Worst tape drives I ever dealt with were the 4mm drives inside IBM servers - always jammed, or chewed up the tape.

@evilunixuser1, you mean DDS (DAT) drives? Which ones did you use in particular? I'm satisfied with DDS-2, DDS-3, DDS-4 and I also have DDS-5 (DAT72). Maybe it also helps, in my case, that they're in cool environments and not used very frequently.

Our DLT II drive jammed 3 times last week :(
Quantum sucks at making tape drives.

After the DLT4000, they got better.
Quantum's early drives were not good. I had the same experience. :)
