Saakashvili is very comfortable with English, he is not reading his speach. I do not see why should he be translated from Georgian. It was terrible to listen Sarkozy with a Woman's voice. If Saakashvili was translated it would loose sincerity of the speech & his passion For his country would not show. He knows well what he is doing. When he promises revolution with roses, he delivers it.

Georgians know why he speaks in English & we approve it. We would be very angry if he addressed UN in Russian.

His speech is like poetry, if he had addressed the UN in Georgian with matched translation, the speech would loose some of the qualities that are present when he speaks. When translated from Georgian speaker can loose passion that is charismatic. When Russians speak it is OK to have them translated because it gets nicer, in original Russian Officials sound mean and off putting.

Да, грамотное оправдание. Только мне интересно то, что грузины, которые почти все знают русский язык, обиделись бы на Саакашвили если бы он выступил на русском, но не обижаются за его выступление на английском, который мало кто из грузин понимает. Парадокс!

Delivering the speech in Russian Would Not help the Georgian case one bit. What, Russian Government would take a pity on us and leave us alone?
