I absolutely agree what Rohan 1053 has said. A great poet can leave an impressive legend when words are put into a flow, for all those thoughts and dreams one has!
Today's film industry is not more than a Meat Merchants Bazar, people are interested in your body measurements and not in your talents, Vulgarity is the higest standerd one can achieve. Its time of fast foods and low calibers!
A terrific melody from Ravi to enjoy; superb performane by Mahendra Kapoor; good video as well, Sunil Datt looks so natural as if its real, Mala Sinha, Ashok Kumar as well.
Sahir Ludhianvi was a great poet his works are unparalled but never got his due .. lines like " Aaj koi baat nahi phir bhi koi baat to hai , gair ka hoke bhi ye husn mere saath to hai , hai kis waqt mujhe kab ka gila yaad aaya ... mesmarising so deep in meaning .. what a poet , long live .. compare this with trash & vulgar of today .. how time changes often from good to bad, so sad....
saw this beautiful movie in ludhiana eng college alongwith my friends vinod and angrej. whenever i saw any song of this beautiful and romantic movie, i miss them.
Thought is generally referred in present. here the reference is to the old memories; hence the word 'remembered' is more appropriate than 'thought of'.
All Gumrah songs are wonderful in lyrics, composition and in singing. But this is the greatest of them all. Mahendra Kapoor at his best in putting the emotion and feelings in this immortal song. Makes me nostalgic about the times gone by!!
Sahir's lyrics and Mahinder Kapoor's voice, both are of super standards here, melding in so very beautifully. What comes off it is a true heart warming number. Thanks for upload. Its brilliant video.
@ascorpio1 Thanks! I am very poor with Urdu language. A lot of things do not make sense to me just because of this. Will learn sometime when possible.
@kprabha54 Thanks! So do you mean, the phrase "khayaal-e-dil-e-nashaad aya" means "...remembered my saddened heart..." and not "...thought of my saddened heart..." ?
@Vaibik nashaad means naazuk or soft-weak-tender. so khayal-e-dil-e-nashaad would mean "nazuk dil ka khayaal" or "the thought of my (once) weak-tender heart"
Brilliant!!!! Mahendra Kapoor's old songs are the very best of his career. His song from Sohini Mahiwaal - "Chand chhupa aur tare doobe raat gazab ki aayee" is a true classic. Unfortunately, his singing deteriorated as he progressed in his career.
the feelings one would experience when one sees his ex after a long time, especially someone who betrayed his trust. only sahir could express such feelings in words.
I simply hear no difference with Rafi's voice. Both are blessed with the same incredible godgiven voice. What a legend, both of them Moh Rafi and Mahendra Kapoor, God bless you.
simply incredible..tough to immulate..mahendra kapur was the closest to rafi's brilliance. He is even better than rafi in this song...what a song, what lyrics...
its a great song but he's not close to Rafi, overall Rafi has far too many great songs, no one is close to him.......that being said this song is comparable to Rafi's hits
Sahir no doubt was the ultimate shayer, he wrote from his own experiences with being in love. His language was simple yet heart wrenching. My friends say Kaifi Azmi was more powerful but I feel he is a bit more philosophical in his poetic expressions rather than incidental. On the whole, this is a classic song, I just love it.
Great song by the late lamented Mr Mahendra Kapoor. The movie, by the way was based on the real life love affair between Dilip Kumar (the greatest actor ever) and his first love Kamini Kaushal.
There is big difference between Rafi's voice and Mahendra Kapoor. This is Mahendra Kapoor, who passed away yesterday. May God rest his soul in peace. These souls never die. What a beautiful voice.
A terrific song full of meaning. Some songs are famous for their lyrics and this is one of them. Tears at your heart's strings. The lyrics is by the immortal Sahir set to great music by Ravi. Mahendra Kapoor's voice is soulful. The whole movie's storyline is summarized in this song.
I agree, this is Mahendra Kapoor. I love his voice. Mahendra Kapoor followed Rafi Sahib foot steps and Mahendra Kapoorji has a very similar voice characters of Rafi sahib and most confuse both. Long live Mahendraji.

Great song indeed.
Ashok Kumar and Mala: BEST actors that I've ever seen in non-speaking roles (meaning that they DO however say a LOT without actually SPEAKING).

Mala Sinha did play these roles of a flirt quite well. It appears that she was type cast for such roles from Pyaasa.
