  • must have been such a thrill for the residents of alderbourne in the 40's with all these young yanks in the village. Most people have only seen americans on the cinema

  • Thank you so much for uploading this video here! I wish I had a chance to meet these great people!

  • And geez: in this Age, Winters looks stronger here than I do now with 32...

  • Man, first of all this is amazing ! And second, for these old Lads comin back to this where they once shared this Horrible Experiences. Man !

  • Thank you very much for posting this. They truly were, a Band of Brothers - then, and now. THose who came back said those who didn't were the real heroes. IMHO they all were.

  • Great video. Thanks for posting it. Must have been quite an experience to meet these amazing gentlemen and re-live history.

  • Thanks for sharing, from the books and mini-series I feel like I know these men personally. Just out of interest, do the men refer to Winters as Major or by first name?

  • No he isn't, you've mis-read the opening titles.

  • so is harry welsh really in this video?

  • Whoa!! Thank you for sharing this piece of history with us!

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • For those who don't know - Major Dick Winters died on 2 January 2011.

From what I understand, he was admired and respected by his men.

RIP, Dick Winters. We owe so much to you and others like you, of all nationalities, who fought for our freedom in WWII.

  • thank you so much for posting this. I have a personal connection to the 101st and it breaks my heart that, the link is gone, and now that i'm older I appreciate it more. wish i would have listened more closely to those 'war stories'.

  • I wish i could meet Dick Winters

  • Historic footage! Thanks for sharing this!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! It's heartwarming to see footage of Major Winters from a time when his health was still quite good, and not yet stricken with parkinnson's disease. Rest in Peace, Major Winters. You'll always be remembered.

  • @fmfleming

I misspelled parkinson's disease in my original post...just wanted to correct myself.

  • Who could have ever imagined what fame and publicity these 506th Veterans were destine to receive after Ambrose had written and published the book he was then creating..........and the rest of course is history. Doesn't Mum look great on that film!

  • @B17FFlyingFortress I think the book was already done and dusted at this point. Ambrose was using the trip to research his D-Day book . Yes Mum does look good!

  • @YITKV you have actually met dick winters?

  • @loosekarrott Yes, that is me driving the jeep! Following on from this visit to the UK, I was invited to stay with Dick and his wife Ethel on their farm in Fredericksburg PA the following year. I also dropped in on them in Hershey in 1998 whilst passing through with my wife.

  • Fantastic footage Neil! I am so glad you had the opportunity to get their visit on film! Just amazing!

  • @loakjoe Thanks Tom, glad you like it. Its a great record to have.

  • @YITKV That place at 6:08 looks so very similar to where my grandad lived..
