastickid - ??? But if you acknowledge that man has been on the moon, then why not 1969? The first use of the reflector left by Apollo 11 was just 1 month later, in August 1969. The reflectors left by Apollo 14 and 15 were used shortly after those missions ended too. That said, the reflectors alone don't prove man was on the moon, but they are part of the overwhelming evidence that they did, and did so successfully 6 times :-)

I'll break it down. The first moon landing was in July 1969. I assume you know that already. But just a few weeks later, on 1st August, astronomers at the Lick Observatory fired a laser the landing site and detected protons from the reflector, proving the reflector was there! This has been done thousands of times ever since. So if as you claim the reflector proves man was on the moon, then it proves man was there in July 1969.

You got your physics wrong.
Sure, compared to Earth in an atmosphere, the dust falls fast.
But dust falls slow on Earth in air because of the air.
The moon lacks such air and will fall quite a bit faster.
All things in a given gravity field accelerate to ground at the same rate in a vacuum.
What you consider proof of a hoax is in fact evidence of just the opposite.
Speaking of evidence, what is your evidence that discovery channel equals NASA?

@kacha90 - Everyone who has measured the rate of fall of moon dust kicked up by astronauts and to greater heights by the wheels of the lunar rovers, have found it matches the moon's gravity, not the earth's. That's why NONE of the moon hoax films ever claims the dust falls too fast or too slow, despite the fact that they must have checked the rate of fall themselves. Also on earth, kicked up dust forms clouds as it interacts with the air, that NEVER happens in Apollo footage.

oh yea also the photo of the lunar module with the background then another photo with the lunar module not present but with the exact same background they didn't bust that myth neither.
Not saying the moon landing was definitely fake but they haven't addressed and busted every myth. There's probably still more than what I've mentioned.

See my post to him and watch the videos, including another documentary debunking the hoax claims :) Regarding the background, if you were somewhere with mountains in the distance, and took a photo of those mountains, then moved say 50 feet to the side and took another picture of the mountains, the foreground will be different, but the mountains will be the same!

Did a good job on everything but they didn't cover everything like the life threatening conditions of being on the moon with the radiation etc along with the cross-hairs behind the objects in the photos would of liked to of seen the explanation behind them too.
Also 1 thing I disagreed with them earlier was saying "NASA are so confident they let us come in and use their machines blah blah" is it that they're confident or is it that it helps convince more people of the moon landing?

I thought a big part of the conspiracy theory is that some photos showed objects in front of the embedded camera cross-hairs. This was part of the conspiracy footage they actually showed they were debunking. So why didn't they address this at all?

@greggh The cross-hairs are 0.1mm thick. They "look like they're behind objects" because of flaws in the photo printing process... The white ink of large objects flowed over the 0.1mm black line of the cross-hairs when the photos were developed. In some photos of the American flag, parts of one crosshair appear on the red stripes, but parts of the same crosshair are faded or invisible on the white stripes. There would have been no reason to "paste" white stripes onto the photo.

Then we made OTHER goals: 6 shuttles, 2 space stations, 12 mars rovers etc etc. You learn new things by DOING new things, not spinning your wheels repeating yourself for 40 years. Now we're going to land on an asteroid. If you think we've been stagnant since 1969 then you dont know one damn thing of what we've achieved in the last 4 decades

With the way the economy is today it will be quite some time before any country will be willing to set aside the funds necessary. However that isnt to say it won't ever happen again. Hopefully we will have someone return within a decade or two.

@NewShipWar - Correct, hence the reflectors alone don't prove man landed on the moon (USSR had reflectors on their Lunokhod rovers), but it's part of the evidence that supports the Apollo landings. Those reflectors (from Apollo 11, 14 & 15) had to be deposited on the moon during the time of the missions, so if NASA could successfully land unmanned drones on the moon in 1969-1972, then with the Saturn V, a rocket capable of lifting a payload that carries men, they can land men on the moon too. :)

@Renewal7 The trouble is it matters where you shoot , the beam when it hits the moon is only a few kilometres wide, and none of the Apollo reflector mission sites are nowhere close enough to the Lunokhod rovers. Not to mention that scientists have been shooting lasers at Apollo reflectors before Lunokhod 1 was even launched.

Yes it's true it could have been left there by machines, just like the USSR's Lunokhod rovers (which had reflectors too), but it's part of the evidence of man being on the moon. Remember, those reflectors where left there during Apollo 11, 14 and 15, therefore you have to acknowledge that the reflectors confirms that NASA landed *something* on the moon during those dates, and if they could have managed machines, then why not machines with men inside? :-)

@MrButtcrap - But you act as if TV ONLY exists in the USA. What is stopping TV companies from all over the world doing the SAME experiments we see in MBs? The answer is nothing! MBs also explain their experiments in detail, hence it's all there for others to do to prove them right or wrong. The problem I have with ALL moon hoax film makers is that they're all talk and no action, they make lots of claims but never back them up with demonstrations. @MrButtcrap It's not the lack of money, it's the lack of *real* interest. We have telescopes in orbit, so there's no need to go all the way to the moon. We can't yet build a settlement there, so why put scientists, civilians or military there. We know have a much better understanding, due to the experiments on the moon, about solar wind, radiation and a lot of other stuff. Why go back where we have already been?
When we can do a bunch of new stuff there, then we'll go.

So you think they just made it up? :-) It's thanks to the reflectors that lasers can be used to measure the distance of the moon to an accuracy of about a millimetre, and hence we now know today that the moon is moving away from earth at 3.8 cm per year. Reflectors were left by the Apollo missions and some of the USSR's Lunokhod rovers, so whilst it alone doesn't prove man was there, the reflectors ARE there and hence are part of the evidence of man landing on the moon.

So if there was any problem whatsoever, or if they didnt do exactly what we said they would do, we would have been raked over the coals by every other international astronomer 40 years ago.

@itachiitachi1946 - The location is irrelevent. MBs give EXACT details of their experiments, they then film them and we get to see the results, and so it's open for all others to do the same. If any moon hoax documentary maker thinks an experiment was faked, then they could do it themselves to prove it. But that would never happen because the makers of such films only 'talk the talk', they never 'walk the walk'. We can only talk, so say exactly which experiment of MB's was faked, and how. :-)
