I was born and raised in Weatherford, Texas. There is a statue of Mary Martin in her Peter Pan costume outside the library and one of the elementaries is Mary Martin Elementary. So I grew up watching this version, and love it so much!

@cdiciurcio its not really that odd. peter pan was always played by a women. its only in recent modern times that hes been played by a male. when the play was written i dont think kids were allowed to act on stage and men were too big to be lifted on lines to fly, and their voices would be too deep to be a little boy. where as women were usually small so easier to lift and their voices could be more little boy like. this is just staying in context to how it was supposed to be.

Part of me wishes I was in theatre. I love the whole concept of portraying a character. 1960 was when this play-version was released. I've always loved Mary Martin. She's so much fun to watch play Peter and had a great singing voice. Although, they made Captain Hook's character really wimpy in this scene. I'm sorry. Man up Hook. He still creeps me out to this day.

its a musical! you're supposed to use your imagination for Christ's sake! besides which, back in 1960, they didn't have all the technological effects we have for shows on stage now. just use your imagination, it's a wonderful version of the play. the acting is great and the singing is great.
