this movie just showed how gossip overwhemingly triumphs over truth. from the very beginning, malena was judged merely by her looks and rumors spread like wildfire from insecure jealous broads and horny men. beauty truly was her curse, and at the end where she got beat up, i literally wanted to jump into the movie and save her and beat those other bitches up.

Actually, here's how I see it - Malena is treated so poorly not because she is an attractive woman (which she is, by the way) but because she is a woman living in a misogynistic, patriarchial society. Such a society not only views women (such as Malena) as mere sex objects, but also encourages women to think of themselves as such. This is why the other women mistreat her - because they see her as an object rather than a person.
