  • Wish those prices were relevant for Australia! Our dollar's worth more but we pay more than double.... not cool.

  • How do I find which cab matches up best with the Maz 18 NR head?

  • I wish I had a mysterious hand that magically changed the settings on my amp when needed

  • Sweet amp. This was recorded with the Dr Z Stang Ray and 2x12 Blues in the cabinet: youtube.com/watch?v=FRGBatDGi8A

  • däämit? just THAT sound what i ever wanted to have!

  • demo sounds good, but it seems every z amp ive played seems a bit harsh in the high end. anyone else have this problem?

  • i wish i had two grand laying around

  • 1:09 is the coolest lick 8 )

  • If you're not already, you guys ought to be paying Gearmandude. He's the only reason that I've ever heard of your amps. Now, I'm Jonesing for one.

  • I just bought a NR head and front it from time to time with a Electro Harmonix Holy Grail reverb. . the sound is just what I want. . really nice second and third order harmonics jumping out. I paid $900.0 for a perfectly clean like new head. I think I got a fairly good buy?

  • James Gang moment about 45 seconds in. Sounds absolutely amazing. Dr Z never fails to impress me.

  • wicked overdrive tones!!!

  • The prices are listed at the Dr.Z site. Info-> Pricing

  • does the NR version has an FX loop?

  • @YomiSlash

    yes

  • So how do you get one of those knob tweaker dudes?

  • Is this amp useable in a gig situation, or would you suggest getting the maz 38?

  • @joebrassmonkey It's surprisingly loud. I always compare it to a BF Bassman. If you want to run it hot and don't need metal get the 18, otherwise for loud and clean you'd be better off with the 38.

  • @joebrassmonkey Whats your gig situation man? The short time that i've had my Maz 18 NR, the band I play in has played 3-4 gigs with about 1000-1500 peeps and I've been asked to turn down the amp. Thankfully I have the Brake Lite SA to help me. I think you should be good.

PS...my normal amp settings are Volume 12:00 and MV about 1. It is a loud amp.

  • That sounds amazing, but you've gotta wonder with all that outboard gear in the back if they're using any of it to colour the sound.

  • @ZeppelinRules I've played one of these for about 5 years and I think this is a good representation of what it does. It's a great amp.

  • Wow- those P90s sound fantastic through the Maz

  • Awesome sound! Sooner or later I'll have to have one of these.

Does somebody know which pickup configuration was used on the yamaha?

  • Love this demo. No fat man who talk for 10 minutes, just a guy playing guitars. Thank you.

  • real sweet tone...

i do have a question though : is that just the amp head and playing out of a cab???? it just sorta looks like it may be a combo

i gotta get me one of those either way

  • This amp gave me a disease: "I-WANT-ITIS" ... cos now I want this baby!

  • Sounds like the amp has a solid-state overdrive built into the preamp-section of the amp.

  • sounded great, but a bit bright with single coils. can the cut knob help with that? i loved it with the buckers though! i think this amp really shines with p90s though.

my next amp will be a maz 18 non reverb in blonde with tone cut mod and brake lite! i love living close to fat sound!

  • thanks, gearmanndude!

  • I need a magic hand to change settings mid song.

sweet amp! never heard of this brand until recently . . .

  • what does he start to play at 1:09

  • this thing >>>>> sounds amazing when he cranks up the volume its just too insane!!!!! in a awesome WAY

  • This amps sounds amazing... The MAZ 18 NR or BAD CAT CUB II NR is my next amp. which would you buy & why?

  • The MAZ 18 in a heartbeat. In my opinion its Dr. Z's best amp. The Cub is a good one, but I think the MAZ is a notch up.

  • These sound even better in person, a shop in nashville has two used maz 18's one with verb in a 2x10 combo and one without verb in a 2x12 combo. I want one so bad...gah!

  • @zacharybroyles which store would that be? I'd like to check them out myself if they're still there.

  • Guitar center, they HAD two used Dr. Zs a couple weeks ago.

  • thomann don't offer DR Z amps

  • Here in Bulgaria there is no Dr. Z in the music stores :-( I couldn't try it live. I must risk to buy it online via thomann ot other store.

  • Are they just noodling or is that a song at the beginning... and which one

  • amazing amp! very possibly my next amp

  • I wish I could get one as well :-)

  • I think that guy got it on discount, it has clearly been damaged by Zoro!

  • @MrAhhGODZILLA zorro

  • that yamaha sounded badass through the Maz

  • And i won't play on it in my life :)

  • You've never played a Dr. Z amp in your life, have you?

  • The Dr. Z Best cab... Would it be difficult to carry in a car?

  • Hi Dr Zamps. Where could I buy one of these in Bangkok?

Email contact on your web page gets me nowhere.

  • Hello hello.

What mics were used in this recording??

    What cabinet & speaker?

    Thanks for the demo Doc!

  • Yeah was wondering the same thing about the cab.

  • i know this is i think like 1900 is are you only paying for the head with that??

  • Head is $1249

    1x12 or 2x10 combo is $1499

  • how much is the Z Best cab? i've been trying forever to find the price list, and no stores i go to carry the cabs. just the combos and the heads.

  • Z best is $779.

  • thats my guitar teacher on the right! (jeff nagle)

  • I probably like the in between drive sounds the best on this demo. Maybe just a little less aggressive would be more pleasing to my ears. This amp sounds like a beast though...in a good way. No wonder aliens abduct us seldomly...they're too afraid we might have one of these lying around! :P

  • if you want less aggressive try it with reverb, or a maz 38.

  • This amp is like sex on legs but with no legs, and instead of being sex it's an awesome amp.

  • @popomczowzow Best comment / review of an amp I have read... LOL...

  • @popomczowzow I think I just died from laughter.

  • I got a reverb model. Put this thing through a tube screamer...it's all over.

  • 0:50 !

  • your playing is awesome ! and the amp is too

  • Hey...I recognize that EJ Strat! ;-) Great demo' guys!

  • just crank it anyways. who cares about how loud it is.

  • lol I agree with rmweav11....blast it, who cares

  • Just get a Z Brake Lite attenuator and you'll be set.

  • is there anyway we can get some vids of the stangray? love the way it sounds on your site

  • dudes, that was sick......that amp is the holy grail of tone...where can I get one??

  • definitely too loud..

since u would have to crank it to like a volume of 6 or 7 to get a great sound

  • I have been searching for a intelligently designed EL-84 based, auto biasing amp in the 15-20 watt range, and the Dr. Z MAZ 18 seems like a sweet one. I like the red color in the combo version.

  • man go get one right now today, I swear you won't regret it

  • Great player + Great amp. What more could you ask for??

  • i like how this guy plays

  • which one has more gain? Carmen Ghia or MAZ 18? I love the Mazerati but 32 watts is too loud if you want to get the natural OD.

also, could you please post a demo on Remedy? please....

  • great amp... is this loud enough to gig with?

  • Plenty loud enough for gigs. You can always mic it for the large rooms.

  • I own two of these - they're quite loud. Believe it or not, you'll find yourself overpowering guys with higher wattage amps on a regular basis. Given that it's also the most pedal-friendly amp I've ever encountered, I couldn't recommend it enough!

  • couldn't agree more

  • how much clean headroom does it have?

    great demo by the way!

  • toothy little devil huh?

    cool amp.

  • I bought the maz 18 NR for the overdrive tones but i am happily surprised how great the clean sounds. Definitely need a z brake to get overdrive tones at reasonable volumes. Interestingly i think z brake works better with z amps versus say my mesa heartbreaker. By the way, the effect loop works great.

  • Prety sure that's Brent adjusting the controls. He's in several of the vids playing. He's the one with tatt's on his arms. Not sure who the other guy is, though...

  • i know u guys probably wont respond to this, but if u have the tabs at 00:45, it would be sweet

  • start with the tabs of "Funk 49" and work it out by ear from there

  • thanks man

  • actually, if that doesnt work just know hes basing the whole thing around g min (pentatonic)

  • Does anyone who's doing the demo?

  • If you look at the end of the Maz 38 demo, it says Jeff Nagel.

  • sounds great, the Maz 18 is the best low wattage amp ever IMO.

  • i thought z's were a straight clean amp. didnt know they had overdrive.

  • Awesome amp, awesome guitarist! Win-win!

  • Excellent demo guys--I'm an MAZ Jr. 1x12 w/reverb owner. I love the overdrive tones, but I can't even get close to that loud even live. I'm thinking an airbrake is in order! Thanks for the great amps!

  • you must be playing really small gigs then, I don't own one, but I think it's perfect for small gigs.
