@23Lakes I have found this as well sometimes, and yes that is what I do. I have also thought maybe adding jet dry might work. Havent tried it yet though.
@chookphuker Try using any bar soap by itself before making your mix. If you have a reaction to it you may be able to take it back to the store or contact the manufacturer for some kind of refund. If you can't do that, you could see if you have any friends or family that can use it. Either way you'll save your time and won't have a full mix of something that you can't return or otherwise use.
OMG All the rude snippy coments. These R great ways to save $.And I make HM laundry soap and NEVER have seen any mold.I use it faster than it can grow.Besides,We do boil the water 1st so kills off any spores, please. My gosh people R so bossy w/their do's n don'ts now days.If you want to coment, then make your own vids if you can do a better job of saving us all $.Please do show us what you know that is so much better.
I think that the recipes are easy and we can find the ingredients in Canada. Not everyone has to like what someone posts as vids, but don't stop others from learning. The old saying goes " If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it". Just my opinion.
I agree with your comment about how this is a survivalist recipe. I made both the body wash and dish soap and it works great. I always have to pinch pennies anyway, so thankyou for sharing your recipe. When I worked I didn't think too much about it, but we are now down to one income so I stretch the dollars, use coupons and visit the cheap grocery stores exclusively. Again Thankyou
I don't believe the individual that called her a thief. Haven't you ever heard of semi homemade? It's still hers because she thought to put the ingredients together
You call this recipe. You buy ivory soap, moisturizes and shampoos. then you melt and mix them together and you called it your own recipe. You are a thief.
There's a difference between using Ivory soap to clean your body and using it to clean your dishes...if you want a cheap dishsoap, there's nothing cheaper than Octagon soap. I get it for 59 cents a bar, and it's specially formulated for dishes and the like...I wouldn't use this for dish soap. It would mold. You need washing soda and borax to make liquid detergents. And wouldn't you just use the bar soap for showering? Why would you go to all the trouble of making liquid body soap???
@sarahminty if you took a moment to read the ingredients of your store bought shampoo, hand soap, body wash and dish soap, you will see that they all share some common ingredients, some that are nearly impossible to pronounce, plus dyes and perfumes. If you have such a problem with using soap on your hair, stop washing with shampoo and start using some kind of clarifying oils/water instead...Witch-hazel perhaps? Oh wait, that's basically Sea Breeze the facial wash.
This is not a survivalist recipe, anyone can buy cheap soap at the dollar store. If people want to make real liquid soap learn to make bar soap first buy using "Hot Process" and "Cold Process". If people want to learn the right way read up online on how to make soap from lye and oils.
As someone who makes these types of products and others my concern is the water that is added. That is a breeding ground for mold and bacteria to grow because a proper preservative is NOT being used putting the user at risk. Sadly the internet is fill of unsafe recipes.
Any time water is added to a product a preservative needs to be used to prevent mold and bacteria from growing. Often it's not seen to the naked eye.
Oh my God! I love these tips, I am super extremely tight for money this month and next month. These will really help me stretch my cash more. Awesome tips girl!
I was making the body soap which you said to add 1/4 of moisterizer (which I used vaselline) I mayh have used to much of that. I will try it again and let you know.
@CanadianPatriot1973 If using Vaseline/Petroleum jelly, you may as well just use the soap straight in the shower and then use the V/PJ as an after moisturizer. It won't gunk up your mix of any recipe, and you will end up using a lot less of the Vaseline/Jelly. A little of that stuff goes a long way.
You may also be better off putting something like baby oil in your mix if you want the moisturizer in it, but again you won't have to add as much.
how much dish soap do you have to use out of the bottle to make the bubbles in the water? i tried to body soap but i had to use so much out of the bottle to get a lather, is that correct?
@sjohnson3501 there is almost no lather from these recipes, you have to remember, lather or bubbles are created from a chemical they add which stays on your skin, and is bad for you. So these items will not produce bubbles, just clean :)
You can get plenty of lather naturally by saponifing lye with the right oils. (coconut oil, palm kernel oil or castor oil to name a few.) They do not always have to come from chemicals. The reason this doesn't lather well is because it's watered down which also means it's not working as it should to clean because it's not being used as it's intended.
Cheaper doesn't mean better. Please see my note below about the water being added and mold & bacteria growing.
@CanadianPatriot1973 Just a side note-- lather is not just created from chemicals which are added to products.. all natural home made soaps which are super inexpensive to make can have natural additives like coconut oil which produces a wonderful lather and is light and moisturizing for your skin and not super expensive.. a 16 oz bottle runs about 4 dollars and you can use it in several batches of soap. Just a side note :)

"Real" soap that is left unscented really doesn't have a scent at all. I believe even Ivory adds fragrance to their soaps. Many products that are said to be unscented do have a fragrance added to cover the natural scent of the ingredients used. For some products they can have a distinct scent of their own without any added scent.
This stuff is hideous on the hair and scalp.....safer to use plain vinegar if you have noting else. That or get a job and buy a cheap bottle of shampoo.
Oh you can also use hair conditioner for Fabric Softener. I have used the recipe for that. Here is what the supplies it requires
3 cups of Vinager
2 cups of Hair Conditioner
6 cups of Water.
This is pretty simple, all you do is you mix the vinager water and conditioner together and put it in a fabric softener bottle if you have one or in an airtight container.
I'm going to try this .I really like making my own products . This one seems easy & economical .I wish I had all this info when my kids were home . Thanks for the video.
Yes, but can have a shorter life span due to the apple in the vinegar. In saying that, it will still last around a month or so. I am sure you will use it up by then
@CanadianPatriot1973 Vinegar will not help cut grease when added to soap. In fact, the soap and vinegar will reduce each other's grease cutting ability. You'll get better results if you leave the vinegar out.
Better yet, leave the water out, and just wash the dishes directly with the bar of soap or via a washcloth.
Add about an inch of water to the container, give a really good shake and let sit, if still hard shake again. Alternatively you can put in a pot, and add some water, heat it up until melted, re bottle, the soap you use may have less water content, thus leading to hardening. Hope that helps
Thank you very much :) I try and help. there will always be nay sayers...BUT they are usually people who will only purchase products that come in fancy bottles, and pay for the gloating rights of using something to wash their hair that has some losers name on it, lol :)
I think a person has to get past the final product, after it cools down. I strongly suggest adding food coloring (dark green or blue) it's very similar to phlegm. I would say, just use the bar soap for your hair. If you put the finished product in a hand pump container, it's not so gross.
I just about gagged trying to use it on my hair.
If you like bukkake facials, you'll probably really like the shampoo.
This sooo doesn't suck!!! If you slapped a FANCY label on it and put it in a FANCY BOTTLE; it would sell at the local boutique for $32.98 with a small sample of the hand lotion along with it. You go girl...thank you for trying to help all the struggling families out there. I think you should be commended [no bull-sh*t I promise]. I appreciate you sharing your innovations with us... :-)

awesome!! hey can you add chamomile tea to it? or how about lemon and sage for the shampoo mix? i hear those 2 are good for mens scalps but i wonder if it would spoil? maybe processed lemon juice?
In case no one has told you lately...you kick ass!!! Lovin' all how-to/do it yourself videos. Ivory soap feels like acid on my skin, don't know why, I wonder if adding moisturizer to it would alleviate this problem. Any thoughts? And what kind of moisturizer do you use? I sincerely appreciate what you are doing =)
Good video, but I confess I was disappointed. My great aunt made her own soap from meat and bones and I thought that is what would be here. The soap was in slabs she'd cut away at, and she only used it for cleaning her immaculate house. She was born on land which is now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base -- the government condemned my family's land a hundred years ago, but part of that was to prevent killer floods . . . for a greater good.
thanks for this video I tried the dishsoap recipe in the past without vinager and it separated and did not cut grease so I will try it this way . Ive been looking to give up my expensive Burts Bees shampoo for an easy DIY thanks a bunch this will save me a fortune and cut out the toxic junk too For those who get heat rash in the summer tea trea oil works miracles just put some in a spray bottle and dilute to your liking it also can cure a husbands stinky feet : )
Ok I'm confused...how do you boil the water? Will an electric stove work cuz that's what I have?
Also, I was thinking, instead of using one of those spongy shower things, couldn't I substitute an old dirty sock and get some laundry done at the same time?
This is dumb you're using pre-made products I thought it was homemade:(

She was born on land which is now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base -- the government condemned my family's land a hundred years ago, but part of that was to prevent killer floods . . . for a greater good.

Ok I'm confused...how do you boil the water? Will an electric stove work cuz that's what I have?
Also, I was thinking, instead of using one of those spongy shower things, couldn't I substitute an old dirty sock and get some laundry done at the same time?
